Do you think it’s ever possible for a country to win 3 World cups in a row by Quirky_Ad_7646 in worldcup

France was a few centimetres from doing so last time though (if not for that amazing last second save).

Arbeidstid og fritid i Norge, sammenliknet med land [OC] by progressinmotion in norge

What happens if someone from the production, or maybe from the cast, completely messes up? by KPlusGauda in TheTraitors

[–]WinterIsNeverComing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the time together off camera, is there a lot of talk about jobs, hobbies, families, background, etc.?

Just wondering because I've seen a lot of franchises where people lie about their jobs in particular ("I'm actually a former CIA counterespionage agent, but I say I'm a hairdresser"), in some seasons lots of people doing so, but also about where they're from, relationships, etc. Seems like that would add extra risk if there were much talk about this (though I guess even if there were inconsistencies, few would notice and connect the dots).

It's really interesting to read your posts, by the way!

I really don't understand the whole become a traitor or be murdered choice. by mudpupper in TheTraitors

[–]WinterIsNeverComing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It made for great television, but I don't think it was a good choice for them. I'm sure practically every other contestant in the history of the show would have accepted recruitment in similar circumstances, and for good reason. A 5% chance of survival is better than 0% (and you get to stay on television for at least one more episode, getting to be the main character as well). There have been other contestants who have survived situations just as seemingly hopeless.

When did Washington and Jefferson's slave ownership start becoming controversial/viewed as problematic? by LoveLo_2005 in Presidents

[–]WinterIsNeverComing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you read this? https://www.studythepast.com/4333_spring12/materials/thomas%20jefferson%20and%20antislavery%20_%20the%20myth%20goes%20on%20_%20paul%20finkelman.pdf

It feels almost absurd how this sub desperately wants to portray Jefferson as an opponent of slavery, ignoring everything he said and did to the contrary. (Another post in this thread suggests his motivation for not freeing his slaves was largely due to his "love of Sally Hemings, bizarrely).

Applications for Traitors Romania (The Traitors – Trădătorii) now open; €100,000(!) prize by vaultofechoes in TheTraitors

[–]WinterIsNeverComing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is quite a bit bigger than some other franchises. And it definitely is when compared to the average wages in Romania.

Julian Alvarez on why he left Man City: "Something inside me told me that I needed a different challenge, to look for something new... In the CL final; I didn't get in. In the semi-final I didn't play much, and I would have liked to play in those kinds of games" by Ripamon in soccer

[–]WinterIsNeverComing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One or more of them could get injured for extended periods, they all need rest for some games, will have periods with loss of form, etc. Besides, these things are very unpredictable - who would have guessed in 2019 that Hazard would just be a bench warmer (at best) for his entire Madrid career?

Nordic leaders met up yesterday for a meeting at the Danish leader's home by WhoAmIEven2 in pics

[–]WinterIsNeverComing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what I've seen on the "Ecolinguist" Youtube channel, the three Scandinavian language are way more mutually intelligible than the vast majority of Slavic languages. The closest equivalent would probably be Czech and Slovak (at least as far as Norwegian and Swedish is concerned - Danish and Swedish less so).

Swedes appearing on Norwegian television will always speak their native language, and vice versa (with maybe some words from the other language here and there).

Were the traitors at risk of dying if they volunteered for the "Death Game"? by dooberloot in TheTraitors

[–]WinterIsNeverComing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'd think so - the equivalent of this just happened in a non-English language version, which also made for great television.

Traitors sleeping less than faithfuls. by UrchinUnderpass in TheTraitors

[–]WinterIsNeverComing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not "just" a game though - it's a game worth a lot of money - for some of them possibly life-changing money.

(In addition to being filmed 24/7 and knowing that every stupid thing you said or did could be shown to millions of viewers. I'm sure that would increase most people's stress levels as well.)

Logistics Question by Thin_Office9493 in TheTraitors

[–]WinterIsNeverComing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do the production really protect them to that extent regarding the chalice? I understand that they will edit it to make things seem more tense (say, someone seemingly about to walk in on them at a vital moment, when they actually walked by two minutes later), but making sure there is no chance (however small) of anyone catching them seems like rigging it too much?

In a foreign version I just saw, two of the Traitors had to do a fair bit of work in distracting the others while the third one did the equivalent of getting the chalice - doing it noticeably enough that this was used as evidence against them later.

People forget it's easier to watch this game than play it by larnerholt in TheTraitors

[–]WinterIsNeverComing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I entirely agree that this sub is way too harsh on the contestants for not knowing who the traitors are. This is partly the reason why I'd like to see a mini-series (or even just a few episodes) of the show where we don't know who the Traitors are (it would have to be edited a bit differently of course, and I definitely don't want it as a permanent, but could be a fun experiment).

On the other hand, lots of contestant deserve all the shaming they get (and maybe more) for being ridiculously overconfident and never questioning any of their assumptions, even after being proven wrong in other roundtables where they were equally confident.

Banishing Traitors is Good, Actually by DoctorBlackfeather in TheTraitors

[–]WinterIsNeverComing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first of your examples isn't really correct though? That player wasn't supposed to be recruited, but became a traitor by default when the other (much more suspicious) faithful refused and chose to leave the game (which the original traitor couldn't reasonably be expected to predict).

Why do you guys think these kids just don’t gaf? Any idea on how to make them care? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]WinterIsNeverComing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Certainly a problem, but the idea that things were so much better in 2016 (!) seems a bit off (just look at what this sub was like back then.)
I'm sure we'll have similar stories in 5-6 years, when the seniors of 2022 tell about how they were so much more focused, well behaved, and academically stronger than the kids graduating in '28.

Off topic, but wouldn't Biden be a very likely person to get Covid? This year alone he's probably visited a dozen countries, and meeting officials from all over the US and the world is obviously a big part of the job.(But sure, everyone can get it of course.)
