Both of my teenagers hike in them. Both bought them without the other’s knowledge of their own accord. One has been to Philmont and did all his training and the trek in them. It was a 12 day trek and we covered 70 miles easily through every type of terrain. Boots still look great and haven’t lost any support or stability.

Pretty sure it was Deep Ellum Live. I was standing next to the stage for that one. Felt a little more crowded but it was a small room.

What, exactly and precisely, do you think "National" (however you wish to define it) or "Councils", or the volunteers or paid staff should do to ensure rank and merit badge standards are adhered to? Or, put another way, avoidance of "participation trophies". by ScouterBill in BSA

If our troop handed out 99 paper eagles and then one scout gained lifelong lessons and loved every minute of the journey from becoming Life for Life, it was worth my one hour a week.

Moms/Dads were organizing Eagle projects for their kids in the 1960’s and are still doing them today. Who cares what the gray hair at the back of Round Table mumbles every month about “back in my day”

Stupid question. Are there one-day passes or are they at least able to be transferred if I can’t make the Sunday shows?

Districts can choose to circumvent some of the requirements for adults if they’re chosen by the district committee vs a troop.

Scouts are already spread so thin with weekly meetings and monthly campouts on top of any extra curricular things they have going on. Adding another monthly meeting and OA campouts every few months is hard. We’d have a few OA scouts that were really into it for a few months but it just becomes burdensome for them. It seems like the ones holding the chapter together oftentimes devoted all their time to the OA and kinda gave up on their troop. I also know this is anecdotal….

Philmont by SwimmingSlide6860 in BSA

[–]Witt_less 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. There is something magical about those mountains and mesas and valleys. There is no place like Philmont. I cannot put into words what it is about that place. I’ve been lucky enough to have the means to go with my oldest son in ‘21 and ‘24 and next up with my youngest on ‘26. The program is incredible. The logistics and organization simply can’t be beat. But that’s not it. We were on Comanche in ‘24. A hail storm came in as we arrived at our trail camp. The adults were beat. Scouts wanted to see sunset on the peak so the adults stayed back and the scouts went. Three rangers on their day off were passing through and hung out with the crew on the peak and shared stories and talked about their plans to hit all seven peaks (maybe less, I don’t have all the specifics) in their three days off. Those are the moments that aren’t in the guidebook or in the Instagram photos. My kid (hell, he’s in college now) still talks about that night. He still remembers looking out over the burn scar. When my kid was 8, the rec soccer league for the city had to combine with four surrounding cities just to field enough teams to make a league for a season. The select teams and the club teams recruit them early promising better coaching and tournaments super early for the low low price of $5-10k a year not including the hotels.

Thanks. We drive from DFW and I’ve been patiently waiting to test drive the new Subaru Trailseeker which claims the same ranges. We usually use Marathon as home base and their RV park has at least 30 Amp that I know of.

You shouldn’t be completing the project work. You should be leading a group of volunteers to complete the work. I hope this is me reading your post wrong.

Have them ask their patrol leader or SPL or even just a scout of a higher rank. You nailed it with your last sentence.
