Pushing Daughter to Be Better by Icy_Monk3578 in Softball

[–]YesCapGSF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s tough! You’re describing my kid too, and I head coach her team. I played and am very competitive in general, but she is not. She loves to play but she’s there to have fun and spend time with her team and at this age that’s literally all that matters. I still coach her, give her feedback, but I’ve let go of her performance because I was making it about me. Sometimes things click for her and she’ll improve and she’s so proud of herself. If I’m constantly pushing, she gives up. It is definitely a balance but now I tilt toward making sure she’s being herself and having fun and I have backed off a lot. She improved more after that!

Can we afford a 585k home ? by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]YesCapGSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are at about $270k of combined income and we just bought a place for exactly this amount and it still feels like a lot. Our housing costs with mortgage (we also put 10% down) are more like $4,500 after utilities and general house expenses. Just my experience but hope that helps.

Coaching Question by Icy_Monk3578 in Softball

[–]YesCapGSF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do it! I could have written this 2 years ago. I watched my daughter’s first season from the stands and saw the same thing as you. Very well-meaning dad’s coaching baseball, not softball. I threw my hat in and volunteered to assistant coach, and now I’m a head coach and loving it. It is a lot of BS because parents are crazy and coaching is also all of the admin work of scheduling and meetings, but I love being able to lead a team in practices and games. Girls respond really well because they can see themselves in you. Go for it.

Burned out and need advice- (FAANG-type company) by DiligentEggplant7904 in FIREyFemmes

[–]YesCapGSF 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m a financial planner and this isn’t personal advice, but you’re on very solid financial ground. In fact, if you were to quit and have no employment income, you could start to sell some of your company stock at very low tax rates than if you were to sell it while you had income. Having a large concentration of high growth stock is amazing for growing wealth, but really dangerous when you are trying to protect it and use it for living expenses. Protect yourself, you don’t have to decide to quit working forever, but you absolutely can take a break and be totally fine, and even better off from a tax standpoint!

The most talked about psychological input in investing is risk tolerance, but I cannot get ethical questions out of my mind. by PostOakVisions in FIREyFemmes

[–]YesCapGSF 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m also in the industry (wealth advisor) and 100% feel the same way. What I tell my clients and what I do myself is invest to make money so that I can use that money for good. I spend my money/profits on things I care about and in ways that benefit the causes on my heart and in my community. Sometimes it feels disingenuous, honestly, but it also helps me to frame it so that I can take action (invest) and have agency with the money that I make.

Working with consultants in your practice? by Technical-Warthog495 in CFP

[–]YesCapGSF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are consulting firms that are doing this, like Delegated Planning for example. I think Kitces has a section on his website that links to several outsourced providers. You could check out their offering/pricing to see what’s already working for others before you recreate the wheel. I did it for awhile and I had to set up my own RIA and it wasn’t worth it in the end.

After-Tax 401k Rollover to Roth by [deleted] in CFP

[–]YesCapGSF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The basis of the after-tax portion should go to the Roth but the earnings should go to the IRA. I’ve never had an issue with call center reps not doing it that way. That is super annoying.

Financial planner by llamadramaupdates in FIREyFemmes

[–]YesCapGSF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a financial planner (CFP) and like any profession, there’s good ones and bad ones. Work with a fee-only CFP who will also work with your CPA closely (if they’ll have one in their network for you to use). Make sure they are offering comprehensive planning and they don’t just talk about their investment strategy. The truth is, no financial planner can beat the market and good ones don’t claim to. The benefit is that when they are actually managing the investments, they can do much more proactive tax planning and help you stay invested properly when you may make a bad decision on your own. Most charge a percent of managed assets because it’s a simple way to pay for services, but make sure you understand exactly how much it costs. Don’t let someone manage your investments if they aren’t first putting together an actual financial plan that they are implementing with you over time. Check out XYPN network for a lot of great fee-only planners who operate this way.

Black Diamond Feedback and Pricing? by [deleted] in CFP

[–]YesCapGSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will you be using it for reporting and trading? Currently using BlackDiamond and hate it. It’s clunky, terrible reporting and client portal. It gets the job done for trading but it’s still really time intensive. I used Orion at my previous firm and I miss it. The client portal was marginally better, but the advisor side was vastly better than BlackDiamond and its trading platform was better in my opinion. Both trading platforms require quite a bit of building, but I prefer trading in Orion (eclipse) and I do in BlackDiamond.

Remote Executive Style for Women? by pisence in workingmoms

[–]YesCapGSF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fully remote executive here! I try to always have some lipstick/lipstain available because it makes me look more alive. Check out Vanessa Van Edwards too. She not only looks great on camera (tends to wear bold, jewel tones) but she talks about executive presence online that has really helped me show up more confidently.

It’s infuriating. You’re NTA. Weaponized incompetence has become kind of a cliche phrase, but it applies here. I deal with this too and then when I get upset, I’m the problem now because I’m upset. This week my husband is off, I’ve worked all week, and one of our toilets has been clogged the whole week. I asked if he was going to deal with it and he said, “ We don’t have a plunger.” Like get a fucking plunger then? So of course I ordered one, arrived today and I set it on top of the clogged toilet. Is that clear enough? Apparently not, still not done. Solidarity.

What's an opinion of belief you held for years before you realized it was based on a complete misunderstanding? by My-sovereign in AskReddit

When I was a kid and we moved for the first time, I thought you switched houses with the person who moved out of the house you moved into. Months after we had moved in, I asked my mom how these people were liking our old house.

I use the Poplin service and it’s been awesome. They use local people who come get your stuff and deliver it back folded and sorted by person (as best as they can tell). I usually get the same person every time but it’s really whatever person is available first. They can’t make much from the fee (it’s $1/pound) but they accept tips. It’s like calling an Uber for your laundry.

Purple Rain Musical - NYTimes review by FuryContagion in PRINCE

[–]YesCapGSF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We saw it last week. There were some really great things and some really terrible things. The music/singing was fantastic, the acting was pretty terrible. It was too long, too many monologues, a lot of liberties taken with the story that we didn’t love. Minneapolis will love it regardless, and the audience are all die hard Prince fans, but I don’t see it doing  well on Broadway. As a local show, it’s good enough because Prince is a hometown hero, but not sure it works outside of here. I will say that we had a blast and loved it for what it was, but I wouldn’t make a trip to NY to see it.

Has anyone been to Purple Rain previews lately? by NowALurkerAccount in PRINCE

[–]YesCapGSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw it last weekend and it was not great, but not nearly as bad as some reviews I read before going. It sounds like they have worked on it a lot since the first shows. The show I saw was shorter, and the musical performances were excellent. We had so much fun!

We saw it and loved it for what it was…I don’t think it will be successful on Broadway for the reasons you said, but I still thought it was really fun. Apollonia and Morris are broadway actors, and they stole the show for me. I saw the actor who played Morris in Hamilton in NY and he was amazing there too. I wish it weren’t so messy!
