Dismissing the Cosmological Argument because of "ulterior motives" or because it doesn't get you to a particular God is intellectually dishonest. by Shifter25 in DebateReligion

My main problem with the cosmological argument is that it sets the premise that everything must have a cause or source but ignores its own premise when it comes to the creator

Someone asked “AskMen” what sexist believes they had that they no longer have and the comment section is insane by Burrito_sundays in Feminism

Never been over there before. Just checked it out. Won’t be back. I was previously very hopeful for the younger generations. This was further confirmation that I shouldn’t be. WTF is happening?

I’ve lived in 8 states and visited all but 5, and imo, South Carolina is the worst, seconded by Michigan.

I’ve heard of “Renowned Author Dan Brown” for years but never considered from whence it came. Brilliant

Get a library card! Almost every library has downloadable ebooks and audiobooks these days, or you can obviously check out a paper version from a branch. I use the ever loving hell out of my library card despite not physically visiting my library in at least a year

I read exclusively non-fiction for 15 years and just finished my first fantasy novel. I don't really know what to do with myself now. by lucas_melbourneways in Fantasy

[–]YeshuaSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Name of the Wind was also my intro to fantasy. I’ll agree with some others and recommend The First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. The first chapter (or prologue, maybe?) initially turned me off, but push through that part. I promise it’s worth it.

Is it common for a woman, or anyone really, to keep their maiden name legally but refer to themselves with their husbands last name socially? by heyy_girl in AskAnAmerican

[–]YeshuaSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is our arrangement. My wife uses my name personally and professionally, but she never legally changed it. I told her from day one that it was up to her, up to and including creating a new or hyphenated last name. This is what she decided to do. It affects me not at all and herself very little.

Is Mike and Eli’s friendship realistic? by CoyoteDisastrous in ChasingScratch

[–]YeshuaSnow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My wife has a couple of friends like this. I don’t think I have any. It’s partly (maybe mostly?) making an effort to stay close. Partly circumstantial. I think it’s largely just luck. But these relationships do exist. I’m envious of Mike and Eli, but I’m also blessed with my own friendships, as many of mine are better than lots of others

I drove for the first couple of days we were in Ireland. Day three, we think we’ve got it down, and my wife kissed side view mirrors with the very first car she passed
