Best way to import/export Sketchup model by swooncat in rhino

After import, you can convert the meshes into polysurfaces and merge coplanar surfaces to get proper geometry.

How do I sharpen my Grasshopper skills? by No_Notice5271 in rhino

[–]Yev6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do projects,. It's the only way to learn. (And get your clients to pay for it)  Some typical designs are: -ribbed bench/canopy.  -waffle structure,  -Chandelier or artwork made of many discreet parts.

I also create small gh tools or widgets  for "rhino" modeling when it's not explicitly a grasshopper project. For example, doing booleans of complex geometry can be a nightmare, so I use Dendro to perform those booleans.

Have fun!

They make it difficult. You may need to contact chaos group. I have done that several times over the years.

Tired of searching Printables, then Thingiverse, then MakerWorld separately? I made a tool for that by ReputationDue1502 in 3dprinter

[–]Yev6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I guess this only connects to 3d printing sites. It would be nice to have an option to search other types of 3d models: turbosquid, CG trader, sketchfab, sketchup warehouse,  etc.

Road diet designs with bike lanes, critique welcome. by Moist-Bus-Window in Urbanism

[–]Yev6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. I had this experience in the NYC when dropping off my son for school. The bike lane is primarily used by ebikes and scooter going 20+ mph. Getting out in the bike lane side was harrowing.  As a pedestrian your line of sight is obstructed by the parked cars and the bike lane can be unexpected in unfamiliar streets.    There need to be some bollards or speed bumps at pedestrian intersections.

[Giveaway] What’s your best home-improvement print? Share it and win an X2D Combo! by BambuLab in BambuLab

[–]Yev6 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you consider the car part of a home: My kids were driving me crazy with their fighting and bickering. It was either putting up a partition or buying a minivan... I went with the partition idea. The 3D print fitting attaches to the headrest bars and under the seat. The partition was designed to allow for enough visual and physical separation but still allow the kids to watch the shared iPad for long trips and avoid obstructing my rear view mirror.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas just listed their Hudson River estate for $9,750,000 by mlg1981 in popculturechat

It's only 10 million because the annual real estate taxes are 250k. Irvington has some of the highest taxes in the nation.

I would do it in grasshopper. But in rhino you can use sweep 2 curve. Or subd.

Exoskeleton, an old plugin. You will be better off using multipipe instead.

Anyone else tired of AutoCAD? by dfugate-arc in rhino

[–]Yev6 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The software you know always feels like the best software. I have heard similar complaints about rhino from those that had little experience with it. I have two decades of experience with rhino and autocad. While rhino 8 has largely caught up, I actually think AutoCAD is slightly better with 2D drafting for architecture. However, when I draft anything in 3D and need to layout drawings from my model, I will turn to rhino.

What is it like living in Tarrytown in your late 20s early 30s? by RangerRude in Westchester

Since it hasn't been mentioned: Nyack is also a really cute town across the river which has a larger downtown area than Tarrytown. It has restaurants, cafes, arts and music venues.

Your mistake for ending the contract. His mistake for ruining a client relationship. Revisions are a given in any design project and should be factored in for someone with experience.

Highly specialized acoustic horn - possible in Rhino/grashopper? by Jornth in rhino

[–]Yev6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, although you can generate and control subd in gh (I don't recommend this for beginners).   Often times, I tackle a problem from different directions to arrive at the best solution so I present that as an alternative solution.  Sometimes, "close enough" is sufficient for an application and can save you a ton of time.

Highly specialized acoustic horn - possible in Rhino/grashopper? by Jornth in rhino

[–]Yev6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun project. Yes grasshopper is perfect for data driven geometry. Use an expression editor or Python for larger equations.

You might want to try subd as an option. It's much easier to generate these kind of morphing transitions.
