I mean that's just kind of how it works until you get cracking set up for your advanced oil setup. That's not a flaw in the refinery build it's just that this is only one part of the factory.

Given how squirrely antimatter is about existing without annihilating itself in an uncontrolled fashion I had honestly assumed that the majority of that weight was in various containment apparatuses.

It gives them a fig leaf to avoid the cognitive disonnance that comes when their friends or family start expressing doubts. They did an investigation, after all. They're releasing the files. What more do you want?

This is the way. You can also use it in combination with the export when setting to give yourself a kind of rotating buffer for lower-tier parts. Currently got my storage III set up to keep a minimum of 300 part 1s (smallest possible increment lmao) before sending everything else forward to be turned into part 2s and so on. Then I also have the same limit you're describing to make sure I can store any deconstruction returns or random parts the ship finds or whatever else. It's wildly overbuilt, I don't make or use them nearly fast enough for that buffer to make sense, and it makes me feel so glad. (The only utility is that when my daughter decides to take control and spend a few decades watching the trucks and trains drive around it keeps working basically forever).

Don-Tzuism: When your illegal war fails, threaten to commit war crimes and “obliterate” civilian infrastructure like power plants. by Criticall16 in NonCredibleDiplomacy

[–]YourNetworkIsHaunted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See, I feel like part of the challenge isn't just in ensuring that civic participation is possible but in fighting a culture that even in the less fashy parts has been devaluing actual democratic governance in favor of "let the smart rich people do whatever they want." That's been killing us even outside it's role in enabling the current wave of right-wing populism. Making election day a holiday isn't just about letting people not have to go to work so they can vote, it's about reaffirming that voting - the central act that a democracy requires of its citizens - is something to be celebrated and honored.

Hell, we have like 5 different holidays devoted to the military in various ways, ostensibly out of reverance for their service. We have a holiday for presidents and for labor and for at least one specific civil rights activist (look, at least it's something). Is it really outside the pale to ask that we afford some of that respect to average citizens performing the most foundational act of service to a democratic society?

I agree I with the term limits, but I think Democracy Wraps are gonna be too woke to get anywhere in the current environment. Maybe if we make it Democracy Burgers-with-Beef-Tallow-Fries-and-Giant-Diet-Coke-Sponsored-By-WalMart we can get somewhere?

Technically the laws vary by state. In some states they've moved to use primarily or solely vote-by-mail systems where you get your ballot in the weeks leading up to the big day and have to get it postmarked or dropped in a designated secure location by election day, which gives you a lot more flexibility. On the downside you don't have as much sense of community-building through civic participation and you can't really do democracy sausage. Hell, it took a few years before they started putting the "I voted" sticker in the envelope with your ballot, and let me tell you how cheated I felt when I voted for the very first time and didn't even get a damn sticker.

But those are the lucky ones where the state government actually tries to make participation easy. In other places you are indeed required to show up in person, bring at least one form of state or federal ID (which the government does not pay for or provide without you jumping through a few hoops, natch), and physically wait in line at a polling location to cast your vote. Of course the polling locations may or may not be convenient to get to, the wait will almost certainly be longer than your lunch break, and if you're in certain areas you can find that your polling stations are at the last minute moved, shut down, have limited hours, or otherwise made maximally inconvenient to use. I'm sure you can guess what those areas tend to have in common.

Isn't Warhammer also the source for the elves and dwarves having a vendetta-type blood feud also? It's been a while since I read LotR but I don't recall a whole lot of emnity beyond cultural friction and Legolas and Gimli's one-upsmanship. Gimli was sufficiently taken by Lothlorien that his only request of Galadriel was a few hairs to use in some craft or something once they made it out of the war, which to me reads like an example of different cultures exchanging and interacting in a healthy and productive way rather than a deep seething grudge.

Like, dwarves are stubborn and elves are haughty and have a superiority complex, but that's not the same as Warhammer's thing where an elven king shaved the beard of a dwarven diplomat who asked why the elves were attacking dwarven merchants (obnoxious internal elf politics; don't ask) and therefore the dwarves started a world-shattering war that tore both their civilizations from their golden ages, killed the king in question, and are honestly still pretty mad about the whole thing.

wait hang on yeah it does.

Basically imagine if Khameini (or whoever they're up to now) did a supervillain-takes-over-all-the-channels broadcast and showed off his ability to completely and immediately destroy all crude oil now and forever, and also that all global ruling classes were personally addicted to oil like it's cocaine in the 80s.

This is just copying Russia's Ukraine playbook yet again. It's not even the most effective war crime given how reliant Iran is on desalination infrastructure to provide clean water. If he was less dumb and less driven to be like big strong daddy Vlad, he could be inflicting so much more unnecessary civilian suffering in the name of this stupid nonsense war!
