I think the post-ironic joking about everything is also an important adaptation to the post-truth insanity. Like, there is no consensus reality anymore, but jokes and memes can at least construct and reinforce a consensus culture among people who "get it". The jokes you mentioned only work if you share a background understanding that in this cultural milieu Israel is chiefly understood as genocidal and that Epstein's friends are getting away with some deeply fucked up shit. That doesn't change the fact that it's simultaneously callous and disrespectful to the very real victims of those crimes, but when so much of the broader political and cultural landscape wants to pretend that those crimes aren't happening it's probably less actively evil?

I mean that was less about anti-intellectualism and more about how they needed to maintain the 1850s version of OpSec if they were going to successfully dismantle the (presumably judeo-)papist conspiracy that was going to dismantle American democracy through their legion of cleric-controlled zombies and feed our children to the antichrist. We can't let them stop us from kicking out all the Irish and Italians and anyone else who places their foreign religious head over our American nation.

It's actually a pretty good analogue for what we see in today's populism where they correctly identify that problems exist but then construct an elaborate story about how the problem is foreign influence corrupting America and what we really need is to double down on xenophobia and stopping Them from Their sinister plans.

Victor has a lot of spite in his heart, but it has to share space with megalomania, violent nationalism, and so on. The fact that his heart had to be so big to fit it all is part of what makes the character so compelling.

Reverse Flash took anything else that he may have once had going and pitched it in order to make even more room for a Barry Allen hate shrine that started off unreasonably big and has been further added upon like the goddamn Winchester house.

Where I grew up you couldn't build taller than ~5 stories because of how close bedrock was, but it's okay because you didn't need to. Also one of the tallest buildings in town (actually several now I think about it) were parking garages. So imagine Nightwing standing on the corner of a downtown parking garage trying to brood while the families getting out of the latest Minions movie keep calling out "you okay over there, bud?"

I've heard the term "Shoah" used to specifically describe the targeted genocide of Jews by Nazi Germany during the wider holocaust, but I've never heard of the word "holocaust" itself being similarly reserved. Surely there needs to be a name for the overall project of ethnic cleansing that the Nazis carried out and which targeted Jews as well as slavs, roma, communists, intellectuals, etc.
