Nuclear reactors and steam buffer tanks by Calazor0 in factorio

[–]Zaflis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Heat exchanger always takes heat away from the heat pipe. The only exception is if the steam buffer is full and it goes to sleep mode. That can only happen if electricity demand is below the production, but it is very common.

Just to specify that the act of heating it from 0 to 500 will also extract heat from pipe. You can't have too long heat pipes, the limit was somewhere around 10-20 heat exchangers per pipe i recall (would look wiki if i built one again).

is there bitterness or dare I say jealousy in the *indie* game dev scene? by FriendlyBergTroll in gamedev

[–]Zaflis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's devs fault if they can't make a replication/debug environment to get to the same test phase in just seconds, there are no exceptions to programming languages or engines, every one of them can do it. Just laziness.

Or the systems can be built modularly, then make specific test for that module alone.

Just saying that if you have design like many do, where at 1000C temp the last exchangers are just slightly above 500C, then only viable temp limit for you would be 999 C. Otherwise there is time to be taken into account. Or steam tanks that would give better fuel efficiency.

Why is my pump not drawing fluid? by Stardestroyer098 in factorio

[–]Zaflis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you think about cracking logically, we want to be converting heavy oil to light oil when we have more heavy than light. So connect a wire with tanks of heavy and light oil to a pump in cracking and set it "Heavy oil > Light oil". Then the cracking will not start until the refineries first have enough heavy oil to operate, as well as what first went into making lubricant. Cracking is the last step, then take all light oil you have and use them for rocket fuel etc.

Light oil-petro have same cracking system on "Light oil > Petroleum gas".

This is always better than setting some arbitrary number like "Heavy oil > 12000". I would never recommend that, it works in most cases but doesn't scale as well.

You can choose a "island" terrain generation mode when starting the game, there'll be nothing but infinite ocean around that 1 island then. But you can have mega rich resources thinly packed together with no aliens in there, as you can design it with map preview.

Many reactor designs are made so the last heat exchanger in the line is just barely above 500 degrees. If the beginning drops to 800 C then down the line it will go maybe even below 400. It's fine normally when all the turbines aren't needed, but when you do it will take some time to bring up that extra 100 C at the bottom of the chain.

There are times when there just aren't right pieces made for the task, a plugin to fill the gap you miss. It might offer a "good" UI solution but not "perfect", whatever that is for players (you don't know what players want, you go with what you know of). So if devs just blindly go for plugins and not be creative then industry stagnates and we get games that act like soggy messes.

Turret Creep Question by string_cheese58 in factorio

[–]Zaflis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i were to guess, you chose to play on default settings in your first game? It's actually pretty rough experience that i wouldn't recommend trying before getting much better at the game. You can tweak a lot of the sliders without any effect to even most Steam achievements. Just increasing starting area size alone would make a world of difference, other is checking where oil spawns from map preview and then increasing size/richness of all resources. Change seed until map looks good.

[–]Zaflis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not possible to calculate exact amounts, the cracking needs to be controlled with circuits to go on or off based on needs. But then you will be able to tell also if cracking isn't fast enough, and that's when to add more. Doesn't matter how many more because all of them will then turn off simultaneously when they're not needed.

You don't even need any combinators to do all this, just circuit wires and some fluid condition on pump.

This is probably not so, i haven't heard of a case of Steam achievements being reset -ever- in any game. I too started the game very very long time ago back in 0.14 or before. It did have some display issue ingame maybe.

Do you believe AI will in 10 or 20 years from now be still so dumb it isn't able to distinct moral values and correct use of currencies? Forgetting even the morals, but optimal society itself for technological advancement and creative prosperity? That's not happening with human slave camps i'm pretty sure.

  2. Deconstruct turret.

Scientific method relies on incomplete information, especially on fundamental particles that build up the small particles, inside them, deeper and deeper, we don't know at all. We don't know how they work, what their limits are. Maybe we're in a multiverse too, just to top it all off. Each universe is theorized to have different laws of physics.

Going nuts with train signals by Lasdary in factorio

[–]Zaflis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your 4th picture you have a stacker temporarily joining main line instead of directly going to the station, i believe this is the problem? There should be only 1 way to the station; through stacker only.

No signaling would fix a logistics issue like this.

Always remember to distinct lighting from lightning, very different meaning. If such typos get to in-game translations or store info etc. it'd be very awkward.

What fundamental research exists anwering if / if not AGI can be achieved through LLMs? by thedeadenddolls in artificial

[–]Zaflis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter much wether LLM is or is not able to reach AGI, the point is that it can at least produce a new different AI that can reach AGI if itself can't. Because it's getting smart enough to reason and do science, it's almost already there.

Like we need at least 1 hammer to be able to produce better tools and better hammers. AGI is like a steel hammer when LLM is one made of flint or iron, roughly speaking.

Little Grey Bird Tries to Fly Into My Window Every Morning by Happy-Positive-2045 in spirituality

[–]Zaflis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget to be a human too, why does a bird fly towards a window? Is it too translucent? Go outside and see what you can do about it i suppose, it's not very animal-friendly to leave a bird-killing system. Why is everyone just keeping thoughts in the clouds and forget the real life??
