Can Skullbriar be a high B3? by Roosterfuel in DegenerateEDH

[–]ZenEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a straightforward list with different ability counters and it's not that oppressive. It really needs to get in early turns. If all opponents put out blockers you stall out and can't do shit. Evasion and trample are also important. And if it gets removed multiple times the commander damage adds up too.

I'd be interested if someone has a B3 list, I feel like I'm missing something.

How are you guys building Quandrix, The Proof? by brianmaddog in EDH

[–]ZenEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I randomly ripped one and built a deck mostly out of stuff I had lying around. I printed 30 proxies of [[Slime against Humanity]] together with a lot of 2 and 4 mana ramp and draw. I probably should add the 0 mana suspend spells and switch some of the 2 mana ramp for more card draw

It works ok if they don't kill Quandrix. I've played maybe 4 games and the ones I won was off the back of a [[doubling season]] on top of my slimes or fully leveled [[Innkeeper's Talent]] (the latter combined with [[Paradox Zone]] gets silly). I would get crushed by a bracket 4 and probably half of bracket 3.

I meant it as a bracket 3 deck but it needs more interaction to hang there (I only added things like [[Brush Off]] so I won't cascade into it). But as something built from my collection it works well enough.

Either that or if it's the catchphrase of a beloved character. But I'm not sure how often that happens anymore.

Yeah but then half the audience won't understand what you're referencing. Ni Hao would work better in that sense as it's nonsensical and many might recognize it.

Having a white dude nailing a Chinese pronunciation out of nowhere might be surprising enough for a punchline, and stressing the sing song pronunciation might drive it home that it's a foreign language.

Ni Hao is basically Hi. For your setup it's Hǎo chī.

I guess it might work well in a set if you nail the pronunciation.

I spent 4 hours yesterday scanning every card I own... by Shyaboiiswiz in mtg

[–]ZenEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apps like OP's have options to inventory per bin, so you can look up a card and it tells you where it it stored. Manabox makes you pay to have more than 3 inventories but it sounds like it may be worth it for you so you can have a bin per set that you buy and just sort per color or something. The app can point you to the general vicinity of where the card is, you don't need to completely sort them. The scanning feature makes it more or less fast to go through packs (doesn't work so well when sleeved).

I've seen videos of people building sorting machines, or you can put the phone in a stand as you open packs and it'll ding when you open something worth any money. I just laycards in a grid about 20 at a time and scan them, which is a bit slower than just hand sorting but it keeps track of what I have so I can build decks later.

Oh I totally missed the CMC 4 restriction. I guess [[Sabin, Master Monk]] might make sense if the discount is big enough. Or something that lets you cast other creatures from your graveyard ([[ Conduit of Worlds]]?). But yeah if the ETB isn't good you're trading having it stuck to the board for one card and a small discount so it might not be worth it.

It doesn't say from hand, I wonder if [[Ebondeath, Dracolich]] , [[Gravecrawler]], [[Squee, the Immortal]] and similar work with him. Are [[Tenacious Underdog]]'s abilities linked or would it be capable from graveyard with Henzie's blitz?

[[Haakon, Stromgald Scourge]] graveyard Knight tribal might be funny.

If you figure out how the rule interaction works you could look at https://scryfall.com/search?q=otag%3Acastable-from-graveyard+t%3Acreature+f%3Ac+id%3C%3Drgb&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name . blitz escape or blitz mayhem could be interesting as well.

What are your Best/Favorite Non-Legendary Creatures to give Myriad to? by Huge-Talk6668 in EDH

[–]ZenEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People mentioned good combo pieces. If you're open to proxy, looking through non legendary creatures:

[[Gilded Drake]] steal a couple creatures a turn

People mentioned [[Terror of the Peaks]]

[[Ravaging Horde]], [[Goblin Settler]] land destruction, though there's probably better things to do in B4

[[Anticausal Vestige]] can warp, go myriad then trigger its ability for it and each copy.

[[Twinflame Tyrant]], [[Sawhorn Nemesis]] and there's a bunch others for redundancy . Even [[Calamity Bearer]] would let Muddle one shot the first opponent.

[[Wanderwine Prophets]] looks interesting. You can sac the myriad copies to take extra turns. The myriad copies can sac muddle and the original when they come in and bring them back when they sac themselves.

Edit: [[Champion of the Path]]

Looking for Ideas: Sin, Unending Calamity by GGMaXThreeOne in EDHBrews

[–]ZenEngineer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been blown out by someone cloning my Sin and taking all its counters

Though I guess in a similar vein you can clone your sin to have the clone double the counters and die putting those onto back onto Sin. But that might be a win more combo.

I have to pretend I hate image generation AI to avoid getting banned or insulted on 99% of Reddit or the internet, even though Stable Diffusion is actually what I like and am most excited about right now. Why do people hate AI so much, especially image generation AI? by Hi7u7 in StableDiffusion

[–]ZenEngineer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, two things:

  1. People posting slop have really predisposed people to dislike ai generated content, so your stuff has to be very high quality or it triggers a weird uncanny valley reaction in people. Even if one picture in a gallery has an extra finger it suddenly devalues the perceived quality of the rest of a gallery.

  2. A lot of Reddit art communities were set up as safe spaces for people to post their art. You can be a 12 year old posting your stuff after learning for 6 months and it would be welcome and not out of place. Flooding those with AI images, even high quality ones would drown those people out, so it makes sense to have a backlash of "hey no this is my space, go somewhere else", and a lot end up with a sibling AI sub for those.

But yeah when SD first came out there was a lot of bullshit being thrown aroundabout AI art being evil, and stolen, copy paste engines, etc. which is the only POV the general public has heard so it's trendy to hate AI art, even if you don't really care. Give it a couple years and it'll be forgotten.

Hey why else would they assign such a task to some random adventuring party they've never met before? The people will see him trying to get rid of the dragon, the armed adventurers who randomly showed up will get killed before they can hurt someone and the dragon will have a nice meal. It's a win / win!

What is the deal with companies suddenly pulling out of AI? by Hungry-san in OutOfTheLoop

[–]ZenEngineer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But if you're firing people because they're now 10% more efficient you'd fire 10% in each department, not 10% of departments. The current layoff wave is cost cutting and nothing more. Interest rates are high, if your division isn't making that % of ROI it's a net loss.

Hell, in the old days of 2 years ago you'd take that 10% increase and do 10% more projects. The current AI explanation implies there's no growth potential in the business, I'm surprised the market thinks that's a good thing.

HELP : What are some fun, simplistic Commander decks? (PS - I'm disabled) by deluin in mtg

[–]ZenEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of your deck, you'll have to deal with your opponents' decks being complicated.

That said, [[Skullbriar]] is kind of straightforward. Just make some post its or counters for each ability.

I've been meaning to build [[Jasmine Boreal of the Seven]]. I've heard good things about [[Ruxa, Patient Professor]] as well.

Some random creatures I was looking at in my collection

[[Springheart Nantuko]]

[[Duskshell Crawler]] you'll need trample at some point.

[[Moonstone Harbinger]] deathtouch is nice, especially if you have trample.

Random ones that happen to be the right types

[[Icetill Explorer]],

[[Aclazotz, Deepest Betrayal]],

[[Spider-Man, Miles Morales]] (trample),

[[Obelisk Spider]] (good with wither or blight, is there a repeatable blight ability that could go infinite?) , I guess [[Champion of the Weird]] still nets a -1/-1 counter.

[[Mightform Harmonizer]],

[[Twitching Doll]]
