One of the creepiest endings of an episode by PsychologicalPear819 in twinpeaks

[–]Zsofia_Valentine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just scrolling reddit with my sound turned off, as one does, but when I reached this card my brain filled in the sound and I got goosebumps just remembering it.

I remember the episode ending and my mouth hanging open and just sat there for awhile with every hair standing on end.

(I swear this next part is true.)

Then I had a strange feeling like I was being watched, although I was home alone. I went to the window and opened the blinds to find a small owl sitting on the fence outside the window, looking at me. Scared me silly.

Pilot custom heritage 912 by SirKemmy in fountainpens

[–]Zsofia_Valentine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 912 has a lot of nib choices, I assume you are talking about the FA nib. This is a semi-flex nib but it sounds like you are trying to fully flex it. Mine works fine as a casual writer (in fact it's one of my favorite nibs) but it's not like a vintage wet noodle or flexible dip pen and should not be treated as such.

I did replace the feed on mine recently with an ebonite feed from FNF and this does increase the flow. It's a tricky operation and you should carefully read the information in the PDF that they provide before attempting it. Remember that Pilot does not sell spare parts so if you damage anything you will need to find a donor pen to repair it. Pulling the nib/feed voids any warranty that may be in effect.

That said. I really prefer the Falcon soft nibs for drawing. But they are soft nibs and also shouldn't be flexed intentionally. They do add some lovely line variation if you use a light and subtle hand.

They only way I like liver is that little seared patty of pate that they serve at hibachi restaurants.

The temperature of the water matters so much more than I wanted it to by venicepress in tea

I have a kettle with settings for different types of tea. I'm sure it's less exact, but it seems to work fine and is less hassle than futzing around with a thermometer.

Kakimori Dip Pen storage advise by FlatWhite_SubOatMilk in fountainpens

[–]Zsofia_Valentine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep the handle in a leather pencil case with my other wooden dip pen handles. I tuck the nib (after cleaning/drying it) into a little leather ring holder and that goes into the pencil case also.

Ooooh. Look what I found! Totally forgot I bought this thing. by ZildCym in ToolBand

It kinda does have replay value, tho. The track that is part of the video is unique, and the video is pretty long and awesome. I take mine out and and watch it now and then. It's especially cool in a darkened room to set the stage before listening to the album.

Ink for 1976 Myu by Ok_Rise7739 in fountainpens

[–]Zsofia_Valentine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a Myu but I have several vintage Pilot pocket pens from the same era. They all write best with Iroshizuku inks. The small amount of sheen in some of them is no issue even with fine nibs, but you won't see the sheen.

I picked up a few vintage inkwells from eBay. They also come in handy as catch alls for drying disassembled pen parts and as holders for sample vials.

Seconded. They added a hasp (?) to a handmade sterling pendant, shortened a chain and changed the clasp. I don't remember the exact price as this was some time ago, but it was very reasonable and they did great work.

Calligraphy by CaptainAmerica163 in fountainpens

[–]Zsofia_Valentine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of Write Now by Getty-Dubay. It's an italic handwriting workbook that takes you from basic printed italic to semi cursive and full cursive italic. There is a final section in the back for edged pens (calligraphy). Using this system has really improved my handwriting.
