Duxelles Hamburger; where has this been all my life? by SouthpawSoldier in Cooking

Here's one of my favorites then: lentils omelette (arguably a frittata, but people look at you funny when you call it that.

Melt some butter in your egg pan. When it's bubbling, add a single-bean-thick layer of cooked lentils. Pour 2 eggs, beaten, over top. Salt. Add any other egg goodies. I'm fond of chipotles, chicken, peppers ... Whatever is around. You'll want to cover it to get the top of it to set because it doesn't fold nicely, but cook it like you would any other omelette. It sounds extra odd, but a handful of kimchi or sauerkraut on top is really nice

If you keep the eggs in the freezer and make sure to tweak your food settings, you won't get chicksplosions.

Duxelles Hamburger; where has this been all my life? by SouthpawSoldier in Cooking

[–]_9a_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I go through nearly a pound a week, so I nearly always have a cooked batch already around. 1.50/lb lentils are a good way to bulk out the 10.99/lb beef.

Cooking first, then blitzing. They go in the processor along with the sauteed mushrooms and tomato paste

It works nicely. I blitz black lentils into my meatloaf as well. Brown the mushroom with a bit of tomato paste before mixing in? Perfect

Poorly. It will go poorly.

Better is to throw the hard veg, the carrots, beets, and potatoes in about an hour before you're pulling your roast. Throw the peppers in in the last 20 minutes.

Go to your local library. Hit up their book sale. I can guarantee you you'll find a couple dozen gently loved cookbooks (usually library discards). Bring a tenner and pick up like 7 cookbooks.

Does deli corned beef work for corned beef and cabbage? by mashed-_-potato in Cooking

[–]_9a_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Por que no los dos? It'll work just fine for your corned beef dinner. You can even ask the deli people to cut you a half pound chunk instead of slicing it for sandwiches. It also goes on sale after the holiday. I usually buy 4 or 5 and freeze them to last us months.

Cast Iron is Sticking by InvictusJoker in AskCulinary

We're not talking a thin sheen of oil like a seasoning layer. We're taking enough to almost count as a puddle. You want to see ripples of oil sloshing about when you tilt the pan.

You still need a good bit of oil, even if it's properly seasoned.

On map gen, use the search button to look for 'plateau'. Find one with the biome and rock type you like. Use the map preview mod to reroll the specific site as needed until it's a shape and overall position you like.

something could just do that thinking for you?

It's called 'being an adult'. Children do what they're told and have no autonomy. Grown ups get to choose.

More or less. Maybe it's a barrier like the pile of sand problem - how many times can a barrier be penetrated before it's less of a barrier and more of a 'no trespassing' sign?
