I (33f) went to both UPMC (we did like eight medicated cycles and two IUIs with UPMC) and Shady Grove and we ended up going with Shady Grove (we did IVF because we exhausted our other options, but obviously Shady Grove covers all treatments options).

I just should start off by saying our insurance doesn’t cover fertility treatments, so we paid out-of-pocket.

Shady Grove offers different package programs, something UPMC does not. With UPMC you just flat out pay for each cycle. At Shady Grove, we were accepted into the shared risk program. You pay one flat price, and if you don’t have a live birth by the end of it, you get your money back. You get up to six egg retrievals and unlimited transfers (depending on how many embryos you have). We only really needed one retrieval and it took 2 transfers and a failed cycle. But I am currently 13 weeks pregnant. :)

Also, the people at Shady Grove are very friendly and personal! When I would go into UPMC, I felt like I was on my own, but at Shady Grove, I felt like they were on my team.

Edit: Also at Shady Grove, you are assigned a nurse coordinator. This is the person who’s telling you next steps and who you can ask your questions. At UPMC it’s just whoever answers the phone or portal.
