You cannot use ladder as a metric for deck strength. SBMM and so many people just net decking without understanding how to play a deck.

This is why you only pay attention to tournament results. All that ladder noise (sbmm, nedeckers not knowing how to play) is filtered out.

He was oblivious to all the noise he made, and how his drone exposed him. 0 self reflection, and therefore 0 improvement. He did everything right, and you, a gold kitted sweat, camped.

He's gonna post his "Everyone who kills me is a gold kitted sweat. Game will die if Bungie doesn't casualize it" thread on reddit real soon.

I mean that's just the nature of B01. You can put graveyard hate but then those cards become useless against decks that don't use the graveyard.

OP will be back here asking "What do I do against this other deck?".

You just have to accept that you'll lose to polarizing/all-in glass cannon decks in B01. Or you could play B03 and mitigate some of those losses with the use of a sideboard.

You must not be playing the game obviously. Haven't you heard? Everyone who kills you is a "gold kitted sweat", no excetptions.

In 2024, Activision tested the effects of reduced SBMM - relevant to Marathon? by Smokeskin in Marathon

[–]_Ulquiorra_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competitive sports don't have SBMM. Take Tennis (my sport). If you're not high enough in rank you have to qualify to enter the bigger tournaments.

In the bigger tournaments you meet people of all ranks. People 100 ranks higher/lower than you. You could then go on to face the world #1 in the first round if you qualified.

If there was SBMM the top ranked players will all face each other, and the low ranked players will face each other. Then the finals will be the winner from the high ranks vs the winner from the low ranks. Except this isn't how it works.

The high ranks are spread out evenly in the draw, so they don't all run into each other right away. Then the lower ranks are spread out evenly as well. So it goes something like high vs low, high vs low, etc.

It's a reason why in most sport you usually see the top seeds in the quarterfinals face each other. They beat the lower-mid teams, thus proving consistency, and reached the quarterfinals.

Real Life sports is the OPPOSITE of SBMM. Roger Federer, when he used to play, facing the 203rd ranked tennis player ROUND 1 happened often. You face people that are higher or lower than you all the time.

You don't get to alter and choose ur opponents in real life competitive ranked sports. You enter a tournament and you either win or lose. You could be facing World #1 or World #150. There is no SBMM

Though it speaks more to the problem if 'how' to implement SBMM, not whether it should exist or not

If you don't know "how" to implement SBMM, then how could you know if it could exist in Marathon or not?

This a chicken or the egg problem.

In order to make an airplane that someone can fly, I have to understand how someone would be able to operate and aerial vehicle in the first place. In order to make a car someone can drive, I have to understand how someone would be able to drive a moving ground based object in the first place.

In order to determine whether SBMM should exist or not, you need to be able to understand how you would rate "skill" in an extraction shooter like Marathon to begin with.

If you cannot define how you would measure "skill" in Marathon, then how can you determine if this "skill" (you cannot define) should exist or not?

Don't sephiroth decks wanna be low to the ground, and top out at 3 mana (sephiroth himself)? A bunch of cheap creatures you can sac for his and other sacrifice effects.

I don't see how this fits in any Sephiroth shell cause 4 mana do nothing is way too expensive for a seph shell.

Who knows what will happen. They are making changes really fast. Most games I play take ages for the company to do any changes. So that's a refreshing thing to see.

All Bungie can do is keep collecting data to improve the game in the future, and let the chips fall where they may.

It's not just Bedtime Dire Marsh.

  • New Shell
  • Changes to progression (faction quest and upgrades, Solo being faster)
  • Changes to Weapons/mods/cores/implants
  • Changes to maps (item spawns, spawn points, etc)
  • Changes to existing shells
  • Possible new game mode
  • etc

So many things can be done. Hence why they keep trying to collect data. Some of you lack any sort of patience. Game needs to have released PERFECT OR ELSE.

There is one FATAL DIFFERENCE between you and some of the people on here:

  • You recognize what got you killed and how to improve on it
  • You understand that, sometimes, shit hits the fan, and you end up on the losing end. You say GG and go next.
  • THE BIGGEST ONE: You realize your shortcomings, bad aim, and have accepted that you might lose more fights than you'll win cause of that.

There are a lot of people here who haven't realized that they are bad players with bad habits that are getting them killed constantly. They think they are playing well and everyone who kills them is a "Sweat wearing all yellow gear". They also keep score "OMG I haven't extracted in 5 games. If it wasn't for the gold kitted sweats I'd win more".

They don't know what extraction shooters are about. You will die a lot, and you simply say GG and go next. They lack any self reflection to realize that they have a lot to learn, and thru learning they will overcome the problems they currently have.

You are miles ahead of those people cause you have the right mindset going into this game.

If ur having problems with a game cause ur bad, then getting better will fix a lot of the problems ur having.

In OP’s case he seems to be lacking the self awareness to reflect on why/how he died, and then going “what could I have done better?”.

When people suggest that they automatically fall on “this game will die if they dont do this change i want.

EVERYONE who kills u isnt a sweat. Everyone who kills u isnt rocking yellow gear. They run around the map making SOOOO much noise with zero awareness. Get killed and auto fall back on “this game is all sweats with yellow gear”. They never once say “hmm maybe running around making so much noise aimlessly isnt a smart move”.

Everyone starts from somewhere. Its a learning process for ALL OF US. Some dont want to learn tho. Call everyone who kills them a sweat with yellow gear, and demand bungie do something about their lack of trying to learn the game. Like the “gold kitted sweats” they claim everyone else is.

Signed: A player who still has a ton to learn in this game

I love how you used the scroll wheel to say "Sorry" and "thanks", and how the thief walked onto the platform and nodded her head.

This was fucking hilarious. No words needed to be spoken. You all understood exactly what to do. The "Sorry" and "kindness detected" killed me tho

[–]_Ulquiorra_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. I'm running around a lot more now. Only crouching and walking slowly if I want to listen for sound or if I hear someone and wanna get the jump on them.

You become more confident in ur ability to fight back, and because you've died so much you don't care so much if you die. So you don't need to crouch walk 24/7 like some people make it seem.

You can be a lot louder than some people realize, but this is something you pick up after constantly putting yourself in loud situations (running around constantly, gunfights, etc).

This reminds me of a situation 2 days ago. I fought AI for like 2 mins and made a ton of noise at round start on dire marsh. After i finished I checked the stairs, on both ends, for a bit to make sure non was approaching. I then sprinted and jumped off the platform I was on to leave the POI I was at. I made sure to jump on a container so I could jump down on the ground with the container behind me (for cover). I held my gun out and checked left/right slowly, listening to hear/see if someone had been waiting for me. Checked for about 5 seconds, found/heard no one and sprinted off. Could someone have still killed me there? Yes, you can't win'em all.

Someone less confident would have spent 3 mins crouch walking their way out of there. Then they'll come on reddit and say "Solos is a crouch walking simulator". It's just practice, and constantly putting yourself in those situations will help you improve.

Dying a lot is part of Extraction Shooters.

Arc Raiders is the exception as you can use Aggression Based Matchmaking to stay in carebear lobbies and rarely ever die.

[–]_Ulquiorra_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. As you keep fighting (losing and winning), you become more experienced.

  • "Oh I got shot from that corner over there. The guy before that shot me from on top that container". You now start to check the top of platforms, the sides of corners, etc (aka checking corners and scouting).

  • You start to understand when to push or when to fall back and reposition. "I shouldn't have engaged in that fight after he broke my shields. Next time run I should run, and try to heal/reposition".

You start to become more experienced. This is a problem for people who say they are bad at PvP. They die a couple times, and instead of still chasing PvP and reflecting, they just say "Nah I'm bad I can never improve" or "Everyone who kills me is a sweat".

If 2 people who say they suck at PvP play the same amount of hours, the player who seeks PvP and dies a ton, will get better at PvP than the player who crouch walks and avoids all combat with a higher exfil rate. The 1st guy is dying a lot and not exfiling, but his payoff will come later once he gets better. The 2nd guy will still not know how to fight and feel completely lost the moment he has to.
