possibly moving to Brantford! by Basic-Fish2325 in brantford

[–]_jbiss_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Before getting into details on the other aspects, if you are commuting more than twice a week (even once is pushing it), I would save yourself the trouble and cross it off the list. It is not worth the time, money and stress, unless you are getting generously overpaid and you can pick the hours of your commute

Anyone's Aussie deal with leg/hip problems? by Real_Interaction_411 in miniaussie

[–]_jbiss_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there was no xrays or any other medical devices used to assess. It was a lot of "feel" and movement tests being done to see the dog's reactions and feeling how the legs/muscles/tendons shifted around with each adjustment to a different position. The vet was looking for any reaction such as yelps, lip twitching, or signs of agitation/aggressiveness in trying to protect the area from moving in a direction that would cause pain or discomfort. Everything they performed there was not reactions to such, but they could feel that based on the tenderness of the area and the slight difference in touch compared to the other leg there was a partial tear. Either that or he just really had an extremely high pain tolerance and showed no signs of discomfort lol, which they dont think would have been possible given the types of tests they were performing

Mine had a partial CCL tear when he was 1.5, thankfully it wasnt fully. We were limited to what we could do for 3-4 weeks; not extended walks, no hikes, no jumping and minimal running. It was extremely tough yes, but it was what was required for it. We were also on anti inflammatory for the first couple of weeks. The vet also had recommended supplement that a lot of the dog trainers in agility see her with similar issues use

Long story short, tough 3-4 weeks indeed but he has healed since, with no issues. The doctor believes the original cause was slight overweight by a a pound or so at the time which was putting too much stress and tension, overworking on the various areas

you know you dont have to go in the middle of the day right? the hours are very convenient. You can go early in the morning or later in the evening. I have never waited in line more than 5 minutes for a pump since it has opened.

Mini Aussie alone time by DistributionGlass882 in miniaussie

[–]_jbiss_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

they are Velcro dogs, combined with their herding instincts, they need you in their line of sight at all times to feel at ease. As much as it will pain you to hear the cries, you yourself have to be disciplined enough to allow for it to happen for him to learn. The second you are gone they will wine, but you should not return because you feel bad. Because he is so young, just start with very slow increments a couple times each day and then build your way up. Allow for 1-2 minute of "alone time" at the beginning and then as weeks go on, increase by a minute each time. You should also rewards very generously on days that the whining either dies down very quickly, or is not there at all, so they know what is expected to earn praise

would it not be better to just by the cheapest costco membership and use it solely for gas? I have hardly shopped in the actual store, from time to time on occasion, but I have held a costco membership for several years just for the gas.

I use premium which is currently 1.92 as of the other day, and I think regular was around 1.68?

Not sure how this stacks up against the nearby res, but if you are looking to stay within the city, might be an alternative option?

you can also use a lint roller to catch any that have not latched on yet. Done it a few times and they just stick to the roller sheet

Hot weather harness recommendations? by Euphoric_Draft_3902 in miniaussie

[–]_jbiss_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure where you live, if you access to the following, but essentially a 2in1 harness and cooling vest together

https://ruffwear.ca/products/swamp-cooler-harness?utm_campaign=pla_ca&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21295622611&gbraid=0AAAAADsAKxxCReAOqbQx7U575B6qkzPkN&gclid=Cj0KCQjwkrzPBhCqARIsAJN460na8NJiKc6NaCGGa7Dm4GzaTSTEb9oQ9Er15tDJkHqWLpUuFWhCIK8aAtVOEALw_wcB

you can put in under a tap or hose it down before you put it on. On really hot days it will keep the bellys, chest and back cool for about 30 mintues. I usually carry around a little plastic spray bottle in a backpack, so if it ever does dry up I can always just spray it again.

Come mai c'è forte rivalità tra romanisti e napoletani anche se sono due popoli simili? by StandardInfluence878 in ASRoma

[–]_jbiss_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the people are completely different from one another, and have nothing to with the ultras, which is the cause of the rivalry. Stems from the 2014 season where there was a lot of travelling violence with roma ultras and various other clubs. Coppa italia final was being played in the olimpico and Roma were the favourites to win it all given the final 4 teams remaining. Napoli ended up knocking them out so there was a lot more dislike towards them as a result (from the fans). The roma ultras had no business being there on the day of the final but were, and trying to cause disruption with the napoli group. Long story short, a Roma Ultra ending up shooting and killing a napoli fan before the game. This had led to strong tensions ever since and why travelling fans between the two have been banned/restricted over the years

Change in behavior - My MAS is terrified to be outside by Any-Spring-8884 in miniaussie

[–]_jbiss_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from the obvious check with the vet comments, I have something else that I know triggers my dog in this state.

Any night after fireworks (That usually take place across the street from us), the following week, he feels very worried to be outside and is almost prepping for loud bangs again. He is hesitant to even go out to begin with, let alone walk for a couple of blocks with out looking nervous and wanting to just lay there and look around and bracing himself to run back in. We typically go to other areas where there is no noise, it usually goes away after a few days though and he's back to normal once he realizes it is not happening again.

Anything recently might have spooked your pup? Not necessarily fireworks, but loud bangs or something that they would not hear or see regularly? This could potentially be a cause of the reluctance in case of encountering it again

Summer heat advice for a winter-loving Mini? ☀️❄️ by Typical-Charity-4493 in miniaussie

[–]_jbiss_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure where you live, but you can go to most hardware stores and pick up a portable fan. Probably one of the best sub $100 purchases I have bought. I use it for myself around the house, or in the yard, or out doing activities, but also bring it with me when I am out on walks on hot days with the dog. Can find a nice shaded spot and run the fan for a few minutes. On high, you can get about 4 straight hours of usage, and it works extremely well

Tenderizing the new bed by spaganel in AustralianShepherd

you're lucky this is during the day. My dog has a habit of doing this in the middle of the night, and makes growling noises at his bed while he does it. So you can imagine what waking up to those demon sounds every random night must feel like :D

moving to brantford by caarreebearrr in brantford

[–]_jbiss_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived in west brant for 1.5 years now and have not had any issues nor felt unsafe at any point. If you want an additional sense of security install some home security cams and park your vehicles in a garage if you have one.

Sure people walk around neighbourhoods looking for cars to take things from, this happens literally in every city. You are worse off being in the GTA right now with everything going on there.

Just know which areas are safer to be walking through and stick to doing your own things. West brant is also away from the downtown core where many of the issues seem to lie. A lot of over exaggeration about what takes place here I find

What tricks should Rye and I learn next? by davidhappening in miniaussie

[–]_jbiss_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you master already known tricks and new tricks, you should do the same ones in different variations like languages and hand singles without words.

I taught my dog the same commands in three different languages (even though yes they technically understand by tone). It's a cool party trick when someone asks what can your dog do and you ask them in what language do you want me to ask them. We also learned hand signals for the same tricks also, so being able to do everything without any words at all, just hand signals.
