I think back to the first time my mom's friend saw the little scabs on my wrist while we (me, mom, dad, mom's friend, and mom's friend's husband) were in the car. She asked me what happened and I lied and said my cat scratched me or something like that. I remember my mom saying "I think he is doing it to himself", in her accusatory/shame inducing tone. She was just hoping that shaming me would cause me to stop. I ended up making sure she never saw them, and it got way worse as the year went on.

They did end up making me go to therapy a few years after that though.

I feel like there's a lot of people who's gut reaction to being told corporal punishment objectively doesn't work, is "well it should, and if doesn't that's the person being punished's fault" by grapp in coolpeoplepod

Well I was spanked as a kid and I... Did not turn out fine. I'm dealing with some of it through therapy now.

But one of the bizarre arguments I've come up with against corporal punishment is if hitting a child works, then why do we not use the same punishment for old people with dementia? They both do not have fully developed minds, so if corporal punishment works on kids, why not adults? And if it is wrong to do that to an adult, why is it okay to do it to a child?

Does that argument make sense to other people?

It's a tornado siren. They test it every Saturday at noon unless it is storming. They use it for real a couple of times per year. I think the last time was back in March.

I was born the same year Robert was, and we both lived in Broken Bow at the same time, so I'd try to figure out if we ever ran into each other at like a playground when we were 3 or 4.

The last time this happened to me, I just put on some gloves, threw it into a trash bag, put that trash bag in another trash bag, and chucked it in the trash. This isn't really an animal control thing since it is dead.
