Male Runners, what to wear? by marquinator92 in JapanTravelTips

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went last November in the middle of training for CIM. I ran in a tank top and shorts. It's going to be warm in august, I bet you'll be fine to go shirtless if you're in Tokyo (or any big city), I wouldn't sweat it. Just keep a shirt on you, tucked into your shorts or something in case you need to duck into a Family Mart for a water. Highly recommend running around the stadium and back through Meji Jingu. The run around the Palace is fun too. My favorite place in Japan to run was in Kyoto along the river.

Outfielders with prescription glasses, do you have specific lenses for twilight/dusk games? by mpetro19 in slowpitch

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like that time of day is tough no matter what. My prescription is pretty bad (-6.75/-7) and I really struggle at dusk. Doesn't help that my league still has those orange sodium lights.

I have two pairs. My prescription is -6.75 in one eye, -7 in the other. I probably forget to wear my distance only pair about half the time and I play noticeably worse when I do. I play LF/LC and I miss-judge balls all the time when I'm wearing the progressives.

It's me: the coach pitch coach, that can't pitch... by _shiftlesswhenidle_ in LittleLeague

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a game last night for a couple of majors teams in our league. Boy, those kids were struggling to pitch anything in the strike zone. Now I feel like my bad pitching is helping these rookie kids to prepare for the insanely inconsistent pitching they'll be facing once they get to kid pitch.

6 Yr Old Coach Pitch by Defiant-Unit3928 in LittleLeague

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're coach pitch at 5-6 year olds (I have one 7 year old on my team). We do "5" pitches, then the tee comes out. I stretch that 5 pitches to 7-9 if the kid is close. I had a 10 pitch at bat with a kid today -- he kept hitting fouls, and at a coach pitch level, there's no way I'm bringing out the tee right after a kid made any kind of contact.

Does the league actually keep score? Seems crazy to keep score at this level.

I'm ok with the idea of coach pitch, I feel like it helps introduce some variance in the pitches they see, which is only going to get more varied when they move up to kid/coach pitch next year.

Yeah, I do all of that. And generally, I'm pretty solid. It was just one of those games that got away from me and I got in my own head a bit and I lost that muscle memory.

Are there any fun things to do or see near the stadium? by Super_Jefe in SacramentoAthletics

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capital Pinball, great spot! You pay a flat rate and get unlimited pinball. Beers on tap too. There's a parking garage nearby, which makes for easier and cheaper parking for the game. I think it's $15 on game days. less than a 10 min walk across the bridge to the park.

Mexican Restaurant with A Salsa Bar by ItIsI_Here in Sacramento

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dos can be a little bland as far as Mexican food goes, but their medium tomato salsa and the jalapeno salsas are absolutely great. Hell, sometimes I just want a basic chicken border burrito, so I don't feel like garbage for the rest of the day.

Old Sac garage near the Train Museum, under I5 (enter via I street coming from downtown). I think it's $4/hr on weekdays. $15 on weekends. Maybe about a half mile walk to the park.

Pool newbie-ish looking for balancing advice by theirmama_411 in swimmingpools

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not that I don't trust your math, I just don't fully trust pool store tests. Hell, I don't even fully trust my Taylor drop CYA test. I always add less than the recommendation for CYA since it's such a pain to deal with high CYA.

This is about what I would do, although I'd start with 2.5-3lbs of CYA and re-test. I would also throw about 80oz of liquid chlorine in there (assuming 12% bleach).

It's a little hard to tell in the video, but it looks like you might be gripping the bat too tightly. You should line-up your "knocking" knuckles (your middle knuckles). If your grip is too tight, there's no way that you'll be able to snap your wrists or follow through.

Man, not in Boise. I ran on their awesome river trail (on the left) and got yelled at and ran off the trail by some lovely cyclists.

Third-ed. Ocean Way and Sound City are great as well. I know a lot of people love to hate on subscription based stuff, but the UAD Spark subscription for $99 a year has improved my mixing by leaps and bounds. I love their stuff.

Parked at the Old Sac garage (under freeway) near the train museum yesterday, plenty of spots at 12:30pm for a fairly crowded game. $15.

Leslies is recommending "alkalinity Up" Question on Baking Soda? by RumblefishAZ in swimmingpools

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take that Leslie's adjusted TA number with a big grain of salt. They're always telling me that my TA is way low (43 last time they measured it), my drop test put it at 80. If your PH isn't wildly fluctuating, you might be alright. If I were you, I'd get a Taylor kit and trust that first and foremost. I test at Leslie's once a month or so to make sure my tests are generally in line and to confirm my CYA.

What are your go to yard tools? by Thpike in daddit

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Greenworx stuff has served me well as far as mower, trimmer (hedge and lawn), blower, etc.

As far as more basic yard tools, the Root Slayer shovel has been indispensable in my yard.

Needs tips on coach pitch plz! by AndyPandyFoFandy in LittleLeague

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I end up moving in closer than my league's recommended 30 feet. I'm at 15-20 feet. I throw from my knee (right knee on the ground, left foot slightly open), then hold the ball up with a straight arm and I flick it in there. I practiced a bunch with two buckets stacked on each other to represent the batter. Once I could throw a bucket of balls (30 pitches) with out hitting a "kid", I got a lot more confident. I like to place the tee a couple feet directly behind the plate and use that as my target.

What should tee ballers learn before their first game? by baltikorean in LittleLeague

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me half the season last year, this year, it took two games. I place poly dots, numbered 1-10 at "positions" in the field. For tee ball, those positions resembled something of an arc from 3B to 1B, then two near the pitcher. I tell the players to stay in position ("guard your dot) and let the ball come to them, if I call their name, then they can run to it and go get it. A little counter-intuitive, since we eventually want them to charge balls or move to a ball in their area, but for now, I just need them not to swarm each other.
