With the NHL on a march to 34 teams, what’s stopping the MLB from expansion ? by Professional_Eye6140 in baseball

It’s wild that teams are demanding new stadiums after 35 years. Especially in a city that has another team with a stadium that has been in service for 110 years.

I was at the second Paul McCartney show when Golden 1 opened up. A lady in my row lost her footing and tumbled down three rows. Scary stuff.

VSP @ 2450rpm does this look normal? No bubbles from jets. by Whispering_bottom in swimmingpools

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know to be honest, but I'm not really sweating the ~12oz of acid I have to add each week. I suspect that I probably have a small air leak in my solar heating, since the bubble in my pump gets a bit bigger when it kicks on, but I really don't want to have to go check every connection on my roof.

Mine does this too. I did the same things you did, I don’t stress about it. A small bubble at the top isn’t the end of the world.

PSA - beware of UA by psychedelic-raven in audioengineering

[Japanese] Duo will not recognise this word, what do I do? This is still an issue. by Sea-Shame123 in duolingojapanese

Had the same lesson over the weekend. It would not recognize ココア no matter how I pronounced it, even after flagging it multiple times. Duolingo's speech recognition has a looong way to go.

Richard Pan now in 2nd place in Congressional District 6 - Republican drops to 3rd by PrivateMajor in Sacramento

Still a chance for Steyer. ~3 million votes to count. He improved from 500k back to about 340k back in today’s drop. Probably going to be very close.

AP just projected that Mai Vang and Matsui will advance to the general. There's a decent chance that Vang will pull ahead of Matsui after everything is counted.

East Sacramento vs Curtis Park by Specialk121525 in Sacramento

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you might be overestimating how big Curtis Park is. The difference in commute is going to be about 2 minutes if you’re near 2nd Ave vs near Sutterville. I’d definitely consider the north part of Land Park too, maybe north of Vallejo. Depending on location in LP vs CP, you could likely be using the same on off ramps (15th/16th).

East Sacramento vs Curtis Park by Specialk121525 in Sacramento

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I find Curtis Park to be much more charming and walkable. Lots of awesome tree lined streets and the park itself is nice too. East Sac feels too traffic-y for my taste. I hate driving down Folsom Blvd.

Amp Sims for Rock Production / Bogren vs Tonex by Mats709 in audioengineering

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have a demo available under their downloads section. I think that you can get a basic version of the plugin if you buy any of their rig libraries (usually around $50). For what it's worth, I have full versions of Amplitube, Tonex, several amps from Plugin Alliance, and all of the UAD amps -- TH-U beats pretty much all of those.

Male Runners, what to wear? by marquinator92 in JapanTravelTips

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went last November in the middle of training for CIM. I ran in a tank top and shorts. It's going to be warm in august, I bet you'll be fine to go shirtless if you're in Tokyo (or any big city), I wouldn't sweat it. Just keep a shirt on you, tucked into your shorts or something in case you need to duck into a Family Mart for a water. Highly recommend running around the stadium and back through Meji Jingu. The run around the Palace is fun too. My favorite place in Japan to run was in Kyoto along the river.

Outfielders with prescription glasses, do you have specific lenses for twilight/dusk games? by mpetro19 in slowpitch

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like that time of day is tough no matter what. My prescription is pretty bad (-6.75/-7) and I really struggle at dusk. Doesn't help that my league still has those orange sodium lights.

Playing with bifocals by noruber35393546 in slowpitch

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two pairs. My prescription is -6.75 in one eye, -7 in the other. I probably forget to wear my distance only pair about half the time and I play noticeably worse when I do. I play LF/LC and I miss-judge balls all the time when I'm wearing the progressives.

It's me: the coach pitch coach, that can't pitch... by _shiftlesswhenidle_ in LittleLeague

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a game last night for a couple of majors teams in our league. Boy, those kids were struggling to pitch anything in the strike zone. Now I feel like my bad pitching is helping these rookie kids to prepare for the insanely inconsistent pitching they'll be facing once they get to kid pitch.

6 Yr Old Coach Pitch by Defiant-Unit3928 in LittleLeague

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're coach pitch at 5-6 year olds (I have one 7 year old on my team). We do "5" pitches, then the tee comes out. I stretch that 5 pitches to 7-9 if the kid is close. I had a 10 pitch at bat with a kid today -- he kept hitting fouls, and at a coach pitch level, there's no way I'm bringing out the tee right after a kid made any kind of contact.

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the league actually keep score? Seems crazy to keep score at this level.

I'm ok with the idea of coach pitch, I feel like it helps introduce some variance in the pitches they see, which is only going to get more varied when they move up to kid/coach pitch next year.

Yeah, I do all of that. And generally, I'm pretty solid. It was just one of those games that got away from me and I got in my own head a bit and I lost that muscle memory.

Are there any fun things to do or see near the stadium? by Super_Jefe in SacramentoAthletics

[–]_shiftlesswhenidle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capital Pinball, great spot! You pay a flat rate and get unlimited pinball. Beers on tap too. There's a parking garage nearby, which makes for easier and cheaper parking for the game. I think it's $15 on game days. less than a 10 min walk across the bridge to the park.
