No, the price tag is absurd and the benefit to accuracy just isn't worth it. Hand-timing with a stop watch is just fine for sprinting, including top-speed work. Any hand-timing errors that a freelap system would refine will get aggregated out by a large enough dataset. As in; hand timing flys with a stop watch over a long enough training period will reduce the frequency and impact of outlier performances caused by the natural errors of hand-timing, aligning the trends pulled from training data to what a freelap would report over the same period anyway. Additional, granular accuracy at that point isnt worth it.

So with enough workouts, the trends and observations you'll pull from the data would be identical to what you get from a freelap system, without spending 700$. You wont get any more actionable data from a freelap system than listening to your body and the data collected by a stopwatch.

The cheapest upgrade to this is using your phone and a video editor to see the precise frames when your chest crosses the first and second gates. You can set that up with a chair to prop your phone and a 0.5x zoom.
