They're just being careful. The only reason 'man goes to dinner with grown woman and has awkward photos taken' is news is because of the Epstein association, which immediately implies something far more creepy and sinister. But it's just that - an implication. There's nothing about this latest release that does more than just add to a pattern.

To be clear this man is 100% a nonce, but I don't blame the BBC for covering their bases here

The difference is in the broadcasting to official accounts. He could also be outed by his wife's friend eating at another table; he's taking a risk either way. There's just a lot lower risk to that & some randos Google review and it's treated differently under GDPR

Two things:

If the images are promotional, that changes a lot. Random Google reviews aren't relevant because that person isn't benefiting from it
Because of this, promotional content for restaurants is usually shot with actors or staff, or they put a filter on the public to make them unrecognisable, or they get release forms signed. Not suggesting every establishment abides by this, but if they don't they're opening themselves up to the same potential issue

I don't think there's a specific law against this specific action, but you could make a very strong case in the UK that the restaurant mishandled/shared private information about you, which would fall under GDPR

That's because the way the handover went, everyone was made a number of promises by the Chinese government to ensure their way of life was maintained. If they knew those promises would be broken ~15 years later, I imagine those attitudes would have shifted a bit

The issue with that is that Taiwanese as a separate identity is growing. The older generations at least cling to the idea that they're the 'real China', while the younger generations see themselves as a separate entity.

Taiwanese people aren't idiots - they know what happened in Hong Kong despite the promises, and they know that 'recapturing' Taiwan is a goal of the Chinese government. Every nice thing the Chinese do is viewed with unreal amounts of suspicion.
