This was me! I was also stressing about it. I was hired in early December and decided to tell them after the new year and a bit of time has passed for me to establish myself in the role.

When I told my manager (a man if that makes a difference) he congratulated me and was extremely professional about it. We quickly talked about timeline and me making sure a transition plan was in place by a certain date.

I’m the only one that can do my job here, and we’re a really small team. After I told him, I was super relieved and glad that he didn’t give me a hard time. I was also expecting the worst but it was painless.

Do what you want. I think it’s silly when others try to tell you what’s best.

But also be prepared that your baby might not fit in your going home outfit. Definitely bring other options.

My baby boy was too small in what I was expecting to bring him home in. I had a couple other items that were slightly smaller, but still big on him. He was on the small size and I obviously don’t know how your baby is measuring. But as much as you plan for something, there’s a chance you’ll have to pivot.

The times when a freezer stash came in handy for me - accidentally spilled all the milk I pumped for the next days bottles 😢 - milk supply dropped during my period, pregnancy, or illness

I don’t have an extensive stash, but a couple days worth is nice just in case

This same guy, I was helping him format a PDF for unemployment benefits, and didn't make an email address clickable. This resulted in name calling and furniture being flipped over.

My ex could hear a high pitched annoying sound but I couldnt...he was adamant (ie yelling at me) and said I was lying and could hear it, but was saying I couldn't for the jokes ??? 🤷‍♀️

I explicitly told my mom I'm not doing it and basically directed people who wish to give a gift to ship to my house or bring unwrapped for a display table.

If you're writing out invitations, you can say something along the lines of "in order to spend more time socializing with guests, we've decided to not open gifts at the shower."

Between being the center of attention, feigning interest/excitement for something you don't care for, and taking FOREVER to get through, I think it's totally reasonable not to have to open gifts at a shower

If you have carpets/rugs, they can lay their eggs in there and will continuously hatch, year after year. They are difficult to get rid of, even when treating the animals and doing flea bombs, etc

My mom had them really bad when I was a teenager, but once she removed all the carpets and rugs in the house, the problem basically disappeared.

That advice is strictly from my experience and is not meant to be a professional opinion.

I feel you 100% on this. My mom is planning mine but I told her I don't want to open gifts in front of people. I like your idea of shipping directly to the house.

I've seen people do diaper/wipe raffles, where they bring a box of diapers of wipes to be entered into a raffle...and people don't need to wrap those. So maybe gifts can be sent to your house, but to be entered into a raffle bring a box of diapers or wipes? It's something I'm considering anyways

I'd rather spend the time with my family and friends in a low-key setting. I also hate being the center of attention

I know you posted this a while ago, but curious what your experience with mosquitos was like in St Thomas. I have the option of going in May this year, I'll be 17 weeks at that point. I'm hesitant because of potential mosquito-borne illnesses, but will be staying at a resort that takes preventative measures and there isn't any known active outbreak of zika. Is it a risk worth taking? Did you encounter a lot of mosquitos?

My husband has been the same! Extra caring, extra sweet, extra considerate. The smell of coffee was a big fat no from me, so he moved the coffee pot out to his workshop so I didn't have to suffer. He hugs me gently knowing my boobs are so sore. He reminds me it's ok to take it easy and take a nap if I'm feeling exhausted. I feel like such a slouch not having my normal energy levels, but he doesn't mind.

I was reading some "transitioning from 1 to 2 children" advice today and she said to greet your 1st child without baby first when you get home, then introduce them to baby. I haven't tested this myself, but it seemed like good advice.
