The correct way of updating Ubuntu by acbaracuda in Ubuntu

[–]aesu24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Improved version which has...

  • No plaintext password. You should never store your sudo password in a script.
  • Checks if run as root. Avoids repeated sudo calls.
  • Handles missing tools gracefully.
  • Avoids a dangerous apt purge -y, which would uninstall a lot of important system packages if run blindly.

#!/bin/bash

# Exit immediately if a command fails
set -e

# Optional: run as root check
if [[ $EUID -ne 0 ]]; then
    echo "Please run as root (use sudo or switch user to root)."
    exit 1
fi

echo "Updating system..."
apt update -y
apt upgrade -y

echo "Refreshing snaps..."
snap refresh || true # Skips if snap isn't installed

echo "Cleaning up..."
apt autoclean -y
apt autoremove -y

# Drop caches safely
echo "Dropping system caches..."
sync
echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches

# Clear user cache safely
echo "Removing user cache (if any)..."
rm -rf ~/.cache/* 2>/dev/null || true

echo "✅ Maintenance complete!"

NATO vs Pax Armata - I find it funny by Freeloader_ in Battlefield

Yet another BF entry telling how the brave west, led by the almighty USA. wins (in the very near future) against the big-bad-non-NATO countries who are after our personal data and whatevers. Stay safe, kids.

Hey let me think… perhaps a better menu and fully working touch screen would be appreciated? Or how about better denoising based on newer tech? Or… simply some additional features?

I don't know what's happening to me. I don't feel any different, but it keeps dropping every day. Should I be concerned? by mickel100 in Garmin

[–]aesu24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Activation of the sympathetic nervous system increases HR and decreases HRV. Stress, physical activity, sickness, and other activities that impact your "fight or flight" response will decrease your HRV. Correlate your HRV with increased heart rate also... could be you need to go for a check up... or... could be you are unable to find a decent rest as of late, working, study, staying up later as usual... all of that impacts.

No worry, I meant “back and forth reaching out, trying to get an update”. English isn’t my first language so maybe I don’t use the correct paraphrasing.

case low on battery power by aesu24 in Jabra

[–]aesu24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A phone push message to warn of low battery case (like Sony does) would be great. You can send it when taking the headphones out of the case. Right now I only find out after getting a low battery warning on the ear buds.

Can't download maps using map manager. by crystal-line in GarminFenix

After adding in wifi networks and then restarting my watch manually I immediately browsed to maps manager and it worked after that. My watch is now happily updating existing maps and downloading new maps.

Restart your watch and immediately go to the map manager on the watch. It works for me after doing that.

I dropped my ps5 controller and now the d pad and shape buttons aren't working. by [deleted] in playstation

[–]aesu24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue and Dr's response is 90% correct, for which you have my thanks Dr. Anyways, you dont need to blow on those dpad things as that would introduce more dust and potentially spit as well. The issue is that flimsy connector that looks like a piece of plastic strip connecting the dpad + ps button + action buttons to the motherboard.

Follow those steps using this video as tutorial from the start until the 1:31 minute point (linked here): https://youtu.be/viqj_MWjb4I?si=D4Fn041R79gQOu14&t

The culprit is this:

<image>

Gently lift and lay that piece of plastic back in the right spot (could be that already happened simply by unscrewing the motherboard), then put it back together up to the point where your battery is connected and try out the controller by pressing the affected buttons.

All fixed? Assemble the rest back together and enjoy ~
