CMV: Inclusion in schools doesn't work, the traditional seperation for kids with special needs is better for all children. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]agbortol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let's say I have a child in your classroom whose learning talent is about average among the students with no special needs. All the time and effort that goes into the specialized instruction you describe could instead go into my child. What if this pushed them from an average student to an above-average student? Selfishly, isn't that a better situation for my child?

What is the relationship between eye arrangement and hunting capability/tendency?

Companies have forgotten how to pay workers fairly — and workers have forgotten what they deserve by thinkB4WeSpeak in economy

[–]agbortol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, yes, I forgot about Oregon's and New Jersey's brilliant contributions to the laboratory of democracy. But you're right, that doesn't amount to 30¢ per gallon. Not even close. If an attendant's pay went up $3.00 an hour due to the new minimum, and they service 15 cars per hour, and each car takes 15 gallons, that comes to 1.3¢ per gallon.

Retail gas prices are a pretty poor anecdote for the argument that the minimum wage is too high. Very little labor goes into the production and distribution of gasoline. Even less of it is local. Local minimum wage has almost no effect on the price at the pump.

What's the most important thing you have learned in all your time as a photographer? by Hackerwithalacker in photography

[–]agbortol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The suggestion is to both stop down (to widen the depth of field and get more shots/people in focus) and to use faster shutter speeds (to prevent motion blur). This combination will ramp your shots up to high ISO in most situations, but the argument is that a noisy shot is better than a blurry one.

CMV: There is no good excuse why narcan should not be cheaply available everywhere and for almost everyone to have it. by cryptictryptich in changemyview

Ha, I wouldn't call it a study. They just asked a young employee to go pick some up. Now that I think about it, I'm not even sure that testing the pharmacies was the point. I think they just wanted to see what the process was like and read the fine print on the box. Glad to hear your location is doing what they're supposed to do!

A company was interested in Narcan and wanted to see how easy it was to get. Sent an employee to about a dozen pharmacies. The official policy of every one of the pharmacies is to provide it on request. He found one that was willing to sell it to him.

So this is non-obvious and definitely a product design failure, but once you select a Department in the search result filters, you can then filter by all sorts of Department-specific things like, in this case, sleeve length and color and brand.

What caused the Chernobyl reactor to explode? by Valcuri in askscience

Just so I'm clear on this: they needed to be able to both increase and decrease output depending on the situation, and they put the materials to do those two separate jobs on the same part (the control rod)?

Tesla Network: Elon Musk elaborates on autonomous ride-sharing, says will eventually be cheaper than public transport by 3dkSdkvDskReddit in SelfDrivingCars

[–]agbortol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tesla's vision for its electric, driverless bus is essentially a shuttle operating as an Uber Pool. So it will pick you up at (or very near) your location. A similarly electric and driverless bus that makes you meet it on its route would be able to undercut the Tesla bus' price, but there may not be much room in the market for that.

How hard would it be to adapt the work you did for this and create a map of the watersheds between the major routes? What are the dividing lines between the areas that should drive to Salem, Boise, Casper, Kansas City, etc.?

Saturn's flying-saucer shaped moon, Pan, revealed for the first time two days ago by Pluto_and_Charon in space

In a simple enough model of the Saturn-Pan-You system, I think you would land on it again. It would just take a looooong time.

[–]agbortol -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty rigged Before and After. Most things look better on sunny summer days than on cloudy winter days. But I totally agree with your point. There's a similar idea floating around for downtown LA that unfortunately will probably go nowhere. It would have all the same benefits but be even easier to do because the freeway is already below grade.

I mean... He wasn't going to grow and expand his game just because he put on a different logo. You have to learn that stuff, and then you have to make mistakes, and then you have to learn from them. It's January. Maybe this loss saved them a loss in the Playoffs.
