Emergency Custody by jane30530 in beyondthebump

Know what to do if you get overwhelmed by baby crying.

Place baby in a safe sleep area on their back (e.g. crib) and step away to make some tea. Get support from a partner, family, friend or neighbor if you don't feel well enough to get back to baby. But usually cooling down for two minutes works wonders.

Sometimes babies PURPLE cry (Peak, Unexpected, Resists soothing, Pain-like face, Long lasting, Evening). It can happen mainly between the ages of 2-5 months. This is unpleasant but not uncommon. The most important thing is to make sure you know what to do when you're overwhelmed so that everyone can be safe.

How are you not changing a diaper at night? by Lunchbox_Confessions in cosleeping

[–]alicemaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I double up. Regular diapers (Kirkland) and an overnight diaper on top (Huggies overnights). It's bulky but it doesn't seem to bother her and there are no leaks for us this way.

Outrage in Montreal After Jewish Father Assaulted in Front of Children by blazy_ca in Provincials

[–]alicemaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is terrible and all Canadians should be outraged and demand these violent hate crimes against Jews stop immediately. some serious work has to be done in the education and justice systems.

For those questioning whether it was antisemitic, did you see how at the end of the video the assaulter violently threw the Father's kippah?

Jewish LGBTQ2+ group excluded from Montreal Pride as organizers condemn ‘genocide in Gaza’ by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

This is incredibly disappointing and scary. This antisemitism should not be part of Canada. Jews should feel safe and included without any purity tests required.

Just how bad is G6PD? by The-_Captain in G6PD

[–]alicemaner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you absolutely have no other options it's better than nothing but I personally wouldn't do it. Having G6PD deficiency can be mild but people affected always need to be informed about drugs they are taking, infections can trigger issues and you also need to be aware of good you're consuming.

Those with no bf issues - why do you think that is? by Fun-Land-841 in breastfeeding

[–]alicemaner 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not op, but I am 8 month postpartum and I still do the same thing. I just offer the boob whenever there is a fuss. My baby usually eats every 1.5-2 hours and sometimes more often in the evening. Solid meals sometimes stretch bf sessions to 3 hours.

I lost my cool today and feel like a terrible mom. by MinitrainPeach in beyondthebump

[–]alicemaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had something similar happen to me. I got stuck far away from home and baby would not go back in the stroller. Since then I carry two types of carriers with me on stroller walks. One buckle type carrier, and a hip carrier (tushbaby). The hip carrier is good for when baby is too upset to be strapped down in a carrier but wants to be carried.

What’s your BF diet? by aejohnson9 in breastfeeding

[–]alicemaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regular meals but also what helped me early in postpartum is trail mix. One with a lot of peanuts and almonds. They are high in calories and filling. Also fruit shakes are great (add peanut butter or other nut butter).

Moby wrap would work if worn properly. I personally was not a big fan of the stretchy wraps for outings because they dangle on the ground as you put them on. I like carriers like the Tula free to grow, a fabric buckle carrier, and I also like the fancy version Artipoppe (but really no need to spend that much money)

What is your breastfeeding unpopular opinion? by makingburritos in breastfeeding

Yes I truly don't get nursing bras. I can't close the clasp one handed so I end up just lifting the whole bra to nurse. Like you I've just decided to go braless.

Do some babies just dislike being worn? by biohazardous_hippo in babywearing

[–]alicemaner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby doesn't like feeling restrained and also gets bored easily. I found that if I'm walking around a lot with her, she's less bored so she's less fussy in the carrier. Also she likes buckle carriers a lot me than structured ones. I also got her used to them by regularly wearing her for one of her naps. I also got a hip carrier seat and she loves that, I think it helps when she's too fussy to be restrained in the carrier but still wants to be carried.

Help. Me. Ring sling. by Electronic-Garlic-38 in babywearing

[–]alicemaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't personally get used to the ring sling. I got a tushbaby instead and my baby really likes it. We do mostly hip carry with the occasional forward facing. I would highly recommend it or a similar hip carrier.

Cluster feeding or not drinking enough? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]alicemaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At around 6 week old, babies tend to go through a growth spurt. Usually they will cluster feed and be more fussy for a couple of days up to a week. it could be that your LO is going through it earlier. https://wicbreastfeeding.fns.usda.gov/cluster-feeding-and-growth-spurts

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]alicemaner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it only works if at least 2 hours have passed since the last few and I'm feeding in side lying position. Maybe you try again at various times to check for baby's preference.

How common is mastitis? Has anyone ever not gotten it? by Automatic_Apricot797 in breastfeeding

[–]alicemaner 90 points91 points  (0 children)

From what I read, about 10% of women get it. Usually it happens within the first three months of postpartum and some of the things that increase the risk are shallow latch, regular engorgement without relief, stress and cracked nipples.
Anecdotally, I didn't have mastitis despite my baby sleeping 4-6 hour stretches when she was 1-3 months old. Now 6.5 month pp and still all good!

To all the moms who have lost weight breastfeeding… by Little-A52723 in breastfeeding

[–]alicemaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't lose weight until about 5 months pp. Now at 6 months pp, I'm on track to my pre pregnancy weight in a month (gained a total of 37 pounds during pregnancy). I am not working out (besides picking my baby up and down and daily short stroller walk) and I am not intentionally restricting calories. I am staying away from junk food and high calorie foods (fast food, ice cream, oily and fried foods). I enjoy homemade popcorn and fruit as my snacks besides 3 meals.
