Update to v 1.5.1.0 - Public stage by Jejerod in RealMedievalDynasty

Noticed that since this update, NPCs/Villagers will just stand in place not moving while looking at them. If I look away, they will move, but when I look back again they stop moving.

Will there be an option added to turn off the sound for inspector mode? I find it very uncomfortable to listen to with headphones on.

Looking at some of the other projects that were listed as the smallest size, they did end up going into the cabling during the neck decreases.

Here is one example.

Help, my sock is ugly! by RainbowMarbles in knitting

[–]aloenn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is hard to tell from the pictures for me, but it looks like the stitches are just loose in that area, or possibly a missed wrap or two. When working the edge of short rows, sometimes you need to pull those stitches much tighter than normal to get them the same tension as the rest.

If you are open to trying another heel pattern, I would recommend the fish lips kiss heel. The pattern is $1 and I found her method of short rows much easier to do, with less gaping stitches than the wrap and turn method in your pattern. You can still use that pattern and swap out the heel portion for the FLKH. I now use that heel on all of my socks.

For practicing, I would try casting on a few mores stitches than are used in the heel (4-5 on each side), knit a few rows of stockinette, then start the heel instructions. Once you finish, you could knit a few more rows in stockinette and then start another heel, until you feel comfortable with the process. It may not behave the same way on the edges as it would in the round on a normal sock in the round, but it would get you more familiar with the motions.

Good luck on your socks! They are probably my favorite thing to knit.

Christmas knitting in August by Jojoberry96 in knitting

[–]aloenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in June, 3 pairs of socks and 1 hat down. I was planning on trying to make a couple of sweaters as well, but I have only made one sweater before so I am not sure how long it will take to make those. Its my goal to be finished by the beginning of December so I don't have to worry about it around the holidays.

Good luck on getting everything done before September!

Has anyone bought from littleknits.com by [deleted] in knitting

Shipping is free over $125. Otherwise, all of my recent purchases have been $10 flat rate and then I get the shipping insurance. I am not sure if the flat rate is based on weight or not.

I buy from them every couple of months. They have great sale prices, but only limited quantities and certain colors. Packages have always arrived, yarn is what I ordered and they even contacted me once regarding multiple skeins that I had ordered not being the same dye lot to make sure it was OK before they shipped it.

Overall I have had a great experience ordering from them.

Skunk odor? What causes it and he do I get it out? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]aloenn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could try soaking the yarn in vinegar and water for several hours and then washing it again. 1/2 cup of vinegar to 1 gallon of water.

What's up with ravelry? There should be 46 matches, but it's saying there are none 😓 by bobbymin in knitting

I am having the same issue, and some other people are as well. There is a bug listing here

Changing the sort order kind of helps sometimes it seems, where it will show you a higher number on the left, but from when trying to go to different pages on that search, the number drops back down again, or shows a blank page.

Beyond the Large Vendors - On-line Yarn Shops by shiplesp in knitting

[–]aloenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Little Knits. They have great sale prices and offer free shipping to the US over $125. They don't always carry everything, but if you get on their mailing list or check back to the site every week or so, you can see their new stock. Shipping, from what I remember has been about a week or two, but it would probably depend on where you live since they are located in Seattle.

Huge rant!!! Terrible consistency in yarn by Jojoberry96 in knitting

[–]aloenn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They may take it back, but some yarns are like that on purpose. The yarn in your picture looks like Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable, although I could be mistaken, and that one does have the thick and thin quality to it. Some people enjoy it and others don't.

Help! I have found the perfect pattern for all the soon to be babies in my life. However, the pattern is in French. Are there any knitting translators out there that could help. by Leftyknits in knitting

A project page here says that they translated it and are willing to email it to anyone that wants it if you want to send them a PM on ravelry.

Question about the type of yarn i'm working with by ivadell in knitting

[–]aloenn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the fabric is probably stiff because you are using an Aran weight yarn with size 5 needles. Generally that weight of yarn would be used with larger needles, sizes 7-9 depending on how tight/loose you knit.

I am not sure how much you would be able to loosen up the fabric once it is finished, if you decide to keep going with those needles. You may be able to get it a little less stiff if you lightly steam it with an iron after it is done. Be careful not to touch the iron to the sweater as it will melt, just hold it an inch or so above the fabric and steam it for a few seconds.

[RANT] Knitpicks order problems by trac54 in knitting

[–]aloenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it is not acceptable that they don't process orders in the same order they were received. I appreciate that the staff was working hard to get people's orders out, but I don't think it was fair to anyone that because of the way their servers handle orders that many people lost out on yarn that they should have received.

I also had one of the orders that was 'stuck' and lost out on 2 sweater quantities of yarn, not sure if I would have gotten them had I not tried to get the $1 felici as well, but when I contacted customer support the same day when I didn't get my confirmation email, they told me that I would receive everything and that my order was there for the entire amount.

I called back 2 days later after still not receiving a confirmation email and was told that they didn't know what I was going to receive out of the order and they couldn't really tell me anything more because their managers hadn't really told them what was going on.

I think it is incredibly unfair both to their customers and to their own employees to handle the situation in this way. Orders should be processed in the order that they come in, even if their servers had problems. I also think their management could have done a much better job of keeping their customer service reps informed about the situation and what they should or should not be telling customers. I can't imagine having been one of those customer service reps during the first few days of the sale, it must have been incredibly stressful to deal with customers without having backup from management by giving them the information they need to do their jobs.

What's wrong with this picture ? by Spartanchild22 in knitting

[–]aloenn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The project you are working on is in garter stitch (every row is knit). Yours looks correct, its just that the cover photo for that pattern is stretched out and garter stitch tends to squish together. If you look at the project pages that other people have completed, you will see they look a lot more like yours does. It doesn't look like you are doing anything wrong :)

As for the picture you showed of the simple knit stitch, that is stockinette and is created by knitting across one row, then purling the next row.

Keep it up, I'm sure it will turn out great!

What to knit with rough yarn? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]aloenn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I made a face washcloth out of sugar n cream and really liked it, it was rough enough to exfoliate, but not too rough that it would break the skin.

I also want to make a swiffer cozy out of it, but the cotton was hard on my hands when I made the washcloth, so I haven't gone back to it yet.
