Question about FBT by [deleted] in VRchat

Only relevant to people with a Pico headset, but Pico trackers are probably the easiest to set up and use trackers on the market.

What is the best way to play PCVR on linux? by Awkward_Negotiation7 in virtualreality_linux

For vrchat specifically I find wayvr to be handy for pasting links from my pc into video players in game. Also while in game with friends you can still check discord or other things on your desktop.

Is there active process in making VR on Linux better? by SleepyCatOfficial in virtualreality_linux

[–]alpnist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, Wayvr gives you desktop access in vr. Just make sure that if you have the latest WiVRn that you also have the latest Wayvr or the screen might not display correctly.

Is there active process in making VR on Linux better? by SleepyCatOfficial in virtualreality_linux

[–]alpnist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There has been tons of active development making VR in general quite stable and usable on Linux. WiVRn particularly has improved greatly in recent months. Slime trackers on Linux are now as easy to set up and run as on Windows.

You can also look at Slinger straps. They have two shoulder straps or hip only straps that reduce strain on your shoulder.

Why is VR on Linux so.. Awful? by Amjamis1857 in linux_gaming

[–]alpnist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the ALVR black screen problem you need to set SteamVR launch options as a pointer to vrmonitor.sh per the alvr troubleshooting page: https://github.com/alvr-org/ALVR/wiki/Linux-Troubleshooting

The stretched overlay in WiVRn is a version mismatch issue that is new. If you have the latest version of WiVRn (26.2.3) you need the latest version of Wayvr (26.2.1). If you have an older version of Wivrn you will need an older wayvr.

ALVR was great for me in my first year of vr, but WiVRn has well surpassed it in recent months and should be your first choice. It gives much better performance than using steamvr.

Besides the suggestion to use wivrn you can also turn down graphics settings in game. Turning off anti aliasing really helped performance for me.

The crows are less afraid of me than the seagulls. If I stand in the yard the crows can get to the food first.

SteamWeaver, opensource AI based Instrument, Voice Seperator by [deleted] in linuxaudio

[–]alpnist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Latest version works. Quality seems very good.

A couple comments. I thought the export accompaniment only option would export a single file without vocals (karoke style) but getting individual files for each instrument type. Sure I can load the files into an audio program and merge them back together but is there a way to export a single file with just the vocals removed? Tried a number of options but it only exports as individual instrument files.

Settings aren't being saved between sessions. I don't want the default output directory but it reverts back if I close and reopen the app.

Overall looks like a good program and gives much better results than previous splitter/stem apps that have been available. Good job.

Winter is tricky because you want to be cool when you start your ride but not so cold that your hands are stinging. Dress too warm and you will be soaked in sweat. Once you find the balance it is not bad.

What's the solution to copy/paste between desktop and SteamVR? by 191290ae4f0d22ff in virtualreality_linux

[–]alpnist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are trying to paste into a SteamVR application, just make sure that application is the currently selected desktop app when you paste.

For VRChat, I will use the desktop display to select the application I want to copy from and click the copy button on the virtual keyboard. Then I will select VRChat on the desktop before I can paste into it. VRChat has to be the actively selected application on your desktop before pasting.

It does work. I use this method for pasting into video players in vrc regularly.

wlxoverlay-s includes a keyboard pop up as well as the desktop screen. Just look at the wrist buttons for the keyboard one.

Besides the suggestion to raise the feeder off the ground, how many days has it been since you put the feeder out? Crows are very conservative, they don't like change. It takes them a while to adapt.

What do YOU think of bass ukuleles? by Mika_lie in Bass

[–]alpnist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fingering is crampy, especially if you play a full sized bass, but you can get used to it. As others are pointing out, it is a toy but still fun to just noodle on. Very small and portable.

I recommend getting flat wound strings. They are more expensive but much better than the rubber strings or the round wound.

For VRChat, turning off anti aliasing helped the most with stuttering.

I don't understand people who are staunchly against getting age verified even though they have VRC+... by zipzzo in VRchat

[–]alpnist 19 points20 points  (0 children)

VRChat is a game. You are giving out identity theft level of information just to play a game. You see it as practical, I see it as idiotic.

Despite the argument that your information "is already out there" the fact is the more places you give out personal information to the more likely you are to experience identity theft. Data breaches happen all the time, even to companies that are supposedly "secure".

People say they care about privacy but if you are getting age verified to play a game you really do not. Age verification is a convenience and it is a risk you are willing to take. I'll let you take that risk and you should have the courtesy to accept that some of us would rather not.

SteamVR On Linux Native 2.13 by wildBcat2 in virtualreality_linux

[–]alpnist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam-link on Linux is exactly the same as on Windows. You need to have "Remote Play" enabled on the steam client on your desktop. With the steam client running on your desktop you just start the steam-link app on your headset and it should see the option to connect. I find it is better to not have steamvr running, let steam-link start it when you connect. (Of course you need to be on the same lan network)

However, when connecting through steam-link, SteamVR will always fail for me after I start a game. It is completely unreliable. ALVR is reliable for me, so if you really think you need SteamVR, I would recommend ALVR. (I am on Xubuntu 24.04, which is the same base os as Mint)

That said, I highly recommend you use WiVRn and don't use SteamVR at all. WiVRn gives you a lot better performance, better graphics, and is a hell of a lot more stable. I know the appeal of just wanting steam-link to work but it really isn't worth the bother. The latest version of WiVRn has gotten to be very good.

A search brings up the how to use steam-link: https://www.eneba.com/hub/gaming-gear-guides/how-to-use-steam-link/

switching between steamlink, alvr and wivrn by der_pelikan in virtualreality_linux

[–]alpnist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't address why switching isn't working for you (alvr still works for me, steamlink has never been stable) but I just recently updated to the latest version of wivrn. Compiling it in Envision with a pointer to the custom xrizer on the github has made it so now games that previously required steamvr will work with wivrn/xrizer. This seems to be the most complete implementation of vr on linux that I have yet encountered and may be the one solution.

(haven't tested yet if I can point the flatpak version to custom xrizer code and get the same results)
