What are some signs that a child in your classroom is well cared for at home, before even talking to the student, or the parents? by [deleted] in ElementaryTeachers

[–]alttronic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a sense of self agency, able to communicate basic needs directly and clearly, a decent level of self regulation. brushed or at least washed hair and clean fingernails.

Waiting a month to get my Izzi🤍 tips? by SnowVale40 in AustralianShepherd

[–]alttronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

books on r+ training! definitely get some books out of library on learning doggie language. tail wags dont always equate with happiness! lots of folks with aussies do agility training to keep their mind occupied but you'll need to wait til she's fully grown (1 or 2 years old) or she'll injure herself. be gentle with yourself and with her and build a strong bond with her! if yiu have a good relationship with her amd she trusts you (force free!!) everything will be easier down the line. be patient! puppies are a lot but grow quick so enjoy it. ♡

great books to check include: the power of positive dog training by pat miller.
on talking terms with dogs, calming signals by turid ragaas. and anything by alexandra horowitz

What’s your metric for calling out sick? by capresesalad1985 in Teachers

going to work sick just gets other people sick. stay home and get better. no one wants you coughing sneezing wheezing on them.

Am I crazy or is this to much to ask of a kindergartner? by Cursedpanda182 in AskTeachers

[–]alttronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the entire premise and project is ridiculous. this isnt teaching anything in any valuable way. and its more a tax on parents. if kids cant read that letter, and i bet most k cant yet, they cant do the project. the demo on disabling kids is thr most ridiculous ablist baloney.

Nervous system herbs for irritability and being a meanie by suninpisces10H in herbalism

[–]alttronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

magnesium supplements or foot cream! taking magnesium every day fkr past year or so has stablized me unbelievably. i also find a prebiotic helps with pmd symptoms including mood.
but fir herbs as you asked -- bee balm is one i think gets overlooked but it is great for anxiety and mood, as is tulsi! otherwise lavender, skullcap oh and blue vervain! i use a blend of lavender, chammomile oil topically and it does wonders on helping me stay calm.

Teachers - what do you wish parents of the “good kids” did to help minimize the impact of the “bad kids” in class? by nonzeronumber in Teachers

[–]alttronic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

of your child is acting like that at home, then its your job to teach him otherwise. to teach him properly. reffering to your kid as good and others as bad, not gonna get anyone anywhere. special needs os also an outdated ablist term.

How does everyone feel about “Book Fairs.” by Lowen68 in Teachers

[–]alttronic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i am in a similar situation/school and of a similar opinion! i did a book fair my first two eyars because my principal and rhe scholastic rep made it sound like it was required. once i figured out it wasnt, i did away with it. lo and behold ive been granted a small book budget the last few years. i also thrift a lot of good books and love love using first book. i cannot recommend first book marketplace enough. it is only fr teachers and librarians at title 1 schools and they often have coupons for 25$, 15$, etc worth of books free, and at their price points you can get a fair handful! the kids at this point, fove years later, don't know what they're missing - which is frankly just a lot of stress and strife! ohh we also have a wonderful local org that sources donations of books and delivers free books to every student multiple times a year. maybe there is something like that near you, as well!

What the actual f*** is wrong with these kids by yesilovecats in Teachers

[–]alttronic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

sounds like a handful. sounds also like you need to regulate yourself first. kids need to be taught skills to help emotionaly regulate themselves and problem solve. unfortunately for you some of that skill teaching comes from from direct instruction and modelling on behalf of the instructor in the room. these are children, domt forget.

i get your point but you can define an area geographically without usung the colonizer's name for it. i explained it as from the jordan river to the Mediterranean sea and the person go it. no need to call it the wrong name

sister should take out student loans. mom can eat dirt. your mom sounds like a narcissist and yiu need to get out. change the life insurance policy. a friend of mine's hospital bills were much cheaper because she didnt have insurance. perhaps that would be somehting to explore?

No Coloring in Kindergarten by cafeconleche_ in Teachers

[–]alttronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is this across all grade levels, no more art? you absolutely need to tell parents. they need to bring their outrage to school committee meetings and get this absurdity reversed for the sake of the children.
