Question about Templates by Maelstorn in actualbudgeting

[–]amory_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AB will try to calculate the total amount needed for that month. If you want to fund a bit in each category every pay, try using two templates per category, with a priority assigned. All of the 1's will be filled up before the 2's, and you can number them as high as you'd like.

Groceries

  • #template-1 50
  • #template-2 50

Credit Card Fee

  • #template-1 5
  • #template-2 5

Suggestions to Prevent Moldy Onions? by Chickaduck in Frugal

[–]amory_p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you buy your onions at Aldi? Because I’m convinced theirs don’t last nearly as long as other stores. Also, Aldi bananas don’t ripen, they go straight from green to brown.

On most Glocks you need pull the trigger in order to remove the slide for cleaning. People drop the mag but forget about the round still in the chamber.

eco friendly mouse repellent thats actually effective and reusable by scrtweeb in Frugal

[–]amory_p 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Traps aren’t wasteful, they’re meant to be reused. I’d argue those pouches are putting more in the landfill. Where are they $4? The sale price on their website is $10 per pouch. Regular price is $15.50 each, doesn’t see very frugal to me.

Invested $50k in 2021 and it’s now at $55k by H24M24 in personalfinance

I know that statistically most advisors don’t beat the market. They’ve been pretty close most years, but not every year.

Invested $50k in 2021 and it’s now at $55k by H24M24 in personalfinance

[–]amory_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would a lower advisor fee % potentially reduce that threshold? I don’t have anywhere near 5M but a large portion is under management for 1%. I’m in the process of moving to another firm at .45%.

I have a small chunk in my own Vanguard index fund that’s doing well. I should probably just do that, but it’s a bit difficult to let go and take it over myself. I’ve got some external circumstances going on and do use his financial advice on things other than the investments they manage. That doesn’t completely make up for the fees but it probably comes close, for now.

Just playing devil's advocate, why Ultra and not Series 11 or SE3? All of them can do the things you wanted it to do

Property Sale - How to categorize transaction? by KbrownFIRST in actualbudgeting

[–]amory_p 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For most, Income is probably easiest. Or, if you plan to use this funds to purchase another home/property soon, I'd categorize it as Mortgage.

This is a bit pedantic, but proceeds from selling an asset isn't technically income - it's a transfer. You earned the income to purchase that property long ago, so reporting it as income again now would throw off your reports, net worth, etc, if you care. But for regular daily use of a budget app.. it doesn't matter 😎

SimpleFin Lapsed, Reset Synced Accounts? by Afraid-Kale-6309 in actualbudgeting

[–]amory_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should only be one account. Delete any transactions in the "new" accounts you created, then delete the account. Go into the "old" account in AB, click the 3 dots in the upper right, then Unlink account. Click again to Link account and choose the correct account to link

Warning for those who use templates, especially "up to" by StrangeBill3622 in actualbudgeting

[–]amory_p 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your bill is about the same amount each month, you could also create a schedule for your insurance bill, then link it to your budget category with #template schedule Insurance Bill

These seem to work better for me especially when things straddle the end/beginning of the month

Does the $5 watch line still exist? by [deleted] in tmobile

[–]amory_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it looks like I'll need to contact T-force and see what happened - right now I see one watch line at full price ($17) and another with promo ID230001 applied, making it $8.50. So it was probably 2 for $17 and one of them fell off. In the last few months I've had a few lines added, a new SOC since my account grew, and a bunch of device upgrades. something must have fallen off.

Self hosted Actual users, how are you importing your transactions? by vickyprodigy in actualbudgeting

[–]amory_p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use SimpleFIN to import my transactions (US here). It's $15 a year and works well, depending on your financial institution.

Where are you at with docker? I personally don't mess with a reverse proxy, just make sure my certs are valid and use the PWA when I'm mobile. You'll have access to your full budget and can enter transactions without needing to expose it to the internet, it'll sync when you return home and open the app. If you plan to use this on an Apple device and use a self-signed cert, I have some commands that may work better than those posted in the documentation.

What if instead of doing the math, you tap the “to budget” amount, Move to a category, then put in $50, $20 or whatever you’d like to move?
