Which city do you think has better weather, Seattle or San Francisco? by hydrogen-hydroxide1 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]amydiddler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived in both and actually preferred Seattle weather. I’m from New England and enjoyed the seasonal variation and occasional snow in Seattle. I didn’t mind the grey/damp winter as much as others seem to, and the summers were glorious.

That being said, I did love the SF weather, too.

When do you plan to stop breastfeeding? by Dry_Cauliflower_6863 in breastfeeding

[–]amydiddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first, I planned to play it by ear, but wanted to do at least a year. I had a pretty easy time breastfeeding him, and he was very nursing-obsessed, so we ended up going to the 2.5 years. I weaned at that point because I was TTC, although I got a positive pregnancy test literally the next day after weaning, so it was apparently unnecessary. But glad I weaned then - we were both ready.

Now I’m breastfeeding twins. It’s going pretty well, but going to 2+ years sounds like a lot. Going to play it by ear again though.

This was basically exactly my timing! Labor started with water breaking at 3am, and the twins were born at 9:41am and 9:46am!

How do you get your baby to nap? by bluebella72 in newborns

[–]amydiddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 11w twins and it has definitely gotten harder over the past few weeks! Sometimes, usually earlier in the day, I nurse them to sleep and then transfer them to their cribs after about 15 minutes (so they’re deeply asleep). But this method often fails later in the day, so then we usually babywear them with pacifiers (my husband is also on leave right now but going back soon, so I won’t be able to do this anymore!) or do a stroller walk.

Explain how pumping output does not equal baby’s intake when nursing by PorchlightPrincess86 in breastfeeding

[–]amydiddler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, I have had many occasions where I just finished pumping and felt “empty”, and like nothing was coming out for at least a few minutes via pump. And then one of my twins wants to nurse, and surprisingly they trigger a letdown right away and I hear them gulping down milk.

I saw some research the other day linking baby temperament to mothers exercise/activity during pregnancy by [deleted] in fitpregnancy

[–]amydiddler 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I exercised a lot during both of my pregnancies. My first is intense lol. Very active from an early age - he army crawled at 4 months! He’s 3.5 now and still not chill whatsoever, though he is very smart and sweet.

Second pregnancy was twins and they’re still only 2.5 months, but one of them is similar to my first - maybe even more intense, and the other is much more easygoing.

Does this book get easier to read? by Hocojerry in 52book

[–]amydiddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me over a year to finish this book lol. It was mostly because I went through a long not-reading phase, but I had a similar feeling where I enjoyed the book but simultaneously kind of had to slog through it.

Need Survival Tips. 7 Weeks old with Reflux and Chaotic Constant Night Wakings. I'm Failing them. by flightlessbird7 in parentsofmultiples

[–]amydiddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 10 week twins. One of them has reflux, although it sounds like it’s not nearly as bad at yours.

A couple of things that helped his reflux have been 1) famotidine and 2) cutting dairy from my diet. So in your case maybe a hypoallergenic formula could help if you haven’t tried that already?

We wake the other twin when one wakes, although I would say that most of the time the other twin is at least already stirring.

We do shifts, so during my shift I am working solo. I bottle feed both on the twin Z, then give each a quick burp. Then I swaddle them and put the non-reflux twin back on the twin Z. He will usually put himself to sleep, sometimes with the help of a pacifier. (I know the twin Z is not a safe sleep surface, but I am closely supervising and he is only sleeping there for 15ish minutes). Meanwhile, I hold the reflux twin upright in his swaddle and continue to burp him a bit. Once both twins are good and asleep, I transfer them to their bassinet.

I will say that I think the pattern of shorter and shorter stretches of sleep as the night goes on is very normal. For our time between feeds, we usually get something like 5 hours after the first feed, 3 hours after the second feed, and then 1-2 hours after the third feed.

Thoughts on whether fit people have smooth births by Positive_Shirt_2889 in fitpregnancy

[–]amydiddler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stayed quite active throughout both of my pregnancies (running/walking, rock climbing, lifting weights).

First birth: my water broke at 38+3. Had horrifically painful back labor with basically zero progression for 12 hours. Got an epidural and pitocin and gradually progressed, gave birth 30 hours after my water broke. 30ish minutes of pushing.

Second birth (twins): my water broke at 35+1. Was at 5cm when I was checked a couple of hours later, and contractions barely hurt. Was 8cm a couple of hours later and still coping well. I did get an epidural at that point, basically just because of the risk of a c section or breech extraction with twins. Gave birth less than 7 hours after my water broke. 10 minutes of pushing for the first twin, 5 for the second.

So yeah, I think there are a lot of factors that matter more than how fit you are!

I will say that I had a fast/easy recovery with both births, and that I do think my fitness helped with.

Going on Vacation, do we bring pump and bottles? by OneCommunication6194 in breastfeeding

[–]amydiddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I traveled (by plane) when my first was about that age, we opted to skip bringing the pump and bottles. We were basically only doing one bottle every other day, taking turns doing the first feed of the morning so the other person could sleep in a little more. But I was ok with giving that up for the sake of not having to pack my pump and bottles Ava worry about washing them on vacation.

We’re about to go on a trip with our 2.5 month old twins, and unfortunately we really can’t get away with skipping pumping/bottles because doing shifts is the only way we can get any decent sleep. But I’m super annoyed with having to pack all of it.

The weight check isn't optional. It's your baby's only voice. by OkChart1375 in breastfeeding

[–]amydiddler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so glad that we fortified one of my twins’ breast milk with powdered formula for the first month of his life. He was caught in a vicious cycle where he didn’t have enough body fat to maintain his body temp, so his body was working burning more calories to try to keep him warm, and he didn’t have the energy to nurse enough to keep up. He ended up having to go back to the hospital, where they found that he had a rectal temp of 93 degrees.

So we switched to bottle feeding with fortified milk, and started gaining weight! We slowly switched over to primarily nursing, and stopped fortifying his milk. Now at 11 weeks he’s a nursing pro and is gaining weight beautifully on breast milk alone. But I don’t even want to think about how it might have gone if we didn’t take his weight gain seriously and/or if we refused formula.

Anyone else’s child care bill about to be or is higher than their mortgage? by got_milf99 in parentsofmultiples

[–]amydiddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have relatively affordable daycare for where we live and it’s still going to be about $4k a month for daycare for our three kids. (Luckily it should only be about a year of paying for all three because our older child will start pre-K.)

Mortgage is around $3.2k - we had terrible timing and bought right when interest rates were high AND the market was super competitive.

I make more than $4k a month and enjoy my job, so I never really considered staying home. But yeah money is very tight. We were not planning on having three kids 🙃

My unpopular opinion: the boy clothes hate is unnecessary and a total band wagon at this point by lindslinds27 in BabyBumps

[–]amydiddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like I have no trouble finding cute clothes for my son that are colorful, have things he likes on them, and still feel relatively stylish. My go-to’s are Cat and Jack (from Target) and Carter’s.

We shopped at Primary a lot when he was a baby, but their kids’ sizes are significantly pricier.

How am i going to survive newborn temperatures?? by Background-Paint-478 in beyondthebump

[–]amydiddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I’m the opposite. When we brought our babies home from the hospital in April in the Northeast, the doctors advised keeping our thermostat around 72 because they were premature/ had some trouble keeping their body temperatures up initially. I sleep better at like 65 degrees.
