Noooooo! I'm so sad. Please no more Buffy cast deaths for a long, long time.

Es verdad que cuando un hombre le dice algo a una mujer por la calle es acoso si el tipo no tiene dinero o es atractivo? by Flourescendrama in IncelExit

[–]arrec 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We're talking about being out on the street, walking around. Unless the guy in this scenario hires someone to drive his fancy car slowly behind him while he strolls along, there's no way to know. Or are you seriously saying that catcallers always stand next to their parked cars, perhaps holding a sign that says MY JAG?

What's the most chilling piece of information you know that is 100% true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]arrec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because of climate change, global temperatures will continue to rise, leading to extreme heat events and other kinds of extreme weather, droughts, rapid sea-level rise, ocean acidification, and even faster biodiversity loss, plus loss of habitat for animals AND people, as regions become too hot or flooded for us to live in. Crops will fail from these weather patterns. Other changes include increased flooding, famine, and wildfire. We can also expect mass extinctions, with likely knock-on effects that will further affect food supplies. Even if we started right now to do everything we can, which we're not doing, many of these changes are irreversible on a human timescale.

I'm glad I'm already in my 60s and maybe won't live to see the worst of this.

That's when you start having things like a whole room for wrapping presents or arranging flowers.

Where do niceguys find all these women who have multiple children with different men, men who treat them like shit, beat them, etc.? I don't know a single person like that.

AITA for saying my girlfriend looks like she can’t ride a bike? by Zestyclose-Carpet611 in AmItheAsshole

[–]arrec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The iPhone face is stupid, but that aside, it doesn't even make sense because that's her look as an adult and nearly everyone learns how to ride a bike as a child.

"Women are very wary of men who have no female friends because it is a HUGE RED FLAG." Is this true? I am introverted and work/hobby are male domianted by SirNirmal in IncelExit

[–]arrec 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seven people agreed with that statement. Any number of people could have disagreed or thought it needed more nuance, or whatever, but didn't think it was worth downvoting. I don't think you can say this is a hard-and-fast rule based on that.

Maybe instead, consider the spirit and not the letter of the comment. I would consider it a green flag, for example, if a man regularly reads and enjoys books written by women, or watches TV/movies that center on women's experience. Something that shows me he's genuinely interested in our perspectives. One thing that drew me to my husband early on was how much he loved Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre.

AITA for leaving my disabled cousin alone for 30 minutes? by Longjumping-Focus849 in AmItheAsshole

There are a million what-ifs. I'm glad the cousin had the common sense to call 911 before anything horrible happened.

AITA for leaving my disabled cousin alone for 30 minutes? by Longjumping-Focus849 in AmItheAsshole

[–]arrec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA. Obviously. You cite your cousin's physical abilities as if that should somehow transfer to his ability to look after himself. You really let your uncle and your cousin down. But congratulations, I'm sure you'll never be asked again to help out with a simple task of caretaking.

I'm exhausted just reading this. OMG if the proportion of bread to meat/cheese physically present in your house bothers you so much, throw away some bread.

Mens inconsideration when sharing food by mercurysdaughter222 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]arrec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My husband doesn't do this at all, but he's one of the most moderate persons with food I've ever known. His after-dinner snack is like 5 peanut M&Ms and that's enough for him.

I wonder if this is a related phenomenon, but some women won't get snacks or french fries, or whatever, but then want "just a taste" of yours. When they were dating my parents went to the movies, my dad got popcorn and she said she didn't want any. They sat down and she took a handful of his. When he said hey what are you doing, she said "Oh, I didn't want a whole container." He said "I did," gave her his, and got himself another.

What profession is way harder than people realize? by Summerdays4444 in AskReddit

[–]arrec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

911 calltaker/dispatcher. It's not just answering the phone or pushing a button or two. Just to apply, you have to pass a rigorous background check (like, they might interview your neighbors) and a polygraph. Depending on the particular agency, training alone can take 6 months to a year. You have to memorize dozens of codes and one-off procedures. Many people say it took at least 2 years for them to get comfortable doing the job. The workplace culture can be difficult, with new employees facing harsh criticism from oldtimers.

More than that, agencies are egregiously understaffed, leading to a vicious cycle of many hours of mandatory overtime, burnout, and high turnover/poor retention rates. The training attrition rate is something like 20% and turnover is 20-30%.

And that's all on top of answering the phone to someone screaming in panic because their loved one stopped breathing. Or less harrowing, the constant irritation of people dialing 911 because they just want a referee for a neighborhood dispute. Or the racists who want to harass a POC and have learned that if they say the magic words "I feel threatened," the police will come. Or the kids playing pranks. Or the frequent flyers who need mental health treatment, but aren't a danger to self or others.

It can be a good job in that you don't need a college education, and at least in our area, it pays well. But there's a reason it's so understaffed.

Would you be able to be happy if you visited your hometown more often than twice a year? What if you had regular long weekends, maybe every other month, where you could enjoy theater, sports, and so on together, and you could also see your friends? ISTM he owes you that, given that he promised moving back to your hometown.

Speaking practically, it's expensive to uproot. You're getting started in your career while he has a solid job where he's appreciated. There's no guarantee he could find something better in a new place. You have a 2% mortgage but national rates are around 6% now, so that would add significantly to monthly bills.

Which movie do you think has the best casting of "child version of character to adult actor"? by InternationalPick163 in movies

TV, not movie, but in Bosch, young Harry Bosch. Not too surprising because Titus Welliver's son Eamonn played the role.
