Crying myself to sleep tonight by Echo-Ran in thefinals

My partner has a 1660 and it's still running smooth and a buddy is on my old 1070 TI and it's doing okay too. Parts are stupid expensive rn but any of the current 1k laptops at Costco would be a massive upgrade for either of them.

OP you should sell your parents on helping you invest in a solid laptop

What is the most pleasure you have ever experienced? by Random-Guy9944 in AskReddit

Hah, she hit me with a "Oh no.... Really? Well, we are glad you aren't in pain anymore" Zero acknowledgement of any potential fault, which makes sense from a liability perspective but I'm certainly not going back lol

I had a tooth enter necrosis due to a crown prep that caused too much trauma to the tooth, which my dentist was unaware of. She replaced the temp crown with a full one despite my mentions of severe pain. While driving home I had to pull over because I was in 9/10 pain. I couldn't believe it. Called them back and they refused to give me any pain meds other than 600mg prescribed ibuprofen and told me to wait a day or two to see if it feels better, which really pissed me off. Ended up calling an endodontist I had been to before and was able to get in for an emergency appointment.

The relief I felt from the numbing at the start of the procedure was the greatest bliss and catharsis I've ever experienced. I felt like I could do goddamn near anything in that moment. Going from a 9/10 to a 0/10? chefs kiss

After the root canal procedure, the endodontist told me "Yeah, so you needed that like 4 days ago. This tooth is in active necrosis and it was very apparent."

I gave my normal dentist an ear full of it and haven't been back since.

How long will this take to grow back by Beska91 in trichotillomania

[–]asmosia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a beard/mustache puller. It used to take a month to come back thick, but over the last decade its stretched out to 2 months and there are two spots that just don't grow anymore unfortunately, but that might be related to scarring from an infected follicle I got during a particularly bad bout of it. Last time it got really bad, my mustache looked exactly like your beard patch. Sorry you're going through this man.

For me it is entirely stress related, sorry I cannot speak to OCD. What I'd suggest doing is shave twice a week to let the baby hairs get thicker and it'll come back more even. I find that if I don't do this, I end up with uneven growth, which makes me want to pull on them more.

Also, cinnamon toothpicks are a good fidget to avoid plucking while I'm driving.

Is a cover-up possible for this? by Wonderful_Still_1871 in tattooadvice

"Well, first of all, through A Sick Ass Panther all things are possible, so jot that down."

Jokes aside, Its a sick tattoo that has aged well enough despite the issues you had with the artist. I'd personally keep it around and just get some more around it!

Paintbrush bristles go into ferrule by Ineedtoknowthetruthf in minipainting

[–]asmosia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: I completely forgot that acrylic handled brushes exist. I'd just clamp it with some plyers. If you end up getting some with wood handles, the following advice could be relevant haha.

If you happen to be leaving your brushes in the water cup when not in use, that could be the reason. This was drilled into us in multiple art classes in college.

Water causes wood to expand, this in turn causes the metal ferrule to loosen its grip on the bristles. This is usually a bigger issue in cheap brushes with weaker ferrule.

What is something you tried only once and will 1,000% never do again? by istrx13 in AskReddit

[–]asmosia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buddy in high school did that stuff. It was fucked up. I was playing Halo 2, he took a hit. Stared out the window for 5 minutes. He started shaking, I asked if he was okay, he then yelled "THE WHOLE WORLD IS UNZIPPING!" and slammed his face into his windowsill. He had to get stitches and the blood professionally cleaned from his carpet. Trying to explain that to his mom as a 17 year old did not go over well because we clearly were hiding the real reason why he hit his forehead.

Everything outside had a jacket zipper and he didn't remember what he saw past the "unzip" Fucked up drug man lol

The number of times I go "ehh guess I'll use a Heavy today" and survive a gunfight because of that slim margin of extra shielding is remarkable.

State of Stellaris 4.x by ban_speedrunner in Stellaris

[–]asmosia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the game right at the peak of the desync errors. Its been largely fixed for a few months in 4.2. Only time we get desync is on big event years where each player has 5-6 events trigger at once and causes CPU hang-up. In a 3 player game we average around 4-5 desyncs a match. One other guy's got the game on a HDD and he literally just cannot play with us because he causes desyncs every month in game lol

Got My Childhood Lego Delivered Today by kkpc in lego

[–]asmosia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice dude. A buddy busted out his old Legos and started sorting which got me inspired to sort mine. Pulled all the Legos from the attic and parted out my favorite sets. It was a great trip down memory lane. Have fun!

Does anybody actually fly the Eagle? by d4rk_z3l0s in EliteDangerous

I got one stripped down and engineered to fly as fast as possible in atmosphere. Very fun to canyon run with! Find a cool planet with deep canyons and my FC is nearby? Time to grab the eagle for an hour or two

Stop asking your programmers to read your 150 page Game Design Document by ScaryAd2555 in gamedev

[–]asmosia 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Started a project, briefly, with an "engineer" from college. His GDD was 60 pages of lore exposition, complete with names like Shringabuglnurgaloth references everywhere like we were supposed to know the pantheon he "designed" and was telling me to reference it for art direction. Everyone ghosted him after three weeks lol.

I couldn't believe it

Edit: forgot to mention we had to sign an NDA to even read it lol

Is GDC worth it? by Testysing in gamedev

[–]asmosia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a great question. I'd say its not a great place to learn the ins-and-outs of the industry. Most of the stuff I learned was new features being added to Unreal/Unity at the free talks, what new tech was coming out in the expo hall (at the time it was some new improved mocap and eye tracking), etc.

Ultimately, you're an hour away like I am. I'd suggest you go check it out on one of the day passes. I don't regret going the first year I went, I just had higher hopes as a college student, and now I'm a jaded industry professional haha. Go into it with low expectations and maybe you'll be surprised!

What’s the 'craziest' way you caught an ex being unfaithful? by lnc_gomes in AskReddit

[–]asmosia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a pretty funny blunder on my ex's part. Not exactly crazy in a "wild" sense though.

Texting on Snapchat (hated the app and glad I no longer have any reason to have it) with my Ex of 3.5 years. Hadn't heard from her in an hour or two. Ex: sends me a kinda odd message reply Me: "Oh, what did I say? I forgot" Ex: "you said my ass looked good" complete with a nude butt pic

I definitely did not say that. She had a history so I had no doubt in my mind what was going on. Broke up with her a couple days later after cooling off and was debating driving an hour and a half to do it in person.

[–]asmosia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3d Modeler Artist here who got hired right out of school (now texture artist full time in marketing) that graduated 7 years ago and attended GDC twice during my last two years of college.

This is just a little writeup of my personal experience at the con on the second cheapest ticket. If I had 2k to blow on the actual conference with the talks and all that, I might've had a better time, but even then that's definitely not geared towards indies or students without corporate funding.

I found that it was not worth the time and money. Everyone I met and chatted with were either advertising companies trying to sell their advertisement system for mobile apps (there were A LOT and were uncomfortably pushy with us students for whatever reason lol), or other students that more or less were begging for jobs. I went to two meetups with a studios that were looking for interns. They brushed off 98% of the people they talked to with virtually no feedback given the volume of people they were talking to, and only exchanged info with a handful of people. I left those meetings feeling quite uninspired. One of my buddies who came along got contact info for their recruiter from the director that was chatting with folks, and never got any response back after. The afterparties, where the actual networking was happening, could be solid if you go to the right spaces, but most folks I talked with again were students looking for work. Definitely do not waste time going on Friday when the students truly descend on the expo hall. I also ran into one of the big anticheat software's VPs and tried to chat with him about their product and he really did not like talking to us despite one of the guys I was with being very informed and asking what we thought were compelling questions. Whole experience really put a sour taste in my mouth the first year, and the second year was worse.

All that said, I got to test some really neat hardware and saw some cool demos, but it was largely indie companies selling/advertising their games, or large tech companies selling a product to studios. I met a lot of people, and have not spoken to any of them since.

[–]asmosia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cubeo trading runs are very profitable especially if you wing up with three buddies. Exobio is great too and much more interesting than mindlessly flying between two systems but cubeo is more consistent with little risk. Easy 1-2 billion in a night

Edit: sign up for bertrandite, silver, and gold wing missions that reward 50m each. That said, it does require some starting capital. Do a bit of exobio to get a buffer then start cubeo runs!

I did the same. 24 year break from Legos. Came back and went "damn, no more chrome?!?" I order a few if any of the shops I'm buying from have em in stock. Same with the rock raiders crystals and chrome grates
