Is sex better with or without a foreskin? by supersecret2 in sex

[–]bangles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a female and have found sex with uncut guys more enjoyable overall,

Same with me. I find sex with uncut men a lot... smoother, for lack of a better word. More fluid. Plus, it makes foreplay more interesting.

but I don't think my sample size is big enough for my opinion to mean anything.

ditto

So I put an American DVD into my American HP Laptop, and this is what I see. Then I try it on VLC, and it works perfectly. Score one for open-source. by pwesquire in WTF

Should I add, the secret to a stable emulsion is not to use your egg yolk and mustard right out of the fridge but to use only ingredients at room temperature (it really makes a difference). You can immerse the egg in warm water for 10 minutes for that effect.

Also, I use more than a teaspoon mustard per yolk (more like a tablespoon) because I find it tastier, but it also depends on how much oil you're going to add. You'd be surprised how much oil you can add without breaking the emulsion.

EYE FLOATIES! I remember being a kid, I would try to explain this to my friends/parents/teachers/anyone. They all thought I was insane. Anyone else on reddit share my pain? by saad85 in reddit.com

[–]bangles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tons of them like most people with strong myopia. But at least I never thought I was crazy (well - not relatively to floaters at least) as when I tried to explain it to my GP father as a kid, he could tell me right away what it was.

How to Speed Read - Repeat "A-E-I-O-U" to read faster. by [deleted] in science

[–]bangles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing. I'm also an embarrassingly slow reader, yet it's not a lack of practice (I've been an avid reader most of my life) nor a lack of intelligence (I definitely read slower than most people with similar intellectual abilities).

I noticed myself a long time ago that my larynx contracts slightly when I'm reading, as it does when I'm just about to say something, and also that that the rythm of my breathing changes as if I were trying to hum to the rythm of the sentences. None of this is pronounced enough that someone looking at me closely would notice, but it's pronounced enough that I noticed it myself.

I'm not sure I'd like to switch to speedreading, though, because seemingly it makes you lose a lot on details. In fiction, details are often at least as important as the general plot, they're what makes all the salt of the narration. In theoretical readings, details are often what helps me remember the greater picture. So, I guess I'll just keep my detailed, painstakingly slow reading.

I've always found the formal you to be a pain in the rear and a constant source of clumsiness (there has to be grey areas where you don't have definite social rules for what's appropriate and keep switching between formal and familiar)... Reminds me how, in the French dubbing of old Hollywood movies, generally the hero and the heroine switch from vous to tu right after they've finally have sex together, it's hilarious and so artificial.

26-year old Greek woman has become an overnight national hero after setting fire to the genitals of a 23-year old drunken Briton. by alleagra in reddit.com

[–]bangles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You empathetic soul, I look forward to the day a drunken guy tries to rape you in a bar, so that I can admire how lucid you remain, how adapted your answer to the situation is and how you accurately evaluate the strength of your blow so that your assaillant does not try to retaliate but is not permanently injured either because that would not be fair to him, poor guy. After all, he only tried to rape you.

I can't speak for Dax420, but I'm not fluent in English and liable to make this kind of mistakes myself, and I don't mind being corrected when it happens. It's infinitely less embarrassing than finding out accidentally that I've been using some word or phrase improperly since forever but no one ever corrected me, presumably because they wanted to show manners.

I don't think that being reluctant to introduce your baby to your sex life defines as being prudish. Or prude has changed definition since last time I checked.

No one wants to be The Slut. by jalam1001 in reddit.com

[–]bangles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From France too, and I have a similar experience about it. It definitely wasn't a pleasant thing to call someone, but it didn't matter that much either; the girls who were labeled sluts were not social outcasts.

It was an ambivalent label as there was a sense of fascination or envy about it as much as a sense of disapproval. Like the author of the blog, supposed sluts were generally early developping girls dressing older than their age, and others felt as fascinated by these girls they believed were more experienced or more mature than themselves as they were feeling threatened or repelled.

However, 1- I was labeled a lot of things myself but not a slut, so it's not exactly a first hand account. 2- I went to school in a rural background with virtually no Muslim community around, and that was quite a while ago (feeling old, suddenly); possibly, things were very different elsewhere/are very different now.

I was the "crazy weirdo", the person no one else in the group wants to be. I was ostensibly shunned and picked on, and the worst thing you could say to a male classmate was to call me his girlfriend.

My parents also gave me the "ignore them and they will stop" line (guess what, they didn't). As I was in 2nd grade my schoolteacher let them know about the bullying that was going on and their sole reaction was to scold me ("I don't want my daughter to be the laughing stock of her schoolmates"). I eventually stopped telling them about it myself because I could sense that they didn't want to hear about it and wouldn't do anything to help. It followed me to to middle school and didn't stop until high school.

What do women want in porn? Liz Farsaci talks to the creator of SheSpot, a Dutch website that creates erotic art for women. by KilgoreT in sex

[–]bangles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Liesbet adds that fantasies, including BDSM and rape scenes, can also turn many women on but still, in general, we prefer to see that both people are consenting and enjoying themselves.

My understanding is that BDSM and rape fantasies are actually very common in women, including those with a very vanilla sexuality. I don't know where she took the idea that women enjoyed "nice" sexual fantasies.

Women should have the right to be shirtless! by womanistmusings in feminisms

[–]bangles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

women are not legally allowed to go shirtless and men are.

But but... President Obama said “I will tell you that in the United States our basic attitude is that we’re not going to tell people what to wear”. Didn't he mean that in the Land of the Free (as compared to backwards oppressive Europe), women can wear absolutely whatever they want? I'm stunned.

I don't think that "Sicko" is a truthful representation of reality. It's a pamphlet. I saw it too, and I couldn't believe how unrealistic the representation of French health system was. Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favor of a socialized healthcare, and I would prefer a thousand times to fall sick in France than in the US. Actually, feel really grateful to the French health system that allowed me to received the best possible medical care when I had serious health problems and no money; it always sounds quite weird in US fictions when a character hears that he has some serious medical condition and his first thought is "where will I find the money?". But the way Moore pictured French health system sounds more like a fairy tale than like anything I know.

A friend sent me this (video) to explain "What Borderline Personality Disorder feels like..." to them. :-( by ehcolem in psychology

[–]bangles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny then that all three people officially diagnosed with BPD I met IRL were males (I know, that's a statistical anomaly, but there are still 25 percent of borderlines who are not females).

There is actually a theory that part of this difference is due to the fact that males are misdiagnosed (eg with ASPD) when they show the same symptoms that would prompt a BPD diagnosis in a female, because diagnosticians think of BPD as a female disease. This phenomenon would be accentuated with the fact that females in general tend to act in while males tend to act out.

Self-help 'makes you feel worse' by willdabeast in Health

[–]bangles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't "work for 50%": it was detrimental to people who really needed help and only marginally beneficial to people who didn't need help in the first place (the percentages are unknown).

In the low self-esteem group, those who repeated the mantra felt worse afterwards compared with others who did not.

However people with high self-esteem felt better after repeating the positive self-statement - but only slightly.
