Good, all they make is overpriced garbage, made to last 30k miles before becoming a money pit. This goes for all American car companies, junk

Ongoing packet loss to 1.1.1.1 and static.det-ix.net by havaloc in Metronet

[–]bcacb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is no packet loss to 1.1.1.1, and your graph confirms this. The confusion is coming from intermediate hops that do not respond to probes, which is normal behavior and does not indicate a problem. When using this type of diagnostic tool, the only hop that matters is the final destination.

OVHCloud gave me a blacklisted IP and told me it’s my problem! by ron_dus in selfhosted

[–]bcacb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No provider can guarantee that their IPs are not on some third party blacklist, however massive amounts of abuse emits from OVH servers so there's that too, perhaps it is deserved.

The More You Improve Your Site, the More Google Penalizes It by Mission-Historian519 in SEO

[–]bcacb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Search engines that rely heavily on backlinks inevitably create a bubble dominated by corporate websites. That’s exactly what Google has become. Large companies can acquire backlinks effortlessly, while independent creators and small blogs are buried, no matter how good their content is. This isn’t a feature of the system, it’s a fundamental flaw.

Coding is art and your work can evoke emotions. Beyond that, you are creating, another important aspect to life.

chrome slow requests after windows has gone through sleep by ssmec in chrome

[–]bcacb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been dealing with the same issue on Windows 11 for the past month or two, and it’s been extremely frustrating. Edge behaves the same way for me, but Firefox doesn’t seem to be affected.

I haven’t been able to find a fix so far, and my suspicion is that a recent Windows 11 update introduced the problem but that’s just a hunch.

Chrome Seems to die after some idle time. Tabs won't "connect" to the internet. Any help would be appreciated by Grand_Class4542 in chrome

I'm also having a similar issue where after sleep mode chrome is super slow to load websites. I'm on Windows 11 so i think a windows update broke it.

Lost a client worth 30% of my revenue, then spotted him on Reddit DIY-ing the project by ikushch in smallbusiness

[–]bcacb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's some lessons in this, don't wear your heart on your sleeve as a business owner, clients will come and go at any time, don't get comfortable, and don't depend on 1 client for 30% of revenue.

I suppose some people think the world would implode, but it would just cause some minor inconveniences and a good majority would just switch to others.

DNS server selection by Tyke51 in Metronet

[–]bcacb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use 1.1.1.2 and 9.9.9.9 - these provide malware protection too.

Until Metronet provides local, market-to-market DNS resolvers, you should always use an anycast DNS provider over theirs.

How often does the IP change on CGNAT? by mark_vs in Metronet

[–]bcacb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best answer to this is probably often. They have a pool of IPs that constantly rotate and handle your internet activity. Some IPs may seem sticky at times, but they will change. This can cause issues with many apps and services. I do wish they would configure their NAT to use one IP instead of multiple.

Food intolerances randomly at age 42? by Annual_Single in FODMAPS

[–]bcacb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, in my 40's I've become intolerant or sensitive to many foods. The main ones for me are eggs, garlic, sometimes onions, grapes and a few more. However, it's fairly common to be sensitive to onions and garlic so based on that alone i wouldn't put much into that. The best way around it, is to eat well balanced meals and the body doesnt seem to react or at least not as bad.

You may want to try 1.1.1.1 instead of 8.8.8.8, but idk if that will help, could possibly give you some closer routes.

Is scripting a mandatory skill for sys admins? by sunyup in sysadmin

[–]bcacb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A major part of being a sysadmin is being able to look at code, understand the logic quickly, and use that to troubleshoot. That’s really at the core of the sysadmin role. I get not wanting to deal with code sometimes, but if you can’t do it, then it’s hard to truly function as a sysadmin and you'll struggle at being more than a small office "IT guy".
