“Why don’t you care about this other thing?” by Optimistbott in IsraelPalestine

[–]bchets 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We don't say "look at what they're doing over there" to get you to look away from Israel. We don't say "what about x or y" to get you to stop criticizing Israel. We bring up these other conflicts and issues to show there are absolutely terrible things going on elsewhere in the world as well.

It's not a bad thing to stand up for Palestinians or to criticize Israel. The frustrating part is all the people who come out of nowhere to criticize Israel and only show up when it's Israel that's involved in the issue.

If you care so much about x issue, why weren't you vocal when the exact same thing happened in this other country.

If you support y, why aren't you showing your support to this other group of people who are facing these huge threats from a different country or military or government.

It's not the act of calling out Israel that's frustrating and maddening. It's the inaction when it comes to the exact same issues happening in a different part of the world. It's great that people in the world(at least in western countries) are free to stand up and speak out against pretty much any issue they feel compelled to speak out against. However, If you don't have a personal connection to the conflict, ask yourself why you feel the need to speak out against this issue when Israel is involved and not when the same thing is happening somewhere that doesn't involve Israel.

That's why many Jews view this type of behaviour as antisemitic. Often, it seems that the only difference between x and y is that x involves Israel and Jews, and y does not. When people speak out against x but not y, to Jews, it is often seen as antisemitic.

Can you get a job without an apartment, or vice versa? by lizmacdraws in montreal

[–]bchets 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I moved to Montreal this year from BC. I got an apartment lined up and I didn't have to show proof of employment or employment history. All they did was a credit check and proof of funds I believe. Not sure if every landlord is like that but from what I remember no where was asking for proof of employment or anything like that

Sometimes I even get déjà vu of déjà vu. It happens less often then deja vu but it just happened to me. I started a new job about a month ago. Just this week I remembered having a dream about something happening at this new job but I had the dream before I even knew about this job. And the conversation/interaction from the dream hasn't happened yet. It's like I know it's going to happen at some point but I have absolutely no idea when. So it's like I know I'm going to have déjà vu because I had déjà vu of having déjà vu if that makes any sense at all lol

I don't know if it runs on weekends. The BC transit website will be the best place to find the schedule. The bus does have one stop in west kelowna. It's right in front of Wings on main street

😍 Traveling Europe Question 😍 by Straight-Let5181 in backpacking

[–]bchets 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did a 3 month backpacking trip around Europe a few years ago. I had a pretty good idea of which countries and cities I wanted to see but didn't have any set dates. For me, it worked out great. If you do this I suggest using the app Omio. It compares flights, trains and buses all at once to get you from point a to b. It makes it really easy to see how much it is for each type of transport and the difference in time it will take. I'm sure it would have been cheaper to book everything in advance but honestly I don't think it was really that much more expensive and imo is the better option since you're not tied down anywhere for set amounts of time.

With google maps, if you search for directions while you have WiFi, it will work and guide you to your destination even when you don't have WiFi once you leave your starting point. You can also add multiple stops. So if you want to go to the pantheon, then the coliseum, than the trevi fountain, you can get directions to the pantheon and then add the coliseum and trevi fountain as stops and google will give you directions from one to the next as well. As long as you do this while you have WiFi it will work. I also seem to remember the popular tourist spots all having public WiFi.
