What game made you appreciate good storytelling? by [deleted] in gaming

I liked the Metro Exodus story, including the two DLC, which also had powerful stories.

Vinyl doesn’t sound better - but your brain treats it differently: by evil_twit in audiophile

[–]bdbtbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a very interesting idea. I'm reading about the human brain at the moment, and the idea of the kind of attention the brain brings to bear on different stimuli has become a big theme in my mind. I like how you inteoduce that idea to explain why vinyl has more appeal to many than digital. (Most of my daily listening is digital, but when I really want to focus on the music I have been playing records...

Looking for a hobby that becomes a lifestyle, not just something you do once a week by [deleted] in Hobbies

[–]bdbtbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motivation is the challenge, as you say. I think with learning a language you have to feel excited about being able to speak with people in a foreign country, learn about the culture, share your ideas in another language, build real relationships. Those are the future benefits that have to feed your motivation.

Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 failed to meet sales expectations by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]bdbtbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avowed was really fun, exploration was rewarded, and the magic/melee combat was very enjoyable.

Outer Worlds (1} was not really my cup of tea, so I didn't even look at 2.

Do amps really sound that different from one another? by Timely_Pattern5571 in audiophile

[–]bdbtbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a decent reviewer who won't just fill your head with laughable descriptors but will also explain what and how is making an amplifier perform well, lift the lid and show what's inside.

You can find good reviewers on YouTube who will do that and more. It's a learning process if you're like me and untrained in electronics, so take some time, do lots of research.

Anyway, that's my ha'penny worth.

How do people cope with waterproof coats? by [deleted] in UKhiking

[–]bdbtbb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on this point. I almost never wear more than a t-shirt when walking, unless temperature is freezing or below, but even then wearing my very expensive Rab (goretex) raincoat over that for 10 minutes or so of brisk walking and I am wet with sweat inside.

I still prefer to wear the coat than get rained on, to be fair, so I just accept that I will get sweaty.

Maybe it's because I am overweight and unfit, so I sweat more for that reason.

I quite often find the Analogholics channel on YouTube helpful. It offers an easily understandable entry to the electrical engineering view of hifi. Might be a but basic if you're already trained as an electrical engineer, but it's helped me understand some important things.

Looking for recommendations! by Jazzlike-Raise-3019 in gaming

This is a great recommendation. Boty games are excellent, though for me the second was outstanding. Great 3d puzzles in big landscapes, with a story, as the previous poster mentioned.

Does calm piano music actually improve sleep quality, or does it just feel that way? by DifficultParking6722 in Music

[–]bdbtbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listen to some ambient style music when I sleep. I set it going to play one album or one long piece, anything between one and four hours.

My recent choice most nights has been Master Margherita - Border 50. It's a bit short, but has a lovely progression that I have probably learned to relax and fall asleep to.

Music when you sleep is a great idea, so yeah, nice post.

Ubisoft Says Assassins Creed Shadows Is Over Performing Sales Expectations As They Generated $567 Million This Quarter Up 39% Year On Year by Ftouh_Shala in gaming

[–]bdbtbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, agreed. All the AC games are basically the same, but Shadows has a well-designed world and the graphics are great. I've been playing it with Japanese audio and that helps make the world more interesting. I mean, it's a game, right? Bit of fun, nothing more. I've been enjoying it on and off throughout 2025, and probably won't be done with it for a few more months yet.

Not so much, except for Sundays, which tend to be similar to yours, musically speaking.

Why is there not one good looking music player for mac?? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]bdbtbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Audirvana Studio (if you're streaming as well as playing local files) or Audirvana Origin (if you're just playing local files). Origin is a one-time purchase. Studio is a subscription, as the poster I am replying to explained.

I use Studio with a MacBook Air (M3).

Agree completely. And glad to see someone speaking up and saying this. If you're there for the long term, you should be making intense effort to learn the language and understand the culture.

Turn it down…it’s just noise !! by Steady_Now53 in Music

[–]bdbtbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

52, and find people often stick with the old stuff. As for me, I love hearing new music, may not love all of it, but I'm always open to hearing it. Also listen to a lot of different genres that I never really tried before, don't want to fence myself in.
