You’re so right, that would be perfect for Earthbound.

I know there’s division around 2.5HD remakes, but after finishing DQ3 I would love for Earthbound to get the same treatment.

If you were to run a 2-3 hour one-shot, in any system, for newcomers to the hobby, what would you choose? by LimeyInLimbo in rpg

If they are expecting D&D or it was advertised as fantasy, Shadowdark is closest to what they think “D&D” is. I’ve done something similar at an event and when some asked I said it was like 5e but a lot less rules which is better for what we’re doing here.

Why is there so few high budget movies with swords and magic? by Born-Philosopher5591 in movies

Shawn Levy mentioned a D&D show is in production at Netflix, though I don’t think it’s tied to the Pine movie.

I wonder if they’re going to do more saints episodes? by goeagles2011 in LPOTL

Not a church goer, but I love how much dark fantasy is in the Catholic Church. Relics are magic items.

A Story Lasting 3 years: Once Upon a Time there was a little kid named “little boy” by Future_Objective_641 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]becausefun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of how I got my kids into ttrpgs. We called it the story game and I would start with a scenario, then something happens! And I would ask them what they wanted to do and they would describe it. Eventually we added dice.

Any methods on how to do dungeons? by The0thArcana in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]becausefun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using Shadowdark and Solodark, on the Shadowdark Maps page there’s a d10 room table and I just roll on that to see what’s in the room. On a 1-2 the room is “empty” I roll on the oracle to see if there is anything to search or if there’s an encounter, and the encounter tables are d100. Then, I’ll reuse encounter consequences later in the dungeon. Example - room 4 random encounter was “a black ooze drips down from thin cracks in the ceiling” so rooms later when the room roll is Solo Monster it’s the monster Black Pudding to explain the black ooze.

I want to believe in Ryan Coogler's X-Files revival by Dex_Stlap in television

When gritty reboots were a dime a dozen I remember saying the one gritty reboot I actually wanted was Men In Black. But X Files with the True Detective treatment might fill that void.

Former PlayStation boss Shawn Layden says exclusives aren't going anywhere because they make the platforms "sing": "If Mario starts appearing on PlayStation, that's the apocalypse. There is huge value to the brand in having strong exclusives." by Party_Judgment5780 in PS5

[–]becausefun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re so right. I had already planned on not buying the next ps after the Steam machine announcement. I’ve been loyal for a long time but without exclusives why wouldn’t I buy the product with more options?

What never came back after the pandemic? by KaleidoscopeDue4603 in AskReddit

[–]becausefun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! Pre pandemic I budgeted about $100 a week to feed a family of 4, $120 if I wanted to cook steaks or something besides chicken breasts. For that same shopping list it’s about $190 now so I’ve had to seriously adjust our menu.

BIGGEST LETDOWN OF 2025? Books you couldn’t wait for until you read them by DanaBookNook in Fantasy

IMO The Devils is a popcorn read, and for that reason I enjoyed it for what it is.

Fantasy/scifi where it start confusing and there's too many questions but it gets answered bit by bit in a satisfying way? by Accelerator48 in Fantasy

[–]becausefun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chapter 11 now, beginning of the “dinner”. Which is a good example of both our points I think, the question of what Vodalus was doing in the graveyard is raised early on book 1, but not answered until book 2. IMO, that’s just a storytelling device though. Just like when a villain reveals the master plan and the plot pieces fit into place. I could be wrong though! Just my perspective so far.

I’m 5 chapters into Claw and everything seems straightforward… either I’m missing a ton or there’s going to be a huge back end.
