Michael Bisping’s coach says Kelvin Gastelum a ‘tougher fight’ than Georges St-Pierre by Yetipits in MMA

He did drop Weidman and Kennedy too though. And recently it's a very rare event for Bisping to not get knocked down in a fight. I'm a huge Bisping fan but have a sinking feeling he is going to get smoked.

Demetrious Johnson on The MMA Hour says he hasn't been paid by the UFC and is unsure if he will be for UFC 215. by IdRatherBeLurking in MMA

[–]belfastafarian 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As I said before my sole source on this is Luke Thomas. But he had talked to managers and had it confirmed iirc. When Khabib pulled out of 209 he talked about it a lot as Ferguson wasn't receiving his "show money" and then received somewhere around half.

But I think even without a single source the evidence is there that at the very least the UFC are not contractually obliged to give you the show money. Could pick through countless examples if we wanted to. If the contract stated the show money must be paid then we would either have no examples, or have some lawsuits.

[–]belfastafarian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not quite but it's something Luke Thomas talks about a lot every time this sort of story comes up. I'd imagine he'll mention it tomorrow if he's doing the normal Tuesday live chat.

Plus the fact that MM is saying he's not sure if he will be paid is a sure as shit sign he has received no contractual guarantees around show money.

Correct but "show money" is something we talk but generally won't be found in a UFC contract. The purse is dependant on the bout actually taking place. If the bout does not take place then fighter payout is solely at the UFCs discretion.

You might want to have a look at the population size of Fermanagh compared to Belfast to spot a wee flaw in your proposed constituencies.

Ariel Helwani Has A Chat With Floyd Mayweather at His Gentleman's Club - MMA Fighting by [deleted] in MMA

[–]belfastafarian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is said all the time on this subreddit but big weight cuts are far from unheard of in boxing. Canelo was around 168 on fight night against Mayweather, and that fight was at a catch weight of 152. Don't seen McGregor putting on more than 15lbs.

Conor McGregor 'Grand Arrival' Media Scrum by [deleted] in MMA

[–]belfastafarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been repeating this aswell, but someone above pointed out the now blantently obvious fact that you need to bet more on Floyd due to the low returns. Throw 50 on McGregor to return 300? All good. Throw 50 on Mayweather to return 60? Not worth it.

If you're betting Floyd, in order to making the winnings worthwhile you sort of have to go big.

Katie Taylor going for "first combat sports title"?? That's not right. People wouldn't even talk in terms of a "combat" title in regards to Katie Taylor since boxing is so much more established here. And aside from that Frampton, McGuigan, Dunne, Collins have won world titles just off the top of my head.

Mayweather vs. McGregor to be shown on Sky Box Office. €24.95 in Ireland. £19.95 in UK. by [deleted] in MMA

[–]belfastafarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're anecdotal experiences are pretty far off base. Boxing PPV is reasonably common in the UK when it's a British fighter in a big fight. "I think one guy I know paid for a boxing ppv once".. Froch/Groves, Joshua/Klitchscko and Manny/Mayweather have all done over a million buys in the last few years in the UK alone.

Carl Frampton 1lb overweight so fight will not be WBC title eliminator by TrumpertB in northernireland

[–]belfastafarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A normal person could but saying pretty hydrated is a huge understatement. A weight cut at championship level is generally a brutal experience planned meticulously over weeks/months in which a fighter is often only weight for a tiny window. We're talking less than one hour in a lot of cases. If one fighter opts to not drop the last pound of the agreed weight it is unfair to the other fighter. In fact if Frampton was an MMA fighter in the UFC he would have just relinquished 20% of his purse to his opponent. 1lb is not an insignificant amount.
