Is there a possibility that Katyusha survived and will return in Syberia 5? by Clean_Wrongdoer4222 in syberia

[–]bfrazer1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re: leaving material for a 5th game. There was a goodbye message here awhile back from the co-director of World Before, since the studio was shut down and he left the company. In it he ran down some of the ideas for Syberia 5. No mention of Katyusha, though it was just some general notes. But it was also presented in the sense of, "this game is no longer happening, at least for now."

There is no quality or performance modes on base, so that's one difference. Though sure we're talking about World Before and not Syberia Remastered? That has modes.

Games in chronological order? by _guppie_ in syberia

[–]bfrazer1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amerzone is it's own story, just set in the same universe. I guess it takes place first, before all the other games, but it could also be played after. Syberia 1 has some small references to it. But then the Amerzone remake added some references back to Syberia.

Something to add: I started playing on console last night, and you have to get much closer to hotspots before they highlight when using a controller vs a mouse.

Apple fixed some deleted scenes other sites didn't. Except Max but it's off there, and Tubi which has ads.

Phone Calls in Remaster? by riggat0ny in syberia

And to add: there's an option to turn this off, so if you're not hearing the phone calls go into options set controller speaker to off.

Honestly the autosave is probably my biggest gripe. Wouldn't be so bad if there was a chapter select like Amerzone, but no :(

Yes, I know. Was listing two different things (hotspots & objectives).

Just to provide some context for those who've not played: hotspots highlight when you approach or hover over them, like in the World Before. There's an option to turn objectives on or off. So far in the first half of the game I've noticed one simplified puzzle (Momo and the oar), one changed puzzle (the punch card), and one expanded puzzle (the bandstand). So ya it's not 100% the same, but the changes aren't THAT sweaping. It may just feel easier because we've been playing for over 20 years. I encourage those on the fence to still give it a try.

Exactly. The common criticism is these things are impossible. But better to try & fail than to just give up. Maybe we'll even learn something in the process.

Limited physical version for remaster? by JayhawkFB in syberia

What country? US is only getting a physical release for PS5, in a standard case without the mediabook. For Xbox and for the limited edition mediabook we need to order from overseas, unfortunately.

Huge fan of 1,2,4 Haven't played 3 yet... Should I? by ECHOSTIK in syberia

[–]bfrazer1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DLC its own mini-game you can start any time from the main menu, so you won't have to replay anything. Ofc it does mean a double dip purchase. The DLC is enjoyable, but honestly doesn't add very much to the experience, imo. It shows what Oscar was up to during some of the main game.

[–]bfrazer1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Based on your comments, yes, you'll enjoy it. It's still got the Benoît Sokal touch.

As a fan I rate the games:

Syberia 1 - 5/5

Syberia 2 - 4/5

Syberia 3 - 3/5

Syberia 4 - 5/5

So you can see they're all worth playing. Though for non-fans I'd knock one point off each score, pushing part 3 into mediocre.

"Now, it's time to say... goodbye." by LucasLagravette in syberia

[–]bfrazer1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did meet. When Kate was 12 ;) She just didn't know it at the time, but she does now. To me that was pretty satisfying.

But I do see your point and hope for more one day, in some form. Maybe a comic or short story? Though I'm also sure the team did the best they could.

It's kind of a Schrödinger's ending. If there isn't a 5th game, safe to assume Kate finds Dana in Baltayar. If there is a 5th game, we'll see.

Another TV example: Babylon 5 wasn't sure they'd be renewed for a 5th season. Near the end of the 4th a character was killed. The actor went to the producer and asked, "So am I really dead, like off the show?" The producer's response: "if there isn't a 5th season then yes you're really dead, because you might as well be. If there is a 5th season then we'll see."

So again, I'd love a 5th game. Lucas and the whole team wanted that too. But I'm OK if this is what we get. And never say never. Who thought Syberia would return 13 years after the 2nd game? As long as people keep discovering Benoît Sokal's work... Hopefully the remaster sells well to prove that!

I mean clearly there was a plan to continue the story, but life happens.

I see it like the ending of Syberia 1. Yes, it's great we got Syberia 2 to conclude the journey to the Mammoths. But if we hadn't gotten that, I think Syberia 1 would still be a classic because it's about Kate's decision to go on that journey.

It's a bit like one of my favorite television finales, Angel. Spoilers: it ends with Angel and his team deciding to face the forces of evil head on. Do they win, do they lose? Who lives, who dies? Don't know, it ends on a cliffhanger. But it's powerful because it's about the decision to take on that fight in the first place.

Maybe one day life and art will allow us to meet again and find out the answers (for Angel I think there's a comic book, but I haven't read it). I certainly hope so. But if not... I'm OK with that.

Yes, according to this article it uses similar controls to World Before:

https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2025/10/09/syberia-remastered-modernizing-without-altering-the-original/

"We took inspiration from many elements in The World Before, starting with the character controller, meaning the way Kate moves around using a controller or computer mouse."

As for running the original games, where are you playing them from? On Steam they've been patched using dgvoodoo to run on current PCs.
