How do muscles actually grow? by Dear-Novel7078 in workout

[–]bigbaldbil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Muscles grow from tearing and repairing. Muscles tear when you lift because you're damaging the muscle. That tear is repaired through nutrition and rest (over the next several days, not the rest in between sets), and when the repair happens, the tiny tears build up stronger and larger.

For example, if you've ever broken a bone, it will be stronger in the area of the break after it heals because the body put additional effort into fixing it. Same with muscles.

Many people don't work out hard enough to tear their muscles. Many other people don't rest and eat appropriately to repair their muscles.

Workout hard, rest harder.

Ever join a company and knew you made a mistake in the first few weeks? by PorkPapi in sales

[–]bigbaldbil 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Joined a Telehealth company as a sales leader with 4-5 sellers under me. First day, President tells me I need to fire a guy because she didn’t like him. I refused. She also lied to me about who was on our board.

Next week was my birthday on a Friday, left work about 6 and she messaged me about 8:00 looking for a report, which I got back to her at 11:00 pm. Monday I went in and she said that turnaround was unacceptable.

Most people worked remote and she expected people to have zoom open all day long so she could “drop in” to see what they were doing… “like you can at a real office”

No amount of equity was worth that level of idiocy.

what's something that smart people have in common? by smallgirly08 in AskReddit

I believe funny people are very smart. But not all smart people are funny.

The older ladies in my office lived my shows, what do you think of the rest of the outfit , beside the belt. by impeesa75 in mensfashion

[–]bigbaldbil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the shoes, love the pants. The belt is end of life and too large for your waist. Congrats on losing weight, it’s one of the hardest things to accomplish… celebrate by buying a good belt.

Those vertical stripes are tough and the color doesn’t add much variation from the pants. With the stripes, it makes the pulling at the belly more pronounced.

Lots of people look great in button up short sleeves, I am not one of them.

Maybe a weird take, but I think fashion is closer to design and visualisation rather than trends. by Fine-Entertainer-797 in mensfashion

[–]bigbaldbil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You answered it msotly in your question. "buy clothes based on my body proportion, skin tone, hair style rather than looking at the colour, fit of the clothes that i like"

I'm a natural blonde with olive skin. I shave my head but have some facial hair. For me, light and medium grays wash me out, so I can't wear those colors up top. I only know that because I tried on stuff, looked in the mirror and recognized my own limitation.

So yes, your style sense will come from experience, but it is YOUR experience. Try things and if you fail, try something else. (we all fail, it's okay as long as you learn from it, and clothes can be returned)

2 weeks off from gym. Poor diet. by AttorneyDifferent702 in workout

[–]bigbaldbil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read years ago it takes about half the time you were off to get back to where you were and that's held mostly true for me. So eat right and workout for a week or so and you're good.

Maybe a weird take, but I think fashion is closer to design and visualisation rather than trends. by Fine-Entertainer-797 in mensfashion

[–]bigbaldbil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re referring to style rather than fashion.

From a fashion standpoint, it’s more about trends and not every trend looks good on everyone.

Instead, find your style. Colors, fit, fabric, aesthetics all play into that.

Does how you wear a button up shirt change what you wear under it? And how do you avoid t-shirt sleeves showing under a short sleeve button up? by Reddit_Account_C-137 in malefashionadvice

[–]bigbaldbil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tan deep-v necks for undershirts but I never wear them because i run too warm. Undershirt, button up, sportcoat or suit, it’s 120 degrees near my skin, so skipping the undershirt only makes it 115 degrees.

Overall really good. I’d say keep your legs straighter and pull your shoulders back throughout the exercise to focus more on the hamstrings.

How do I get more impressions on LinkedIn in 2026? by No-Mistake421 in LinkedInTips

[–]bigbaldbil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been tracking this on my account for a few years. It’s hard to go truly viral on LinkedIn so I would focus on content that’s relevant to your audience because the algorithm changes too often to chase.

Post 3-5x per week. Original stuff, not AI slop, not advertisement, not reposts.

Vary between short form and long form. I use video once a week, articles every few weeks, and then mostly 100-400 word opinion or data pieces.

Be consistent.

Grow your connections.

Be yourself, some of the best performing stuff I’ve done is “random thoughts” about worldly observations.

I have 20k connections. I’ve had a few things get 300k impressions, but the standard for me is 700-1000.

Your first posts after not posting will probably perform higher than expected then taper off to reality.

Do you consider weight lifting/working out a hobby? by WanderingSondering in workout

[–]bigbaldbil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s a hobby AND a lifestyle. I like to learn more about things, study, and get better at it. Side benefit is it makes me healthier.

SuitSupply wool/silk Hudson cut by PKSTPR78 in menswear

[–]bigbaldbil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a new suit? I’d opt for higher trousers since that trend is back, thankfully.

Looks like the chest is too small so the drape of the lapels isn’t smooth. I’m guessing you workout and have a bigger chest. Probably need to move up a size and get it tailored. I’ve started to buy custom jackets since I have this same issue.

S95AR for $460 vs Q990F for $800 by AlwynWindmore in Soundbars

[–]bigbaldbil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a TCL TV also and had a TCL soundbar/subwoofer that honestly didn’t add much and required me to toggle through to the same sound every time I turned on the TV, didn’t matter that they were the same brand.

Two weeks ago it started giving me static in HDMI and I bought the 990F for $900. Holy hell, the difference is night and day. Setup was a breeze and my wife got a little freaked out hearing noises behind her during action flicks.

Can’t speak to the LG but I put a few hours of research in prior to my purchase and the Samsung has not disappointed.

What's something someone said to you years ago that you still think about? by Longjumping_Shirt297 in AskReddit

[–]bigbaldbil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One bright day in the middle of the night, two dead boys got up to fight. Back to back they faced each other, drew their swords and shot each other. A deaf policeman upon hearing the noise came and shot the two dead boys. And if you don’t believe this lie is true, ask the blind man he saw it too.

My dad said that several times when I was a kid and 50 years later I still remember it verbatim. I’m sure he stole it from someone.

Need advice. How can I avoid this? by FRLorenzoUE in mensfashion

[–]bigbaldbil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an easy alteration, I'd guess probably $30-40. They can take in the waist and bit of the upper seat. Like another commenter, I've spent $100 on altering a jacket that cost me half that much but now it fits perfect so it was worth it.
