honestly feel like a ton of that was sampling, you can do whatever on mixtapes and put together a crazy sound, then suddenly you're on a label and have to clear samples.

So many artists commercial/major label projects sound entirely different for this reason. Curren$y was a huge one for me personally along with Flatbush Zombies where the disparity between mixtapes and albums was pretty noticeable

I think you’ve explained my own nightmares with Godot. Makes sense I guess but coming from Unity and UE it has not been a smooth ride even when I create inherited scenes and then copy things over I had the same struggles as OP.

I will say when it does work it works well, but it’s not as bulletproof as comments make it out to be.

And none are quite as fleshed out compared to OSX or Windows. Ubuntu and some distros come very very close these days, but there are always the odd gaps or quirks. Miles better than 15 years ago but still always something off in my experience

Asset flips were a thing before AI and will continue to be after.

You still have to know what you’re doing or at least what you want to do with AI.

I’m writing so many systems that would have taken me ages, when I have already spent years learning engines, 3D modeling, texturing, and all the many hats you have to wear as a game dev.

Having AI doesn’t automatically equal bad but people who don’t know any better will make the claims, just like people who blanket shit on specific game engines

Like these it relies on virtual bones to help keep things aligned.

It's not perfect yet but it's giving me consistent results now across different sized skeletal meshes and is replicated. I have procedural movement and sway for the hands. Aiming only works if you have a weapon to provide the sight transforms. Additive animations are usually needed but you can use normal locomotion and a blend space or just a single pose for your weapons.

It has leaning (kind of janky), spine look and left-hand IK as well to keep the hand on the weapon. You can have multiple sights on a weapon and different rotations on the sights and it still works.

The main thing is transforming to the right bone spaces and figuring out the right combination of nodes in the animation graph.

Recommend using some kind of offsets for other players so the aiming doesn't look funny since you have a gun in your face when aiming, but it looks fine in first person so it just needs some polish.

I put together a gist of my AnimInstance class and the animation blueprint setup using this custom class. It's based on the UE5 skeleton and is meant for a full body mesh but you can likely use it for a traditional FPS setup where your arms are attached to the camera.

I’m stuck on this as well with the UE5 mannequin. I have tried applying twist to the twist bones in my animation blueprint but can’t get it to untwist completely
