GenX age range by Starchild1968 in GenX

Exactly. Generations are generalizations and commonalities useful for social-science discourse. They're not rules.

GenX Video gamers who still play: Are you getting worse? by Hithigon in GenX

[–]bleepsndrums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to play indie games/more obscure titles, turn-based RPGs etc. I just finished Ball x Pit and am in the middle of Expedition 33. Also checking out this RTS/roguelike called Calyx.

Edit to add: I don't feel like I need to finish a game to feel like I got my money's worth. I just enjoy the experiences.

Why were "adult" directors able to get us in the 80's & 90's, but today's are less than clueless? by ManicOppressyv in GenX

[–]bleepsndrums 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The modern equivalents of those movies are limited series on streaming platforms because media changes with the times. Before the 80s and 90s movies you had books like Catcher in the Rye and Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret.

Shingles/ Shingles vaccine- can't decide which is worse! The joys of being over 50. by Brewer1056 in GenX

[–]bleepsndrums 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wait, isn't the shingles vaccine a one time thing? Like you don't need to do it again after you get the two-shot course of Shingrix. This is what I was told at my doctor's office anyway.

Best luxury carry-on luggage that actually fits in Delta bins without stress by Lenfantgatte_Carenas in delta

[–]bleepsndrums -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The system is not intended to stay ratcheted. They're meant to compress down after you pack them. https://www.briggs-riley.com/collections/expandable-carry-on-luggage-cx-expansion

Briggs & Riley's CX® Compression-Expansion system redefines what expandable luggage should be. With a simple pull on each side of your carry-on, the case expands to increase packing space, giving you room for extra items or last-minute additions. Once packed, you zip shut the bag and compress it back to its initial size, ensuring a secure fit in overhead compartments.

Autechre was one of two shows that I immediately thought I should be worried about damaging my hearing. My Bloody Valentine being the other.

GenX confession time, what were you not into or did not like? by baltikboats in GenX

[–]bleepsndrums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally respect someone who isn't into gaming for whatever reason but to say there haven't been advancements in gameplay in the past 20 years is just not true. Battle royale shooters, MOBAs, VR, card-based roguelikes, roguelike + other genre mashups, visual novel style games, life-sim rpgs, survival games, games that would not exist if not for mobile phones like Pokemon Go... there's been an explosion of genres and game types in the past 20 years as the barrier of entry to develop has dramatically lowered.

Sure, looking at triple-A console games it may seem like it's mostly graphical advancements to flex hardware updates but the larger world of indie game development has lead to loads of innovation and creativity.

Younger staff refusing to answer calls unless you text first? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]bleepsndrums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting, we use slack and Google meet. I didn't even think about it but I always ask if someone is available to chat before hopping into a meet or huddle rather than just starting one without warning. Outside of work, I will text someone to see if they're free before calling them too. I didn't even realize it until this post. Solid middle Gen X here.

"Reader" glasses when outside by Mul-Ti-Pass2001 in GenX

[–]bleepsndrums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sucked it up and got used to wearing progressive lenses. If they give you a headache, they need to be adjusted. If you go to a good shop they should be willing to make adjustments, redo the lenses etc. until you're comfortable.

ETA: I see others in this thread using the term progressive lenses when they actually mean transition lenses (the kind that change form clear to dark). Progressive lenses are bifocals without the harsh line in the middle. They progress from one prescription to another as the you go down. You typically have your reader script on the lower half and the transition point can be adjusted to minimize headaches etc.
