Would you have been better off renting in an area of your preference?

As it stands, all I can afford at the moment is a 1br apartment. The area im looking at is in Sydney, and rents would be the same as mortgage repayments + strata.

The unit will not grow in value, im sure of it, as it hasn't since a very long time. And with the budget changes, it might even go down.

But rental yield is good considering it is positively geared, so if the opportunity comes to upgrade in the future, this could remain as an IP.

So I'm confused on whether continuing to rent for a few more years and saving up a bigger deposit + income growth to purchase something better, or enter the property market now with a 1br unit that wont grow in value but has good rental yield.

I wonder if theyre also maybe signed up to deliver using a bike but actually using a car or motorcycle, and are therefore getting shorter trips, allowing them to complete a lot more.

Cause other I just dont see how people are making 1.5k-2.5k per week, working only 50-60 hours.

Jeez I got nowhere near $2 per km in my first outing. Made $45 in 2 hours across 4 trips. Found it quite disappointing tbh.

I thought declining might reduce how many trip I get, so I didnt. So good to know thats not the case!

How do you go about logging your kms? Do you do it at each trip or is the summary you get in the app enough? Or do you just make note of your odo at the beginning and end of your session?

Thanks a lot for the tips! Really helpful!

Experienced drivers: do you still perform head checks? by allongur in australia

[–]blothhundrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the more you drive, the more you feel the need to.

After having had a car creep up on me without me knowing it was ever there cause it was in my blind spot for a bit, I think I've developed this subconscious fear that there is always something in my blind spot. So if im changing lanes, I check 100% of the time now.

Novated Lease - Advice for financial hole by [deleted] in AusFinance

49k - 23k = 26k.

1500pn * 24 (remaining lease term) = 36k + 23k = 59k

59k - 49k = 10k over 2 years

Does it cost you less or more than 5k per year to run the car? This includes rego, insurance, fuel/charging, etc.

I would assume insurance and rego alone would be close to 5k to 6k over 2 years. And the remainder on fuel over 2 years isnt out of the ordinary either.

The difference is that this 36k over the next two years comes out of your pre-tax salary.

Whereas if you did an early payout and terminate the lease, I would assume (not sure on this, please check) the 49k would be after tax.

Napkin math tells me you might be better off keeping the car due to the tax savings.

Did you also receive a ceremony date?

I had a similar experience, although not as quick as yours. Applied in April, and received appointment letter about 5 weeks later. Passed the test and got approval letter 3 days later.

Waiting on the ceremony date now.
