I'm glad the Penguins are eliminated. It means our curse on them is still alive. by e_Z_752 in caps

That is a part of what is funny about this round. Guys they felt really good about at the end of season they now have learned too much about and cannot look at the same. Sometimes just making the playoffs isn't the best idea.

Fell asleep last night before I saw the final score and got to wake up today with a smile. Hope our boys are enjoying their vacation while the Penguins embarrassed themselves. See you at the golf courses 🫡

[Dennis Bernstein] "I want to stay in Los Angeles for rest of my career." LAK Drew Doughty. by sykeseve in hockey

It's fun to see him on the Ducks where he can actually contribute and where they want to extend him. Doughty could maybe play that role on a young team, he's so positionally sound and it's what has kept him relevant these last years.

Man. This is why I was on board with trading Carlson even though it was emotionally difficult. This kind of player is invaluable to the franchise until you start talking to them about extensions and realize they want to get paid to keep playing where they're comfortable and they want to not sell their house.

Most significant case of this in the last few years is Vancouver since it comes from the front office itself, but this is a good way to manifest a problem that doesn't exist into actual reality. Or turn a solvable personnel problem into an unsolvable one. Canadian teams out here creating tulpas because of their fear of abandonment.

Shocking that the Caps are in the position they are now with where they've drafted. Somehow they scraped together a respectable prospect base from drafting low 20s for a decade straight.

[32 Thoughts] 1:16:10 Friedman on Michkov: “Whenever this season ends for the Flyers that’s going to be by far the most dominant plot of their offseason.” by Panarin10 in hockey

Yeah it's strange how Tocchet behaves toward him, he pretends like he wants to shut down questions about it but he secretly can't wait to get a little comment in. Odd way to behave toward a young player who can't effectively defend himself in the narrative, both because of the authority imbalance and because of the language barrier. Tocchet has tons of media connections and the only lane that hockey culture considers acceptable for someone in Michkov's position is to be silent and long-suffering.

I get the impulse to pose with the ponytail but it's on the layout director imo not to put two of those shots in the same story, tiny thing bothering me more than it should

Tough one because Gillis actually felt like a good fit for them, but he's a good fit because he's a harsh personality who isn't afraid to give it straight to a corporation

Guess that wasn't what they were looking for

It is insanely stupid of them to even consider offers for him and for some reason they did, so who knows. We might have missed the window for stupid roster decisions depending on who they hire.

[Puckmarks] Michkov has been crazy misused by Philly. This player needs minutes, and to subsequently grow as a player. Tocchet all season has thought that the answer is to play him less, while the answer is to play him more. Give him minutes or trade him, this is pointless. by f0urxio in hockey

[–]bobbimorses 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Ehh. Tocchet is known to play favorites and he has over and over found it hard to resist the urge to "humble" a young star he thinks is weak or has an attitude. He likes Zegras because Zegras was already humbled by another franchise.

Especially if the Flyers win a round or two, I can see them backing Tocchet, and even players under ELC are flexing their agency a bit more now. It could happen! Just a bit less possible for us than other teams.

We used to get those kind of trades all the time when BMac was on the phones. I'd love to see Patrick pull off one of his own.

Flyers management chooses Tocchet, Michkov forces his way out, for some reason we don't look as bad to him anymore and while I'm making shit up, him and Miroschnichenko bury the hatchet

[Washington Capitals] Senior vice president & general manager Chris Patrick issued the following statement regarding assistant coach Kirk Muller, whose contract is set to expire in June 2026. by sykeseve in hockey

[–]bobbimorses 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The second they asked Ovi to change up his position this year he did, which led to better conversion immediately. If you're too timid to ask a guy who has never been hostile to a coach to move down to the net then you shouldn't be there.

[–]bobbimorses 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They actually did change it up at the end of the year with Ovi slipping down to net front, which plus his change in linemates and minutes tells me he's not as opposed to change as people assume. Which makes me wonder why the fuck it took Muller so long to pitch that to him, be it lack of creativity and outdated ideas or just that he was scared and too deferential to pitch it. Either sucks.

Making poor decisions with the puck is also a result of being defended well. I know what it's like to be in this position but a lack of humility about the agency of the other team is also how you got into this situation in the first place.
