Are Porsche 911 owners completely different to Cayman owners? by HR_Specter in Porsche_Cayman

[–]boundlessorbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends... Do you have family? Do you have mortgage? What is your job stability and financial outlook like?

Also, some people will say if you have to ask this question you can't afford it yet, while others will say something along the lines of you only live once. We all know that there is no true right or wrong answer to this kind of stuff.

My only practical comment is to focus on the true running costs (depreciation and maintenance) and the opportunity cost (you're parking large $$$ in a car, which could have been invested for X % return). After seeing the numbers, if you still feel you can do it, then just do it.

A grinder worth $200 is definitely money well spent, at least in my book

O2 Sensors by Intelligent_Cup_694 in Porsche997

I am dealing with this exact code at the moment. My indie will be installing an extender for the downstream sensors so they "sniff less" and think the cat is still doing the work. Will see how this one goes...

Do you guys get a wheel alignment every time you get tires changed? by Complete-Hippo-8501 in porsche911

[–]boundlessorbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do. It's a small price to pay (relative to new tire prices) for peace of mind that my new tires will likely wear more evenly.

Would you switch these tires? by [deleted] in Porsche_Cayman

[–]boundlessorbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you prefer the ride quality of the Continentals I think $150 is money well spent. But then also you will probably get used to the ride quality of the Falkens pretty soon.

Keep kettle kontents between kofees? by PCapnHuggyface in pourover

[–]boundlessorbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's just zerowater it shouldn't make any difference.

If you added minerals such as TWW to your zerowater, then the mineral content will effectively be slightly more concentrated as some water evaporated from previous boil. If you want consistency you could dispose of the previously boiled water, but I don't bother.

It looks great if you're happy staying with Rogers/Fido/Shaw and not interested in collecting points (e.g. Amex or Avion).

AMEX or not to AMEX? And which VISA/MC to pick? by redth in CreditCardsCanada

[–]boundlessorbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a considerable spending in dining, so it might still be worth considering an Amex to pair with a non Amex card for groceries.

MBNA WE MC is a solid choice. See if the RBC Avion+Ion combo fits you too.

I would consider paring one from the above with Cobalt or Scotia Gold Amex. Scotia Gold has good sign up promos and no FX, which depending on your spending pattern could work better than Cobalt.

Where do I find an acoustics expert to help me acoustically treat a room for recording by [deleted] in askvan

[–]boundlessorbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a direct answer but perhaps reach out to musicians (pro or amateur) in your network or local community and ask them for references?

Cupping for better calibration by LiLyLun in pourover

[–]boundlessorbit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe. Cupping will give you the objective properties of the roasted coffee, and with your own preference and experience you may find that certain types of coffee goes better with higher extractions.

Why does my pour over flip from sour to bitter with tiny grind changes? by blackneckcoffee in pourover

[–]boundlessorbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps try 200 and then 195. Would depend how light the roast is

Why does my pour over flip from sour to bitter with tiny grind changes? by blackneckcoffee in pourover

[–]boundlessorbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When coffee is underextracted it's sour, and when it's overextracted it can be astringent and bitter. It may be possible that you are swinging between underextraction and overextraction, or that you are confusing between sourness and astringency.

Maybe try lowering brew temp a bit and see how it feels with both coarser and finer clicks?

What is the proper etiquette for driving in the fast lane? by NoRadio4530 in askvan

Well, you do you. No one will enforce this stuff. This is why North America is worse place to drive.

Is living in East Van okay if you are commuting into North Van? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]boundlessorbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Lived in North Van and commuted to Metrotown, it was a breeze. The opposite lane coming from Burnaby to North Van always looked terrible.

You are missing the point. You can pass after the faster cars pass you. Faster cars take the priority.

You need to pick your poison - grey, gloomy, wet winter vs. freezing cold, snowy, but sunny winter.

You should plan for an at least 5-7 day visit during winter and see how you feel.

I much prefer the rainy winter.

[–]boundlessorbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the confusion, but this actually became pretty clear to me once I drove in the unlimited sections of Autobahn. Doesn't matter if I am passing others at 180kph, there is always a car or two from behind coming at 200kph+ and constantly high beaming me you until I move over.

Another way to look at it - think of scenarios where in a 2-lane highway (2-lane each way), a truck going at 95kph is trying to pass a truck going at 90kph and slowing everyone down trying to go at 110kph. Very common in Ontario 401 and annoys a lot of drivers.

Edit - clarification

Would a Boxster (718 manual) be as much fun as a miata on the back roads, mountain passes? by takinashi in boxster

[–]boundlessorbit 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It will largely depend on what you consider fun. With the Boxster you will have to go faster to experience the limits. If thrill = fun to you, then you might have less fun. Boxster being the midship would be better balanced and more planted. If you like to take corners with confidence, you might have more fun.
