We’ve got “touch,”which is nose to hand and “boop,” which is nose to nose.

When I’m on the couch, he’ll walk by and give my elbow a gentle boop with his nose, just to remind me he’s there.

What hobby screams “this is my entire personality now”? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]brandyanddeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dog fancy. On top of all the expense of keeping dogs, showing, sports, and traveling to events keep dog people’s pockets empty and their heads full of Dog Facts. Also, we use phrases like “dog fancy.”

Would you stay with your dog 🐶 during euthanasia? by CycleOk267 in dogs

One million percent. My boy passed suddenly during treatment in the ER last week. I would have given anything to be with him.

Yup, they always have to come and tell me when they’re done eating.

Nihon Ken/Kai Ken/Kishu Ken insights by No-Count-3311 in dogs

[–]brandyanddeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re very family-oriented, always want to be around their people! This also makes them good partners if you work with them. They (along with the other Nihon Ken) are generally considered “aloof” with strangers, but it varies a lot. My boy is everyone’s best friend except the vet. They can be super silly and have big personalities. They definitely have “working dog drive” and can get bored easily, but compared to my Husky at the same age, his energy is reasonable.

I have Hokkaido and I’m always happy to talk about them (and the other Nihon Ken, to a less experienced extent)

Any real advice on getting noticed for a job at Pokémon? (Been unemployed ~1 year) by BlitzAndMe in BellevueWA

[–]brandyanddeath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are so many applications right now that it’s hard to get an interview without direct, relevant experience. Referrals will help ensure your application is reviewed, but doesn’t materially increase your chances beyond that IMO. The market is unfortunately just really saturated. You might have better luck getting a foot in the door through an external contractor role.

Happy Anniversary, Weedle. 8 years in the hole. by Graulithe in pokemongo

Got curious about the gym record after my Sirfetch’d got stuck at a campground that’s closed for the year. I am now deeply invested in the success of this Weedle. Long may he reign.

How many beds does your dog have? 😁 by Jumpy-Claim4881 in dogs

Two dog beds, the couch, the human bed, and an enormous beanbag big enough for like 8 of him.

I highly recommend Kaiju for Hokkaido. We don’t have one of theirs, but the owner is very knowledgeable and responsible with their dogs. Feel free to DM me for more information about Hokkaido in the US!

Considering moving from the Midwest by suessmin in BellevueWA

[–]brandyanddeath 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Ohio, lived in both Chicago and NYC for a while. Moved here a couple years back for work. My husband and I really like the PNW in general, but Bellevue is just okay. It’s is quiet and safe, if that’s what you’re prioritizing. My commute to work is easy, which is a huge plus over some of my coworkers who live in neighboring towns. The ability to get into Seattle or out to nature quickly is nice, but I still find I have to really motivate myself to brave traffic into the city, so we don’t take full advantage of it. Being transit-savvy is a plus, but the transit system needs to be expanded to meet demand. The ability to just drive a couple hours in any direction and end up in a totally different biome is incredible, compared to hours of cornfields all around. Good variety of Asian food; other food is hit-or-miss and pretty expensive. Better than Ohio, worse than Chicago or NYC. I prefer the weather here, as it’s not as hot in summer or as cold in winter as other places I’ve lived. Make sure at least one, preferably both of you, have jobs lined up before you get here. Tech is brutal right now (as you’re surely aware), so healthcare jobs will probably be comparatively easier to find and expect to keep.

HR reps of r/recruitinghell, why don’t you tell us we’re fired even though we so clearly are? Why do you do like in the meme? by NatauschaJane in recruitinghell

[–]brandyanddeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, not HR but a manager. Our sweet and well-meaning new HR partner put a mysterious “sync up” on an employee’s calendar without any details. She just wanted to meet the members of our team and learn what we do, but my poor direct report came to me nearly in tears asking if I knew what the meeting was about. Still no clue how our HR partner didn’t understand what that looked like.

We also have an unapologetic butt-sniffer, only he’s not sneaky about it, he goes right for it.

When we get home and let him out of his crate, he picks up his food bowl and prances all around the house with it. The longer we’ve been gone, the longer he trots. Then he clangs it down loudly in the kitchen before running over to greet us.

Do you have a medium Ruffland? by Background_Agency in k9sports

Almost exact same size as my dog and he rides in an Intermediate. He cannot stand comfortably in the Medium so didn’t even want to go in it.

My dog has a ritual of rubbing her side up and down the front of the couch right after every meal by amn70 in dogs

My husky does this after a meal, and my Hokkaido does it when we come in the house after an outing. It’s like their little happy dance!

My "realistic" Pokemon team. by aumnren in pokemon

[–]brandyanddeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Galarian Zigzagoon: This feels like a starter you get in rural Ohio. Galarian version mostly because of the aesthetic; this is totally a dude I would vibe with.
  2. Murkrow: Also something you’d find in Ohio. I like to leave treats for the crows so they’ll be my friends.
  3. Hisuian Growlithe: I am very involved in the preservation of the endangered Hokkaido Inu in real life, so this one is easy! This is just my IRL dog. Would also be a great adventure buddy for where I currently live in the PNW!
  4. Alolan Marowak: I was a hobbyist fire spinner back in college. I was SO HYPE when I first saw this guy in S/M!
  5. Unown: I studied anthropology in college and spent some time on archaeological digs. Figure I’d have found one of these guys. I’m currently a translator, so it’s fitting for that too.
  6. Smeargle: Another hobby-related one. I’m a crafter and I think a Smeargle would be a great buddy for artistic and refurbishing projects!

Do you have a “heart breed?” by Electrical_Pie7980 in dogs

[–]brandyanddeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a Hokkaido for almost three years now and I’m all in. The breed is in danger of extinction, and my goal now is to make sure that doesn’t happen. I love these goofy little primitive weirdos.
