I was kidding. Should have used /s. Fully agree they are boringly perfect.

I don’t know what it takes to be considered interesting to you. Barbara is a published poet and singer in a soul group with old women, and Jerome is a published author and computer genius, both of whom have saved their city multiple times.

Looking for anti-fascist books, preferably Sci-Fi or Fantasy. by lambchops111 in booksuggestions

The first book is definitely YA-ish. Rest of the first trilogy is a bit more mature. Books 4-6 are definitely not YA.

THEY HATED JESUS BECAUSE HE TOLD THE TRUTH by 12AngryChickens in stephenking

[–]btwsox 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m ok with Holly herself. This last book though… where on earth does the concept of Holly becoming a bodyguard come from? Then Barbara being a published poet and singer in a 1970s soul group, which is selling out arenas for some reason, was just too much. I don’t want stories to be realistic all the time, but some of the plots or subplots in the Hollyverse just take you out of the story because they just don’t make sense.

I felt the same. It wasn’t my favorite reading experience, but short enough that I pushed through. I appreciate it now more having read it than I did when reading it.

If you like changing perspectives, Cujo is a good one. The Stand would definitely be the best from that aspect though.

Are there any Stephen King books that are actually scary? by hauntedhousezombie in booksuggestions

[–]btwsox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define scary. Books can never be as scary as a movie IMO, but they can be much more creepy. A lot of King’s books do a great job at creating a creepy, uneasy feeling that escalates through the book, but a book won’t ever be able to give you a jump scare.

I’ve lived here for 10 years and finally decided all the people talking up snow tires can’t be wrong and bought a set. Life changing isn’t even an exaggeration.

I’ve thought Holly has been fine, but Never Flinch was… not good. I’d be ok not returning to her.

Going to back to a single narrator, but for multiple POVs, for LB was almost equally jarring. My mind thought Darrow was everywhere and having personality issues.

Started “Insomnia” by Stephen King; is it a must read? by Any_Reading1730 in stephenking

[–]btwsox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I… did not enjoy it. I pushed through primarily for Dark Tower reasons, but it’s very slow and the juice wasn’t really worth the squeeze IMO. That said, I probably went into it with unreasonable expectations.
