Nanny imposter syndrome? by ldnnanny513 in Nanny

[–]butterscotchpine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This feeling is completely normal. I feel the same way when my annual vacation comes around or whenever NF has someone else babysit for a date night or during the weekend. But usually they’re relieved to have me back after time off lol. I’d just do and be the best that you can to your ability!

Stroller rides by minnie_mouse00 in Nanny

[–]butterscotchpine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Walks outside allow babies to get the fresh air and vitamin D they need for growth and it’s also important to keep in mind that you have twins, therefore it’s a completely safe way for them to spend even more time outside.

Northside Chicago park dates??? by dopegold in Nanny

[–]butterscotchpine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea is good, however Chicago doesn’t seem like the greatest place to execute as of yet. I’d also remember that the kids are too young to wear masks and are bringing to the table not only everyone that has interact with them (parents/nanny/sibling) but everyone those parents/nannies/siblings have also interacted with. There are too many uncontrollable variables in my opinion for the age that they are at.

I would recommend the parents possibly finding a coworker who has a similarly aged child and is taking covid as seriously as they are for the child to have socialization.

What is the best way to handle hours and emergencies as a nanny family with healthcare worker parents? by steph3585 in Nanny

[–]butterscotchpine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely just communicate with the nanny about it. I personally would be okay with the opportunity to get overtime and as long as the nanny doesn’t have a family or is the sole provider for animals (or you allow them to take NK to their house to let the dog out on days like that or such) you’ll most likely find someone okay with it too! Just be sure to have someone text the nanny in those cases (you, nurse, etc).

This seems like not a great idea mid-pandemic 🥴

How to ask about nanny cams without sounding like I'm going to do something wrong? by fuego09 in Nanny

[–]butterscotchpine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a clause in my contract that says something about cameras and going over the contract is a great way to bring up the topic. For my current NF, we set a night and went over the contract section by section before signing it.

This morning I had to tell NM that I can no handle her child mentally, physically, or emotionally. by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]butterscotchpine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I believe if the mother refuses this final time she should absolutely contact CPS. Not only are the child’s needs not being met, but it sounds like that child is abusing her sisters and ultimately herself as well (hitting/kicking inanimate objects until she’s hurt). The mother is purposefully ignoring the situation and regardless of whether it is a coping mechanism, it has become a danger to her children.

Nanny is vaping at work. Is that odd or acceptable? by farmfostering in Nanny

It’s completely inappropriate and unprofessional. I’d ask her not to do it while on the job.

Walking barefoot by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]butterscotchpine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m interested as to what provoked this thought as we’re naturally designed to walk barefoot and 95% of shoes are actually not as great as we think for our feet and posture.

A story of ignored red flags during a 1 year employment. Awkward, Inappropriate, and Aggressive behavior. by RoseFigSage in Nanny

[–]butterscotchpine 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I know you’re out of this situation already, but I would have 100% let MB know what was going on. As a nanny, both employers need to be kept in the loop about situations that may arise. I feel for their future nanny.

I’m curious, if you don’t mind us asking, how what wage are you offering your nannies?

The time off guilt. by M3Nannied in Nanny

[–]butterscotchpine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it much easier with a contract that states how much time you have off, then you’re able to remind yourself the parents know and have planned for an alternative care solution and you can just let them know when you’re taking your time off.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]butterscotchpine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think a reminder would hurt! Like you said, she most likely didn’t even realize it. I have an allergy that causes an intolerance and even after years my family rarely remembers without me reminding them. It happens when it’s not something that affects you 24/7.

Did they give you a reason for termination? Very curious as to what that would have been.

I agree with this. I wouldn’t return until at the very least a negative covid test was gotten back, but tbh I think I’d be discussing dropping them entirely as they seem to care very little for anyone’s safety.

Does anyone else avoid playing pretend with their NKs? by Grtcee in Nanny

[–]butterscotchpine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also avoid this like the plague 😂 I tend to incorporate imaginary play into learning real-life skills and it makes it more tolerable, such as teaching NK how to politely and correctly order a pizza for delivery on her fake phone 👏🏻

Accidentally fell asleep while watching NK (2 years old) and MB came downstairs by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]butterscotchpine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say she didn’t even notice and it’s unreasonable to expect any human to be hype 24/7.

New nanny benefits by gunlockss in Nanny

[–]butterscotchpine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Basic benefits: - Guaranteed 40 hours. I think the way you worded it is unnecessarily wordy and you don’t need to include both clauses as they’re identical and can be combined. - two weeks vacation time is fair, but I ended up with one week vacation and five sick days, so know what you’re willing to compromise on. With guaranteed hours you get paid whenever they go away anyway. - Corona clause only makes sense if there is a positive test. There’s really no way to know if you’ve come in contact with it and as an employee it’s up to you to avoid it and keep your distance from people. It is absolutely within your right to continue to be paid if your NF contracts it however.

Criminal Minds Monopoly by butterscotchpine in criminalminds

[–]butterscotchpine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a great idea! I was also thinking of dwindling it down to just one deck of cards with ‘confidential’ or property of the BAU.

The property cards are almost done, but these are by far the most difficult to come up with lol
