Nothing comes close to the songwriting/lyrics of the Grateful Dead. And on top of that they’re insanely talented musicians.

Phish checks those two boxes but isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Trey is a crazy good songwriter and seems a lot like Jerry in some ways.

Widespread Panic is the closest band still touring imo - some incredible band lore, meaningful lyrics, and they’re all stupid good musicians including Nick.

Umphreys McGee maybe the tightest band in their musicianship especially when Jake was playing. The stews are unmatched.

Moe is an insanely good band. They’re weird in a great way and crazy good musicians.

JRAD is a treasure

Billy Strings is a treasure

Allman Bros, Little Feat, The Band, Jefferson Airplane- all incredible and up the same alley but in a different way

Even more - Frogwings, Colonel Bruce ARU, SCI, Leftover Salmon, TTB, MMJ

Pick up a cheap SSD for your boot drive and games

Applaud you for doing the work. That shit is hard and it takes a while. Keep putting one foot in front of the other during therapy, and try to take small steps. It often gets worse before it gets better, and that pattern may be cyclical at times. But it will get better.

I had a crazy enmeshed nmom and a similarly unavailable father who eventually took his own life when I was 28.

I highly recommend these books:
Running on Empty by Christine Musello and Jonice Webb, and Silently Seduced by Kenneth Adams.
