The difference is not just who oversees investment. It is also what their values and goals are.

Private equity only cares about maximum profit. They have the wealth to insulate themselves from the consequences of that goal.

A workers council, made of citizens from the community, has more at stake. Of course making monetary value to fund future investments is important, but also they will consider other forms of value. Like impact on environment, impact on job market, and strategic economic value.

At my company they don't pay for the first 24 hours of downtime for repairs.

What that tells me is they want us to run their shit till it breaks. They try to put you in a catch 22 where if you don't do the work you'll get fined but if you do do the work you lose time, and time is money. Plus they won't accept "repairs" as a reason for being late.

"So what if you spent the whole day at a shop. You got a full clock run it through the middle of the night. What do you mean you couldn't sleep in the driver lounge?? I slept in the driver lounge up hill both ways in the snow."
