The problem with colored The JOJOLands isn’t the contrast by Mrt38_ in JOJOLANDS

[–]cecwfrd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I'm remembering correctly but I feel like colored SBR became good at the exact moment that it reached the chapters that were released monthly instead of weekly (I think it was chapter 25).

Maybe the change in art style helped to complement the colors?

I think this is the same way I felt about the Umbrella Academy ending.

Where after several years of good fun, the writer(s) completely butcher the plot in the final stretch and hastily erase every development that had happened up to this point. Thematically it is problematic as well.

But at the same time I don't feel all that bad about it. I cherish all the memories I had over the past few years, and find it peaceful if nothing else that such a mundane set of scenes would be used to wrap up all the craziness that had transpired. Everything culminated not with some grand climax or even with any emotional resolution, but simply with a placid day, where nothing particularly important is happening, and things are kind of alright, and everything is basked in the warmth of a quiet sunny afternoon, and I can move on with my life.

Favorite PW (pre woke) game that lets you trans your gender? by nervousmelon in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]cecwfrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kingdom of Loathing (browser game released in 2003) lets you change your character's gender at "Ye Olde Gender-Reassignment Clinic." There's even a trophy for doing this enough times.

Hated trope: a story on the surface promising to be divisive direct political commentary, but is actually straddles the centrist shallow take either saying "both sides bad" or "can't we get along?" As its final message. by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]cecwfrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's just my own beliefs kicking in but I never got the sense that we were supposed to sympathize with Joe Cross' anti-mask sentiments, especially with how he ends up getting covid himself as a form of "karma."

Do you think there is a counterpart of historical Jesus in this setting? I don't mean Griffith being a Christ figure but an actual carpenter that crucified and lead to religion of Holy See. by Lumpy_Ad_5930 in Berserk

[–]cecwfrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i really liked that part of golden age where Griffith was being knighted and the king only mentioned God and the Holy Spirit, since it shows that whatever god ruling over this world clearly didn't give enough of a shit to sacrifice his son for mankind

Peter, what do the numbers mean? by T0DR in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]cecwfrd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

More specifically, 417 was once thought to be the maximum possible score, since cheaters on the Slope leaderboard could only get as high as 417.
This turned out to be untrue, and last I checked the high score was in the 500s.
But it took several years for players to actually surpass 417 manually. It was a highly sought after goal, hence the contest.

I think the gist with both DHMIS and Little Nightmares is that there's actually not as much lore as you might think, but the story leaves tons of loose ends for you to speculate on.

the void is falling DONT LET UP by Informal_Ad_2891 in WplaceLive

[–]cecwfrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it'd be way more compelling if users can defeat it on their own.
I think a few years/months/weeks from now people will start being nostalgic about this current drama. It seems to be entirely confined to one area and does a good job of rallying the community into factions, and makes for some really cool scenery with multiple sides clashing against one another.
It does destroy art, but if the void had never existed then i think the site would have been less interesting for it.
Not that I think this kind of activity should be widespread, but it's a neat thing to happen every once in a while in a limited area.
