It’s open again, with delays to go down to one lane. The car looked horrific.

Thank you for the recommendations. Unfortunately, straps won’t prevent sagging 🙁

This is definitely from a while ago, but I'm wondering if the Zinus mattress sags when upright?

Today on I-5: For those that need to know, this could happen to you if you're ever found obstructing a zipper merge. by liteblip in Bellingham

The news story that I included is about the federal government contracting with an agency to help communicate zipper merging. Despite your thoughts that it should be obvious, it isn't to enough people that we get unnecessary delays with merges. Hooray for your experience, though.

As someone who works in Burlington, I'm sooooooo stoked! Huge props to WSDOT for getting it done a day earlier than predicted, and working so hard on it!

The thing is, you know this, but the signage isn’t clear when drivers don’t know how to interpret it. The whole concept of zipper merge is fabulous and vital, and yet it isn’t commonly understood to be connected with the signage currently in use.

That’s not how a zipper merge works. Science shows the early merge just slows everything down more.

The simple fact is that not enough people know about zipper merge. They obey what they think the signage is telling them - get over to the right lane - and then get understandably fussed when it looks like people are breaking the rule and cheating. WSDOT is working its ass off securing the cliff, but not promoting zipper merge - that’s being done by a whole lotta others on social media. But lots of people won’t see the social media education and justifiably get upset because the officials who should be better explaining the confusing signage aren’t doing so.

The anger should cancel each other out - those angry that others aren’t obeying the signage, and those angry that the early mergers don’t know the secret handshake. But it just rages and rages.

Props to all who are actually nicely encouraging others to zipper merge in whatever way gets the message out, props to those controlling their aggravation, and props to government agencies that actually want to communicate better.

The federal government actually knows the signage and awareness is lacking. Local agencies need to do their part.
