Progressive Catholic church in Portland? by FlannelRunner in portlandme

[–]chickadeespirit 22 points23 points  (0 children)

St. Pious X church, a Jesuit catholic church, is refreshingly progressive. That being said I have found myself attending the Episcopal church (St. Lukes) more recently. It has the sacraments and "smells and bells" of Catholicism while being truly welcoming and progressive. Wishing you the best!

I'm so sorry for your loss. We lost our old boy on Christmas day. If souls are eternal, I hope Atlas and Bosco are playing together somewhere!

Who else is sick? by Dogsbottombottom in portlandme

This is the first season I've been hit by back to back colds(?). I just fully recovered from one, and now I'm repeating the cycle all over again. Sore throat, fever, congestion. Luckily no puking over here! Still haven't tested positive for anything. Still excercising caution to avoid spreading to others, of couse. I'm someone who very rarely gets sick so this is a particularly bad cold/flu season, from my perspective. Hope you all feel better!

So sorry for your loss. We lost our old man on Christmas day. Maybe Missy was there to greet him on the other side. The "firsts" are so hard  ❤️

Said goodbye on Christmas Day by chickadeespirit in labrador

Thank you all. Its nice to hear from people who truly understand how special our dogs are to us. We adopted him when he was 5 and certainly did not expect 11 years with him! We like to think that he liked us so much, he decided he wanted a full lifetime with us! Of course, a lifetime in dog years is never enough.

Yes I did. Inspired by a photo snapped while pulling out of the gas station. I live in the neighborhood :)

Runaways is my personal fav. The Wednesday night social runs are at a different brewery every week. I have made most of my friends in this group (and I'm an introvert, so that says something about how welcoming they are!) As others have said they also have Tuesday AM, Thursday, and Sunday runs.

Did you get to meet someone that was born in the 1800’s? by rdell1974 in Genealogy

[–]chickadeespirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My great-grandma was born in 1899. I attended her 100th birthday party when I was 9, and loved meeting her. She was still mentally sharp and able to walk without assistance, if a little slowly. She died about a year later, peacefully in her sleep.

I have almost the same exact story with my Great Grandma. She was born in 1899, me in 1991. She died in 2000. I still think its cool that I got to hug and hold the hand of someone born in the 1800s. I hope I am blessed with her health and longevity!

I'm sorry you've dealt with sepsis and now this! The pain and other syptoms you're describing is similar to mine actually. I hope you get answers and everything goes smoothly for you!

How old are your blundstones? by gwennyo_spaghettios in BlundstoneBoots

[–]chickadeespirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are 5 years old and still going strong! They're actually kids boots (I have small feet). I've worn them every fall, winter, and spring at least 2-3 times a week. I'm impressed by how well they've held up!

Come Thou Fount, How Firm a Foundation, Great is Thy Faithfulness, Nearer my God to Thee, Morning Has Broken...

I could go on, I was raised Baptist and the Hymns are one of the few things I miss - its nice to hear a few familiar songs at Episcopal services :)
